Hot off the presses, we hear from Warseer and a couple of other sources on what may be in store for next summer.
Sources say GW is planning a "Codex: Orbital Assault" or something along those lines. It will focus on operations involving deep-striking, and other forms of high speed orbital to surface insertion (something oddly lacking in detail in Apocalypse).
That may also tie into some other rumors we've been hearing about potential releases for next summer that would make sense such as:
- Plastic Drop pods
- Plastic Thunderhawk (this one won't die down)
- Plastic IG Stormtroopers
- Plastic Valkyrie (this one seems the most unlikely)
- Ork Stormboys
The rules are supposed to not focus exclusively on specific races, but could give all new uses to things such as Swooping Hawks, Assault Marines, Gargoyles, and the like.
It is supposed to be a focused campaign with specific protagonists and antagonists who are currently unknown.
-What do you guys think of it?

Guard might have some difficulty without plastic Elysians...
Though plastic Storm Troopers with little gravchutes could be cool.

I like the idea of the book and any new set of rules that adds more playability and versatility to the game means more fun for me.
I could also use a couple boxes of plastic stormtroopers for some of my conversion projects.
Plastic Stormies? Yes frakking please!
I have mixed feelings about this idea. Whilst I think that it could be fun, and a great expansion to the game that almost all of the races will benefit from, what about some of the races that are still languishing with poorly written 3rd Ed codices. Deamon Hunters and Witch Hunters come to mind especially since they weren't given decent errata to work with 4th Ed. Dark Eldar players are also waiting desperately.
For those with well written codices or proper errata, then this is a boon, but for those without, well this just extends the waiting period.
Eltnot.
..deep-striking Seraphim ... mmmmmm
... actually this is much like the sisers list that came out a few years ago in 2nd edition, I think it was called the Strike Force list or something..
... deep-striking sisters squads ... divine-guidance orgy... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Plastic stormtroopers would be fantastic! As for the codex... *shrug* I don't play nearly enough as it is. I don't know if I'd ever use it.
I have seen this book and have seen the 3 ups of the models. There is new plastic drop pods, valkyries and stormtroopers; but there is absolutely no new plastic thunderhawks whatsoever no matter what.
Happy to hear only specific races will be involved. We don't need another contrived mess like Medusa V.
the much awaited platic drop pod will be very welcomed im guesing to alot of players. anyone want to speculate a price? plastic baneblade is about a third of the price of a FW baneblade, and the FW drop po dis what? 90.00? naybe we will see drop pods for 35.00.
im anxious to see more in depth deep strike rules, maybe evn the trygon!
It's a little early to guess on a price, but if it is the same size as teh FW one, that would use more plastic/sprues than the current rhino. Maybe somewhere between the price of a Rhino and Landraider?
They may even come in an apoc style box set at a reduced price. 3 for $100? $150?
Slightly unhappy with this rumour, mostly due to the fact I had been hoping for something much more 'confined space ship boarding' rather than, lets get them to buy more buckets of stuff.
True, it follows on closely from Apocalypse, (I am in Oz, it doesn't hit here till next month) But it just doesn't excite me like Apocalypse did.
I am still excited about apocalypse, but orbital insertions? It feels like a vehicle to promote more vehicle kits rather than something to get people gaming.
More plastic troops is good, but I would prefer to see some time spent on codex for every army, and perhaps a different type of combat style, like a super detailed kill team.
Oh well. Still waiting patiently for Space Hulk version 3...
A chance to finally field an Ordo Hereticus Strike Force?
Can you hear the choir of cherubim singing Halleluyah!
Wow once again a suppliment with new Imperial models and Jack for Xenos players! Sure new models sound nice, but when one finds oneself always on the outside looking, its a bit frustraiting.
More rules for Forgeworld models which I can't afford are useless to me, but plastic thunderhawks, storm-troopers, and valkeries would remedy that and go nicely in my inquisition force.
Yay! plastic stormies! I heard the Valkyrie rumour some tme ago, I heard they made one, but didn't release it. Soooooo.....this would seem the time! Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease let there be a plastic Valk, pleeeeaaaase....
Superb news!!
I'd heard rumours of a new plastic Valkyrie (i have my sources!), which was unfortunately just after i'd purchased a FW one!
However, i had heard nothing on the plastic Stormtroopers. If these are a cross between the Cadian Shock Troops plastic kits with the style of the Kasrkin, then we're in for a treat...and it now looks likei'll be holding off on doing my Drop Troop detachment (looks like im doing the Armoured Company for the meantime instead!!)
I would like to see a return of the older Stormtroopers and in plastic would be an added bonus.
The old metal figs on the GW classic line are too expensive to be cost effective. And using cadian kaserkin stand in's kind of breaks flow with the rest of my army.
Still they are guaranteed sales if they make a plastic Valkyrie. More so if it's under the bane blade's price range, I would likely pick up 2 sets of Valkyrie & Storm troopers to add to my steel legion list.
Heard directly from a reliable GW Store Manager two weeks ago - Plastic Valkyries to be released in May 2009. Definitely no plastic Thunderhawk in the works either.
