DEEP THOUGHT: To Proxy or Not to Proxy?

Hi guys:

Today’s topic is proxies. Now we all have dreams of putting together fabulous massive fully painted armies. We want nothing more than to throw down on the tabletop with spectators gathering around in awe of our cool army.

Reality however often doesn’t seem to match. Sometimes you have a new player just entering the hobby, or someone wants to try out a unit’s rules before he takes the plunge. You may have gotten a sudden invite to a big game and don’t have quite enough minis to pull together a list of the required points size.

So todays issue is: Do you load up the extra wargear, upgrades, and make due with what you have or do you throw in a few proxies? From the opponent’s point of view, where do you draw the line?

~Basically, when (if ever) is it ok to proxy, and when is it a complete no-no? Are there shades of grey and how do you handle the issue in you local area? The floor is your’s gentlemen.
