Hi guys,
Here is a flyer from GW describing the launch-day events surrounding 5th Edition. These events are happening all over the place at participating stores and independant retailers, so give your local FLGS a ring and ask them if they are taking part.

I wish I had a nearby store :-\
Our Battle Bunker in Maryland will be selling the new 40K book at midnight as well as handing out the Gamer's Editions that were pre-ordered. There's also an Iron Painter event that weekend too. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my Gamer's Edition just after midnight!
Yup, saw the flyer last week. My FLGS is doing all of the events. I'll be getting back in to my town at 11:00PM (from vacation) on the 11th, so i'll be able to get my 5th ed book at midnight and hopefully play in a game!!
Uhhh...I got the 'Local Gaming Store' part, but what does the "F" stand for? Too early in the morning to think just yet....

"Favourite" perhaps?
FLGS = Friendly Local Gaming Store
Hmmm. I think I may have just the entry for the 40K vehicle category in the painting competition... Sounds like all shades of fun!
How about "SLGS", as in "Smelly Local Game Store". I shudder to think what a mass of geeks all crammed into one spot at midnight after a long hot summer day might do to my nose.
Smelly Local Gaming Store? Good one, that's how I felt two weeks ago when I was at my first Apocalypse Event. :D
Either way, I'm realy curious how the rule switch is going to work in the middle of a game...
Well.. suddenly there will be a lot of cover saves appearing out of nowhere?
In any case, one of the most important changes between the editions (which units are scoring) doesn't matter much if the game is Apocalypse (which the flyer suggests the game will be).
I play Blood ANgels, so I'm golden anyway.
The F in FLGS is either friendly or favourite.
I have two gaming stores in my town: One, which I frequent, is what I consider to be an FLGS. The other store is simply an LGS, and I don't go to it for a variety of reasons.
We're having a mega-battle at the local battle bunker as well for 3,000pts - just have to ask why they always limit it to such small armies. I thought Apocalypse was for the really big games...
My local GW (in the UK) is doing 40Kake. Basically they've written up rules where you bake a cake (or a squadren of smaller cakes), and depending on size, shape and fillings/toppings you get different weapons, armour values, etc. They fight each other, using the new 40k rules, and the winner keeps both cakes.
can they spell typo?

I get my copy a day earlas couriers don't run on saturdays and i go to a local store, not Games Workshop. WOoooOOOOOOTTTTTTTTT
Played another 5th edition game today, mostly to get familiar with the new rules. They actually work well and are quite fun, it just takes some effort to remember to allocate wounds before rolling any saving throws. This was a constant challenge, but by the end of the game we remembered it most of the time.
I am running a mega-mega-gargantuan-ultra huge battle at my FLGS. We are running 40,000 pts per side. Including my 13,000 worth of Eldar. There are 5 8x4 tables connected and one is a city-fight table (can we say hell in 5th ed) were having all sorts of fun things like a shield generator that can be tunrned off by occupying the building. This allows units to deep strike into the main city where the vital objective is. As far as super-heavies is concerned we are seeing something like:
1 Revenant titan
1 Warhound titan
1 Scorpion super heavy tank
3 Baneblades
3 Hell Hammers
3 fliers
1 Thunderhawk
and almost every single data sheet written. Its going to be mega. I think the only thing Ive heard of that is bigger is the Chicago battle bunker which will be hosting a 400,000 point battle. Damn!
do nearby store's exist ? unbelieveble !!! that's the first time i hear of it ! xD
Another assumption to what FLGS could mean: FLY LORD Game Store!
