Knight Titan, Part 1

The hardest part, for me, in scratch-building a titan is the legs. It is difficult to get a pair of legs that look beefy enough to hold up all that metal, but still mechanical enough to move it around the battlefield. So, when I saw Xanthos' knight titan on DakkaDakka used modified defiler legs, I was amazed. He came up with a very simple concept and produced amazing results.
The basic idea is to take defiler legs, then insert a bit a plastic between the two halves to make them wider. Brilliant! I immediately headed to ebay to pick up the defiler leg sprue.
It really is as simple as it seems. Cut the leg at the joint (to make the leg straighter) then put some plastic between the left and right halves. I used sprue to expand the two halves. It gave perfectly straight lines and I didn't have to worry about making sure the space between both leg parts were uniform.

The top half of the model will be based on forgeworld's warhound, rather than the ancient epic scale knight paladin. It's a personal preference; I just like the boxy look better than the rounded one.
The head should be the focus of the model. To reinforce the Knight look, it will resemble a knight's helm.
For more info on the Knight Paladin titan, check out the Lords of Battle pdf.
I'll post more updates as the project unfolds.
Everything is coming together well except for the titan CCW. Any suggestions on what it should look like? chainsword? buzz-saw? frying pan of doom?

the designs for the head look very good as well

CCW? A gigantic Xacto knife seems appropriate.

I'm thinking a large spiked mace, or maybe a flail. Keep it with the knight theme.

i'd do a morning star. nothing beats a big ole spiky lump of metal flying round! well cept a power version lol!! or possibly summit like the grey knight DCCW from forge world? great design for the head!

something sufficiently bashy for its weapon will do fine, be it a slightly bent I beam, a plain mace, etc.

maybe a large cog axe. something to tie it to the admech.

personally, nothing beats a knight sized powerfist or sword.

Spiked hammer, ftw.

A giant lance, clearly!

Frying pan of doom, definitely. ;)

How about a poll-axe?

Any kind of flat bashing weapon would just knock enemies over--what you need is something to cut/penetrate the armor, so I think a chainsword or spiked weapon would be good.

But still, I think a 2 handed poll-axe would look awesome. You can stab, hack, or bash with it. The ranged weapon could be on a shoulder/carapace mount.

Anyway, great start!

a chainsaw the size of a tank always has its charm :)

A Powersword and Shield combo with shoulder mounted weapons would look cool. Keep us updated with pics on this one.

Frying-pan of doom. Definitely.

If I magnetize the ccw arm. I could replace it with a shield and run it as a Knight Baron.

What's up with the $cientology ad banner? Not cool!

Well everything sounds better with 'of doom' after it. That said, I'd still have to go with giant chainfist before frying pan. And magnetizing makes the most sense of all!

A quick word on the top banner,

It is under google's control as as we know they are an all knowing company, apparently they have peered deep into your souls and found that Scientology is the answer to your deepest desires and needs.

Now worries though, I'm sure that by tomorrow it will be back to video games, the Olympics, and sexy singles :)

As for the matter at hand, I'm leaning towards mace.

This is a really cool project. Can't wait to see the finished product!

I'd say lance. A big nuematic one that shoots forward like a piston and punches holes in things.

Or you could make it like a really big plasma torch.

But deffinitely a lance because it seems to be a bit more unusual.

Has anyone here heard of Dragonmech?? Good source of inspiration for these things.

If you have acces to the old Space Marine/Titan Legions materials, they detail a lot of different classes of Knights, with various weapon fits.

If not, I'd say giant Power-Eggwhisk... :)

Cool Work. Very inspiring I think I will have to try my own after seeing this work. As for the CCW I would go with a set of connected spinning blades so it looks like a multibladed skill saw. Great for slicing down troops or cutting open any armoured opponent. Now just to thinnk how to Nurgle up a knight of my own.

Think it's very cool so far, I'm building a knight palladin myself and has the same problem with the ccw. Anyway if you want, you can take a look at mine even though it's a WIP. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee354/SteffenSJensen/knighttitan3copy-1.jpg

+1 Vote for the Frying Pan of Doom.

Seriously, I'd just go with the chainsword. If you put anything else in there, then it won't really look like a an Imperial Knight anymore. Especially considering how different the rest of the body looks to a normal one.

Games Workshop previously brought out a whole host of different knight builds and I do love the idea of a giant lance for a swift moving titan which could skewer other giant vehicles.

For a slighty stockier slower moving titan I'd go for something that allows the titan to go head to head with another giant figure, so something like a giant mace or axe, something with an oldfashioned knightly feel to it.

hi.
i think the "forgeworld warhound look" is not the better. but is only a preference.
I assisted at the discution between Bigdaddy (the creator of the titans knights show here : http://hearthguard.over-blog.com/) and william hayes in the French gamles days about his knight. and for Hayes it seems that it is a very good example of what should be a titan knight in the 40k scale.
the reference evocate by Hayes was 19 cm maximum high, and minimum 16 cm.

so Good luck for your scratch !

I think the other guys legs are a little better done. Yours look just too flimsy.
