Well the time has finally come, the first round of the new FAQs are here. It seems they were heavily influenced by yakface's IGT FAQ, which isn't a bad thing at all. Featuring heavily are Lash of Submission and Veil of Tears, which seem to be almost just as powerful as they have always seemed to be.

Check them out!

I'm glad to see that Monstrous Creatures will still be able to shoot two weapons in 5'th (as I'm hoping GW doesn't release a FAQ that will be outdated in a month by the new Ed).

Quite useful for a change! I really like how they managed to solve all problems/oversights and leave no more room for discussion.

Radium, it's so hard to discern if you're being sarcastic or not! I can't tell with GW players nowadays. I'm just glad the Eldar/CSM players will quite whining about it.

  4. John // May 15, 2008 3:38 PM

Quit whining? GW players? Never!! :P

Interesting - some of the questions seemed self evident to me

  5. GADE // May 15, 2008 3:39 PM

They didnt mentione anythign about tz bikers getting a 2+ inv save from turbo boosting.

I guess they just ignor it, untill its changes to a cover save in 5. ed...?

  6. pendgaft // May 15, 2008 4:03 PM

I'm assuming Tz bikes were left out because they are changing turbo boost to a cover save.

On the whole Monstrous Creatures shooting, if I was a betting man I would say they are still going to be able to shoot two while not moving (hence the FAQ will not be outdated), but when they move I think/hope it will be a different story.

  7. Swede // May 15, 2008 4:19 PM

Yeah you might be right pendgaft and I'd be okay with that change as it wouldn't make two different weapons on Wraithlords obsolete.

I'm a cheesy double lash player, myself. I'm a little annoyed that they left lash open to the more abusive uses.

While waiting for the FAQ I refused to benefit from the overly abusive uses, assuming that it would get toned down.

But now the FAQ supports the cheese. I'm trying to resist temptation.

  9. Anonymous // May 15, 2008 5:00 PM

    chees like what?

moving models nearer together to barrage em or what?

  10. Chaosgerbil // May 15, 2008 5:56 PM

    Yay for FAQs.

So Daemon princes with wings move like jump infantry but count as regular infantry? That seems really weird and inconsistent, but oh well.

I can see people crying about that if escalation missions stick around for 5th.

  11. Iron Dragon // May 15, 2008 6:18 PM

I am looking forward to seeing the final version of 5th ed. I wonder how many issues will come up from 5th ed that were not addressed in the FAQ. ie change in cost/description of units.

Being forced to by a second turret weapon on a Falcon that can only be fired while giving up movement protection sucks. It will also make the shuriken cannon upgrade nearly worthless. (wpn goes from defensive to main)

  12. Anonymous // May 15, 2008 8:33 PM

Mkerr, it appears you were wrong earlier in your Lash Tactica when you said that units could be Lashed out of combat. Cale was actually right, apparently. Good to see that this has cleared up whether or not models can move if they start within 1" of an enemy.

That said, it was still a nifty idea, and good to see some FAQs!

They move "like Jump Infantry" but are Monstrous Creatures not regular infantry :-)

I'm surprised that you can Lash a unit twice in one turn as long as they pass their pinning test. With that you can really pull in enemy units and feed them to your close combat troops deep within your own lines where they have no support available... Other than that they ruled it exactly how I've been using it.

  14. Izandral // May 15, 2008 9:02 PM

i'm a bit confused with the answer for ahriman using 2 or 3 powers a turn. The question is clearly about him but the answer seems so general do you think you can use gift of chaos twice with a tzeentch sorcerer now ??

  15. ubermosher // May 15, 2008 9:32 PM

The interesting thing about the Lash clarification is the implied ruling that a pinned unit cannot be lashed... As Nurglitch on Dakka pointed out, factor in the rumored 5th Ed. rule that a unit can voluntarily become pinned. Interesting defense against the Lash.

I'm just wondering why my sisters can't have a rhino if the squad is more then ten girls but Chaos can.

That really doesn't make any form of sense.

  17. Kris // May 16, 2008 12:39 AM

Also note that they approved of (well, allowed anyway) the yo-yo Hawks, as well as Warp Spiders being able to jump after they deep strike. Combine that with Running after deep striking in 5th ed and Spiders suddenly seem hugely mobile.

I also like how they finally resolved RoWard v. RoWit and Shadow in the Warp. Makes sense, and still makes using psychic powers against RoWard extremely dangerous for the T3 psykers, although this too may change in the new 5ed rules.

And I expect that GW write some info about casting spells form inside a vehicle, and i still don`t get may answer. I have only hope that 5th edition change current rules, and they write something about that in rulebook or new faq for it.

Good to see that with the release of Chaos Daemons they've effectively destroyed not only Hordes Of Chaos, but Beasts Of Chaos as well. Good going GW! That has to be a new record.

  20. chenghiz // May 16, 2008 7:03 AM

I like how you can take a cover save against Mind War. Well, it strikes me as amusing, anyway.

  21. k2vsate // May 16, 2008 9:28 AM

"And I expect that GW write some info about casting spells form inside a vehicle, and i still don`t get may answer.

If something is in a vehicle it is not on the table and can do nothing. It is also not scoring. Only by disembarking from a vehicle or using firepoints can you activate models inside. And yes you can use a shooting power from inside a vehicle with a firepoint providing you meet all the other restrictions for firing a weapon.

  22. ubermosher // May 16, 2008 9:49 AM

The leaked PDF for 5th Ed. seems to reverse that. To wit: "If any of the models in the
transport have abilities that function within a
certain range, this range is measured from the
    vehicle’s hull."

  23. Brad // May 16, 2008 11:08 AM

But the leaked PDF is not official yet.

All in all I love FAQs...at very least they tend to clarify things, even when they do some thing I wish they had not. If a game does not evolve it dies.

  24. BrassScorpion // May 16, 2008 12:03 PM

I have to agree with a post above that some of the issues covered by the FAQ are self-evident, but when you look at some of the really abusive questions that appear on some of the online forums looking for ways to circumvent obvious rules, then it's easy to understand why GW included those issues in the FAQs. A number of people seem to think that if the rules don't say you can't do something, then it is allowable even if it directly contradicts what the rules do actually say. A case in point was the issue over Fire Frenzy for Chaos Dreadnoughts. Believe it or not, there were massive posts about this on another online forum a few months ago saying you could avoid Fire Frenzy by firing smoke launchers, even though the rules for Fire Frenzy explicitly state what the Dreadnought must do. This kind of abusive interpretation occurs all the time with some players who seem to feel that anything not forbidden in print is allowable. Imagine how long the rule book would be if it actually stated every possibility that is not allowed for every phase of the game and every model in every Codex. It would be longer than ten copies of the a full unabridged Oxford English Dictionary!

On another note, the new Games Workshop website is now live! However, so many people were checking it out immediately after it went live that it appears the server crashed, so you might have to wait a while to visit or visit again.

The New Bitz Range pages for the US appear on the site. Bitz categories are Conversion Packs, Scenery, Shoulder Pads, Miscellaneous, and Weapons

There's also a promotion to get a limited edition (and really cool) Space Marine miniature and free postage with your first order over $100.

Nice! Not only nothing to do with 40k, but also nothing to do with the topic at hand. And beyond that, absolutely no justification for a baseless statemen. Well done!

I was still able to navigate the site, but I couldn't find this bit.

Do you think you could post a link when you are able to do so? Thanks!

I think there's some huge website revamp coming...

  30. Ianator // May 16, 2008 9:48 PM

Actually, it's already come. It's pretty crazy.

  31. Anonymous // May 17, 2008 1:24 AM

While I like the fact that GW listens to community feedback, taking a fan-made FAQ ruling almost entirely on literal RAW when they have the designers in the same building yields bad results.

    Example.

Embolden allows for a reroll for farseer tests according to the FAQ.

Embolden allows a re-roll of *LEADERSHIP* tests. Psychic tests are a seperate test (like Morale) that uses the Ld stat but isn't an Ld test. Target priority is an Ld test. Psychic tests are not. Somebody dropped the ball on that.

Also, models with Wings are not actual "jump infantry", they merely move like jump infantry.

So throw that winged sorceror into a rhino. It's legal now. Sorry that jump pack has to stay outside however.

Damn! The GW website is all jacked up! What idiot thought to do this to the website? GW is really losing it, I hope they revamp their entire organization soon, otherwise I smell the end...

  33. Anonymous // May 17, 2008 4:10 AM

Its a whole new website and it only went live yesterday. If the designers and IT guys aren't monkeying around with it for at least a week to get it all working I'll be exceedingly surprised and they will be doing fantastically well!

I'd expect uploading the store and article data to it to take significantly longer...

It will most likely be up and down for a while as they need to tweak and change things.

"You're not thinking fourth dimensionally, Marty!"

You can infer future codex changes by looking at similar things that are being updated right now. Essentially, what do SoB and SM bear a striking resemblance to in stats and organization? Oddly enough, Chaos Space Marines! I'd bet you with 100:1 odds that SM Rhinos and the SoB equivalent will be 35 points and come standard with Searchlights and Smoke Launchers, and will be able to be attached to units that exceed their carrying capacity. Just be patient, Kemosabe! Your time for delicious update-ness will come!

Also, I'd be wary about the 5th ed. "voluntary pin" solution to Lash. I'm fairly certain that you have to suffer wounds to voluntarily pin yourself. Careful planning and organization about what shoots first and what Lashes first can get around that problem.

For the life of me, I cannot find the FAQs an the US site anywhere. Thank the gods for Google...

It's quite simple. The Chaos Marines ignore the "Maximum Occupancy" safety sticker. Cause their chaotic like that. ;)
