Mentor Legion Logo Sheet

Its been too long since BoLS has kicked out a logo sheet, so it was time to tiptoe through my backlog of requests.

I have been noting for a while that GW does a great job of covering the major 1st Founding and select 2nd Founding chapters with their decal sheets. However, there are a number of great looking 2nd and later founding chapters who get a good amount of back-story and have great alternative uniform colors that never have had decals produced for them. In the interest of promoting diversity in the Marine community and encouraging players to branch out beyond the "big 4", I keep knocking out logo sheets for some of these other chapters who I think look great and have no GW decal support.

I've gotten a few requests for the Mentor Legion (really!), with their old school Rogue Trader era original logo so here they are. Here is the link to the PDF file for the decal sheet you can freely pull down and use:

Download Here

The sheet is designed for printout on Decal printer paper which is easily available online. These decals are designed for the CLEAR decal paper. The procedure is as follows:

CLEAR PAPER: If you use the clear decals, the decals need to be applied to a light colored surface to be visible at all. The procedure for applying the "outline only" decals is to apply them to a white surface, and wait till they are fully dried. Then using the outlines as a guide, paint in the darker color around the decal if needed. It is odd, but gets the job done.

Click here for a detailed Custom Decal Tutorial

Size wise, the larger decals towards the top are best used for super heavies/terrain, and move down in size to the large array of Marine Shoulderpad towards the bottom.

In any case, enjoy and I wish you the best in using this set for your forces.

~Please feel free to leave comments if there is a special Marine Chapter you would love to collect, but have no GW decal options, and I will see what I can do.

I've done the Emperor's Warbringers chapter up, got near 300pts. They are a chapter off the gw website. They are in the section with the various painted marines. Loved their name. Would love some logos!

Not marines, but an Adeptus Mechanicus sheet would be awesome. It would definately fill a gap that is unaddressed at the 40k scale.

Heh... you got the decal sheet.... now how about a BoLS take on some rules for the Mentors. Maybe a return of the dreaded Vortex missle from a missle launcher?

Aside from that... Celestial Lions would be cools for a decal sheet.

this will sound realy stupid- but gw never made any iron hand decals! i know its hard to believe but true

could you guys please have a go at them? the iron hands never get any love from gw

I'll be starting a marine army once the Battle for Black Reach set comes out. If the marines in that don't have the modeled Ultramarines symbol i'll be pleased and taking a look at some of the other chapters out there.

Iron Snakes would be nice, it's a real bitch to free hand the symbol for nearly 100 marines plus support >.<

What about Flesh Tearers?

@ Anon 1:26...I think the shift field and targeting web from the early WD would be cooler...

THANK THE EMPEROR YOU HAVE SAVED ME FROM HAVING TO PAINT THEM ON MY 2nd COMPANY

Great stuff! You guys are doing the hobby community a service with these things.

Sweet! Ironically I was just thinking last night about starting a small Mentors force, what are the odds lol. I prefer this badge to the eagle head that they currently have.

More goodness from the BoLS page!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

I know that slowly over the last few months, we've seemed to shift to mostly news and less cool hobby support, but that will be changing.

After the Macharian book comes out (very soon), expect lots more fun hobby stuff as our time really frees up.

Finally, for the newcomers, please look over the logo section in the left hand column. There is already quite a selection of logos there for folks who want to try something new.

@ Mattr - actually once upon a time GW did do an Iron Hands decal - in the original RT decals

@bigred - would you be interested in a scan of an original RT decal sheet, perhaps to either remake it or for refernce (or do the flylords already have that?)

How about the Sons of Medusa? The Iron Hands subsequent founding chapter that gets NO love, EVER!

Evernevermore said...

Little pondering and I thought of two recent chapters that could use decals - Soul Drinkers and Bloor Ravens. You could cater to the RT crowd and do stuff like Rainbow Warriors and Space Sharks too hehe

Your logo sheets are always awsome looking. I was wondering if you are going to do a Flesh Tearers sheet?

Anonymous said...

lets see "the emperors pointy sticks" get some love

Thanks for the cool stuff!

A Soul Drinkers Logo Sheet would be awesome. Chalices (chalici?) of various sizes.

Looks cool. What is that the head of?

If you wouldnt mind, sharing what size do you set each of the increments at. I would love to try mu hand at creating my own and if I knew the sizes that you used it would help. :)

Though they are renegade Marines, Red Corsairs decals would be great, there symbol is hard as heck to paint!

Keep up the good work, you guys rock.

Since the new dexs screw the Flesh Tearers rules (surprised an out of the way chapter even got any to begin with!), I decided I'd just go standard Blood Angels, instead of needing to buy a million flesh tearer shoulder pads.

Anyway, FT decals would be cool but what I really want is a complete Blood Angels one, with all the squad and company markings, including vehicle sized company marks and coloured numbers. The standard sheet has a couple but not all, and not nearly enough of them besides.

I'd really love to see Flesh Tearers, probably the coolest Second Founding out there in my opinion.

ANGRY MARINES!

I'd second the Blood Ravens. Quite a lot of people play them, and they have a wicked symbol, but a hard one to free hand. Plus, I love the Great Plains/Pacific Northwest indigenous look they have- only the deathwing and kroot come close, and they both only flirt with it for various reasons.

And I would estimate the are the most played non first or second founding chapter. Maybe even the most played non unique codex supported chapter entirely.

nice job

I would love a sheet with the missing DA Numbers on the Vehicle transfer sheet there are all numbers from 1 to 10, but the squad sheet only has 4 different numbers (I don't know witch from the top of my head). Should also be easy to do with a scanner and some vector-based grafics programm like corel (which I lack both)...

@ Joe: It's the head of an Owl, symbolizing wisdom over brute strength (although with marines you get the brute strength as a bonus anyway). They had a couple of great pieces of war gear in the RT days...namely a targeting web and a shift field...

Anonymous said...

@ Anon 12:12 : ANGRY MARINES huh? You want Khorne Beserkers then...

Anonymous said...

Nice set but what happened to the Warp Runners (Legio Astorum} set that Big Red mentioned he might get around to? My Titan Legion needs iconography!

I would really like to see Firehawks, that mushroom cloud is impossible to paint. Some LOTD would also be nice. Thanks.

I just started a 'Hawk Lords' Marine army. Any chance for some decals for that?
