40K Hobby: Death Guard Defiler

Lets take a closer look at one of my favorite models, my heavily converted Pre-Heresy Death Guard Defiler.

When I set out to build this kit, I wanted soemthing very different from the garden variety Defiler you see every day.  This was meant to be a Pre-Heresy, to Mid-Heresy model, so the super daemonic look and feel wouldn’t cut it.  With that in mind, I rumaged through the bits box, and grabbed a lot of Leman Russ, Rhino, and IG Vehicle Accessory bits and built up the entire rear loading deck, based very loosly on the Basilisk’s deck.  A very tired looking marine crewman was modeled up holding a control pad, and sitting on a couple of water cans, with his rucksack and personal gear (including his coffee cup) stowed hanging off the back.

The entire model was painted in my filthy Pre-Heresy Death Guard scheme with custom decals all over the place, and just a bit of the Nurgle nastiness starting to take hold of the vehicle.  I recently got a second Defiler, and may have a go at making another one of these. With a lot of the newer IG heavy weapon bits, I bet I can make the next one even more “Imperial Robot” looking…
