BoLSCon: A Hobby Day with Dave Taylor

BoLSCon 2010 will be from July 29-August 1 this year. I'm pleased to announce that we're starting our hobby presentations with one of the best known people in the hobby, Dave Taylor.

Dave Taylor - the U.S. Editor of Wargames Illustrated - has, over his career, won numerous Golden Demon painting awards and Best Army trophies at local and national tournaments. This year at BoLSCon you can sit down with Dave for (almost) a whole day and learn some of the tips, tricks, and secrets he uses to complete his armies. For three two-hour sessions, you can not only get back to the hobby basics, but learn some great ways to bring your ideas to life on the tabletop.

While these sessions will have a distinctly 40K approach to them, there is plenty of information that can be used by all hobbyists for all genres, from Flames of War to Napoleonics.

Session One: 10am - 12pm
Dave Taylor presents Joe Orteza's "Lose the Fear: Working with Greenstuff" class.
This class will focus on figure conversion and the use of green stuff. Students will learn different aspects of figure conversion, from basic to advanced. The class will touch on the pose of the figure, basing, and the theme of model. I’ll discuss different techniques from singular display models to large units. Students will learn to utilize green stuff for figure embellishment and sculpting.

Session Two: 1pm - 3pm
"Back to Basics: Streamling Techniques to get your Army Painted"
This class will focus on painting models efficiently and effectively, allowing you to get your armies painted that much faster. Students will learn different "tricks" to cut down on the time spent deliberating on color choices, correcting mistakes, and enhancing the "pop" of an army.

Session Three: 4pm - 6pm
"Building that Centerpiece: The Jewel in the Crown of your Army"
Each army you build really deserves to have a standout, unique model that stands in the center of the display board. This class will focus on the use of plasticard (and plasticard related materials) to enhance existing models/vehicles, or create completely new vehicle shapes and ideas. Students will learn the correct ways of handling plasticard, as well as plenty of ideas and tips for embellishing their centerpiece models.

More information to follow closer to the event.

Registration for the Dave Taylor sessions is very limited, and one registration price covers all three sessions. If you have previously registered for another Friday event and would like to change, just send us a note and we will accomodate you (if space allows).

We look forward to playing with you all in July (and August), so head on down to Texas in July for hot weather and great gaming fun. We are expecting a much larger turnout from last year, so get ready to have a blast!

The Doubletree is a NICE hotel. Really.
