Capitol Imperialis: Part IV

The Beast is base coated...whew.

Once bulwark finished construction on the chassis, he turned the monster over to me to detail and paint. I think the fact that his wife basicly hucked it out of the house had something to do with it as well. :)

In any case, here she is, ready for final detail painting. I probably going to use white as a counterpoint color in isolated places to break up the un-ending fields of green on the Cap-Imp. I'm also working up a special Banner sheet for it as she will be festooned with enormous banners of Cadia and General Crassus' 5th Army Group. Her name is Viridis Castellum; The Green Castle.

Here's a look at one of the test campaign banners in progress.

You can also see the Leman Russ for scale. Like the old saying goes, don't bring a knife to a gunfight.

~The Macharian Crusade book is coming hot on the heels of 5th Edition. Keep your eye's peeled for the Crusade Logo Sheet later this week. What will your IG army be bringing to the Macharian Crusade to earn Glory to the Emperor? Remember you can find BoLS rules for the Cap-Imp here.

That thing is awesome! I bow to the greatness that is the Capitol Imperialis... now build an Imperator Titan for it to spar with!

On a more sad note...
My local GW store has called me and announced that they had to cancel the Midnight shindig on the 11th. So, no 5th edition for me until Sat morning...

That's not a tank... that's a game table!!!

Incredible work, can't wait to see it painted.

Very very very nice. Even at this stage you've got more paint than most of my armies!

Looking forward to midnight. . . our game store opens up the store copy, everyone gets started learning the rules and playing skirmish games for a couple hours, then the books get sold and handed out at midnight. Very sweet way to do it; everyone wins.

Is that a 40K scale leman russ next to it???

That this is HUGE!!

@Anon: Yes it is. Pictures do not do it justice.
@Bulwark You forgot the Vulture Gunship landing pad. :P Oh that's right that would be a Leviathan. ;)

I shudder to think how many stucture points that thing has... at least Bulwark will have somewhere to move into when Mrs Bukwark throws him out!

Awesome guys. Earlier pictures looked a bit dodgy and I was afraid it wasn't going to work, but its looking great.

That's some good stuff.

However, castellum is neuter, and so it should really be called 'Viride Castellum'.

@Chris,

That's in Latin, this is High Gothic ;)

Where can I see parts 1-3?

The red glove has 6 fingers?
O_o.

Mrs Bulwark doesn't know how lucky she is to feature a husband with his own Capitol Imperialis. I wish mine were so lucky, too. ;)

I bought the Shokk Attack Gun for Mrs Dibbley for her birthday, she was very excited... until I built and painted it. MUAHHHAHAHAHAA...

Wow thats huge. I've followed this from the start, and didn't feel it was working (the huge scale and large plain fields bugged me). However, now I see it with its first coat of paint, I think WOW. If I were tackling this monster, I would paint it like a building, with a buildings weathering, and would probably use red rather than white as a counter point (saving white and yellow for divisions, separators etc.) but thats just my 2 cents :>

Also a comment on the campaign markings. Please (begging a little) bring out a set of downloadable campaign markings for guard/marines for current 40k? I'm talking a non detailed, but generic set, that everyone could use in theory, and recognise with opponents on the table top, but could equally be use in tournaments.

Thank you BOLS! I do wish GW would learn from you :>

Please do some plans, I wants it!

Is...Is that a landing pad? *Single tear rolls down his cheek*
Beautiful

I always thought that Low and High Gothic were never given untranslated in 40k fic, just tranlated into english & latin, respectively.

Of course, I see your point - That hypothesis was based heavily on GW having really piss-poor latin. But that basic assumption fit nicely into their usual proofreading toolbox, so it made sense.

I like how the main turret turned out - I was skeptical of that yellow plastic bowl!

I also like the banner a lot. Very retro 40k.

Now weather the **** out of that thing!

You should totally give it a full camo paint scheme just for the lol factor. As if that huge thing could ever bee missed.

So...who had the rules for Orbital Bombardment last?

Wow, can't belive it. I just finished my leviatan but it looks like a box compared to this

Well, I know that most of the kids out there think: wow, it's huge, wow it's great - looking to it in more detail shows that you lost the opportunity to let it really look like a moving 40k-gothic-monster (or gothic kathedral).. well, if I would'nt know that its a 40k-vehicle, well I would wonder what that mowing box should be..
The whole model can be discribed as somehow "1000 missed oportunities" or "no love to the detail". As already stated in earlier posts and other users and me:

why no/only very few gothic details? why no city-fight sprues? why no small statues? more 40k frets? With all of that, you could have presented it with a large bulk of people around it on the games day....

I've seen somme of those awesome 40k-monsters on a games day.. e.g. two "real-size" titans (chaos and loyal), 1,20 meters high standing next to each other (Land-raiders mowing between their feet looked like little ants). Those titans wwere extremley detailed, you could open the back of them and see the whole command crew... and everything scratch build.

Well glassmoon it does look pretty much exactly like the epic model it was based off. And I can't think of any actual GW art showing an Imperialis at all the way you described.

That said, I'm sorry you disapprove of how others play with their toys...

Great job Flylords!!!!1!!1!!

probably the same reason you don't see gothic arches on the Lemans Russ, Chimera, Bombadier, Atlas, Marauder, Lightning, etc, etc, etc. Thats just not the way the IG does their vehicles. Little fiddly bits that tend to break off and get stuck in the tracks are not the best thing when you are in the middle of combat.

awesome work on a demanding project.

Personally, I would change it to Viridis Kasr though, since kasr is the cadian word for fortress and would give it that cadian flavour

XingJun said...

Go Team!

This is looking great, and I love the banners. They work well with the name and look awesome.

SSG Snuffy said...

@ gw

I totally agree with naming it 'Kasr' instead of 'Castellum.' Lenda a nice Cadian feel to it...
