Hi all,
Your daily roundup of rumors is coming right up!
Planetary Empires
First off, from some of our dedicated readers who went to Conflict: Scotland and talked a bit with Jervis and Jes we have word of something called Planetary Empires. This upcoming supplement promises to be Mighty Empires in space, with models for things like Hives, cities, battlefields, and 40k-specific tiles. No word on its timing.
Dark Eldar
You read that right... Dark Eldar! Jervis and Jes mentioned that the work on the Dark Eldar is underway, and the mini-line needs massive reworking. No dates were mentioned but if they actually admitted it, 2009 seems likely.
Space Wolves (courtesy of Warseer's dosadi)
We also have word of the following Codex:Space Wolves updates:
The Codex is into testing
Blood Claws are armed with bolt pistol, ccw, frag, and krak and can take special weapons or powerfist/power weapons. They have Furious Charge instead of berserker charge. Minimum squad size is 10 and they can go as high as 20. WS is now 4 but BS stays at 3.
Grey Hunters are armed like Chaos marines (bolter, bolt pistol, ccw, grenades). No more True Grit, but Counter Charge stays for this unit. They can take an assortment of special weapons or powerfist/power weapons. Squad Leader is a wolf guard with options like a vet sergeant from Codex:Dark Angels.
Jump pack Blood Claws are a separate unit entry now.
Wolf Guard are split into two squad types - terminators and power armour.
Wolf scouts can infiltrate or come on from any table edge.
Long Fangs stay as is. Probably picking up a bolt pistol and ccw in addition to their big guns.
Dreads and ven dreads go down to WS4, but Bjorn is back as a special character. Unknown if they can be HQ units.
~I'm pretty excited about a rework of the Wolves. I always considered their codex to be the strongest and most balanced of the old-style marine variants. If the Black Templars and Dark Angels are anything to go by, I bet the new Space Wolves minis or accessory sprue will be awesome. Bulwark will be dancing a jig around the new year, or shortly thereafter.

Although I don't play any of the above, I'm still happy that the GW is working hard on the new codies. I guess it should be just a matter of time until the Inq armies get a new codex as well.
@Anon.
Ha,
HAHA,
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....
new Inq codex, heh, man thats funny......
Not much what will be new. I think Dreadnoughts all should have WS 5 or at least BS 5 (expirence + tech devices).
I am happy if it really leads to Codex Space Marines, Codex Space Wolves and then Codex Dark Eldar. Buth then the only codex really missing is the Codex Inquisition.
All I want to see is Codex Squats. I've been waiting for so long for
Uh, oh... someone reset the stubby clock.
Is Planetary Empires anything like Planetstrike? I've heard Planetstrike being talked about but I have no idea what it is.
The only other thing I'd like to see is Wolfen as elites choice. Give them rending, furious charge, maybe force them to assault if an enemy is within range, tempered if they have a wolf priest watching over them.
Now I don't want Wolves nerfed down to DA / BA / Codex SM levels (I'm looking to the future here), but I do hope that they get toned down some in the new SW book. Even making them pay 25 points for their powerfists is a start. They shouldn't be restricted to combat squads and all that - Templar and Wolves I think are the ONLY loyalist marines that shouldn't be, IMO - but the power level is just way off with the Norse dudes.
Though with 5th ed. swinging focus towards infantry and especially LARGE infantry squads, I think 20-strong blood claws might be viable for real. Got the "fleet" run to get in there, and the bodies to avoid having fists allocated to death, etc.
Oh, and w00t for Dark Eldar.

The Venerable Dreadnought (HQ) needs to have four attacks base like the rest of the SW HQ's not three as it is now. An Initiative of 5 and be an Independent Character. As it stands it costs 125 points and pays higher prices for all its weapons, it is modeled with a Wolf Pelt, Woolf Tooth Necklace and Wolf Tail Talismans but receives nothing for them.
Well, first off, Wulfen need to get better. They suck as it is, no power weapons, and not fearless like the rest of the army.
But other than that, the list looks good, looking forward to playing a space wolf list.
HOOOOOOWWWWWL!
Go teh Wolves!
Longfangs are unchanged? I fear they will get used as little as the last codex if this is true.
Overly expensive dev squad with no ablative wounds? I'm not seeing the reason behind this.
Overall it doesn't look like the codex is changing too much. Bloodclaws get a few more guys, greyhunters stay about the same.
The big difference will be inthe wargear and special rules (1 HQ for every 750 points and such).
I'll be interested to see where they go from here.
Honestly I like Grey Hunters being like CSMs. I could wish for Long Fangs getting some ablative wounds as the poster above me stated, and perhaps a choice of heavy weapons instead of just one of each.
... and in fifth isn't it rumored that squads can split fire with a Ld check? I guess Fangs not needing a Ld check will be the upside :P

@Jhagadurn
I agree that Wulfen should be in the codex and that they need to be more like BA Death Company but I really doubt this. They just got an Apocolyps formation... much like all the units that got squeezed out of the new codexes.
@Jhagadurn:
You've clearly never faced a Wulfen-based army. They are an AMAZING unit, able to take down damn near anything.
They are fast enough to be pretty much guaranteed a second turn charge, and with their animal rage, don't have too much trouble getting to the backs of tanks and fucking them up. I just hope they leave in fenrisian wolf packs from the 13th Co. codex, as they are my new favorite unit (after pulling numerous land speeders out of the air at adepticon).
Wow, Space Wolf Scouts get to do things that Chaos Chosen can't. I hope the checks and balances match up for this.
First Orks and now Wolves? Wow...I think the next couple of years are going to be all about close combat!
I don't know what to even think that they are going to touch the Dark Eldar. I've played them and loved the fear/confusion they generate in opponents for so long, I don't know if I want to see them gut the fun hidden gems like the Destructor. But at the same time I'd love to see some tweaks to things like Scourges and Mandrakes.
I wonder if this indicates a general shift to the bolter, bolt pistol, close combat weapon, frag and krak grenade layout for all marines. It would certainly be a welcome change, as I find loyalist marines are often a bit like tau in that the actual troops choices, which are now far more important, are a bit of a liability.

I agree with the spirit of your argument, but at the same time I'd dispute that Fire Warriors can be a liability. They're great. However this isn't about Tau, so I'll leave it at that. (:
chaos marines do seem disproportionately better than loyalists right now.
@ Nick,
My point is, that Wulfen need to get better and more elite - right now, they aren't that great. My rough riders took out your whole damn squad of them in one charge. They need a way to protect themselves, or they need to be cheaper and more devastating.
hmmm...dreads to WS 4, so much for being supreme champions reborn to fight on for the emp. Seems kinda odd a wolves dreadnaught would have a reduced WS. I mean, they were most likely awesome HTH combat specialists before they died....oh well..
DE wahoo
(i mean, cmon people, they made them into a damn game with Soulstorm, you honestly think they'd pass up on more marketability if given the chance? This is GW we're talking about, any chance to pull new gamers is a good one to them.)
IMHO, Wulfen aren't going to make into the new codex. If they do they certainly won't be like this:
"as elites choice. Give them rending, furious charge, maybe force them to assault if an enemy is within range, tempered if they have a wolf priest watching over them."
Why the heck would GW do that??!?!? Those are the exact rules as Death Company. Jeez have a little more imagination...
Don't you just love online trolls like me who post anonymous comments like this?
Good to see SW getting a revision, but I'm just terrified they'll make them anything like the new DA/BA/CSM codexes, which are all flaming piles of crap. I wouldn't mind the direction those books are headed in so much if codexes like Orks and Eldar weren't released at the same time and made to be so overpowered it's obscene.
Personally I'll like to see Guard, DE, and the Inquisition be revised, because as they are now they're definitely the most out dated/worse armies out there.
After reading the Space Wolf books im really looking forward to the return of the space vikings
heres hoping for a really good conversion sprue
It sounds like the 13th company will be relegated to the likes of Apoc games. Too bad, I was really hoping to be able to take a 13th company team up with my wolves.
Everything looks good so far, except I don't know why Dreadnoughts would suddenly be less skilled.... especially for a more CC oriented army.
I really hope to see a SW Leman Russ included in the codex, after all the Space Wolves Primarch Leman Russ invented it!
All this stuff could have been wrapped up into a big Marine codex... oh well.
SW are my marine army of choice, and I am glad to see them redone. Few Points.
1) definitely keep the SW Leman Russ; it's a shame if they don't
2) I hope they keep the 1 HQ per 750pts rule; while weird, it fits so well and is so helpful
3) dreds as HQ with WS 5 - even if no weapon skill five, most likely Bjorn will be WS 5 so you could just use him
4) long fangs should be the same but with a points reduction or extra wounds at similar points
5)fixing wolf guard into separate power and terminator armor choice will hopefully bring their points down and give them more options
6) the old and wise rule better stay (I really like going first)
7) no matter the odds should also stay although with the possibility of 20 man marine squads, being outnumbered wouldn't come into play immediately but it should still stay
I really hope to see a SW Leman Russ included in the codex, after all the Space Wolves Primarch Leman Russ invented it!
Better check up on your fluff there chaosgerbil. The Leman Russ is an STC tank. Henceforth it was invented millenia before Russ was born/hatched/cloned/vat growned/ or whatever they want to call it. Imperial Armor Vol. Edition 1 states that original Leman Russ tanks are STC tanks, from what I understand, the tank we know as the Leman Russ was renamed after Leman Russ during the Great Crusade as opposed to discovered/founded with that name.
I stand corrected. Regardless, I hope the LR is in the codex as the Space Wolves have made use of them before, and I like most things that makes a chapter more unique.
Bjorn tFH is a GOD
Fen Wolves are amazing
Iron Prist= total muppet
thralls= waste of time
I'm not too fussed if dreds get ws/bs4 so long as Bjorn is still at 5... but pls change the IP and thralls or scrap them entirely (anyone used them? honestly?)
Also: wth, your Long Fangs have no ablative wounds?? mine do
Unit: Pack leader, 4LF, WGBL with heavy weapon (normally plasma cannon cos of BS5 2 wounds) and 4 fen wolves= 350 point unit with 5 heavy weps hitting 2 units/tanks a turn with wolves to soak up some hits (but needs a cover save to work well) sweet
