Goatboy here and with the Adepticon annoucement, I’m happily cranking out test lists by the bushel. Today I want to talk about what I would play in a tournament if I was planning on throwing down.

Now you know that I am a Space Wolf/Space Goat player and most likely I will be bringing my White Skinned Super Goats to the fight. With that in mind here would be my lists for 1500, 1750, and my favorite 2000 point games.

1500 – Lean, Mean, Head Butting Machine.

HQ: Rune Priest, Runic Armor, Chooser of the Slain, JaWs, Living Lightning
Troops: Grey Hunters X 9, MoW, Flamer, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Power Weapon, Meltagun X 2, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Power Weapon, Flamer X 2, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Meltagun X 2, Drop Pod
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Plasma Gun X 2, Plasma Pistol, Drop Pod
FA: Land Speeder, Typhoon ML
FA: Land Speeder, Typhoon ML
Heavy: Long Fangs X 6, ML X 5

That runs right at 1500 points – gives you 49 Scoring bodies, with a good amount of missile fire to help deal with any lighter mech etc. The meltas are there for the one or two LR you might see too. This is a very, control the field type of list that is designed to fight in a tournament that might have banned Special Characters or have missions where doing things are very important. IE controling objectives, trying to complete funky missions, etc. The only thing you are missing from there is an Elite choice and if you want you could drop the speeders for Lone Wolves or other things to give you a choice in every slot.

1750 – A bit more Fat but still trim and in fighting shape.

HQ: Rune Priest, JaWs, Living Lightning
Elites: Iron Priest, Thunder Wolf Mount, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Cyber Wolves X 4
Troops: Grey Hunters X 9, MoW, Flamer, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Meltagun X 2, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Flamer X 2, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Meltagun X 2, Drop Pod
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Plasma Gun X 2, Plasma Pistol, Drop Pod
FA: Land Speeder, Typhoon ML
FA: Land Speeder, Typhoon ML
Heavy: Long Fangs X 6, ML X 5
Heavy: Long Fangs X 6, ML X 5

1745 is what we have here. I put in more ML to help deal with the increased mech. The points allowed me to put in a small assault type of unit with the Iron Priest. He can hang back by the Rhinos as they move up and give a much needed support role. I dropped all the PW from the Grey Hunters as I needed the extra points to help get me some of the extra stuff I wanted. As you can see I am starting to hit the end of my Force Org charts in all my choices. This is one of the things I like about Space Wolves as they have lots of options all over the place and ways to dump points in order to fill in some of the extra space some of these point numbers will leave you.

2000 – I Can Play with all my Shiny TOYS!!!

HQ: Rune Priest, Runic Armor, Chooser of the Slain, JaWs, Living Lightning
Elites: Iron Priest, Thunder Wolf Mount, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Cyber Wolves X 4
Elites: Iron Priest, Thunder Wolf Mount, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Cyber Wolves X 4
Troops: Grey Hunters X 9, MoW, Flamer, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Power Weapon, Meltagun X 2, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Power Weapon, Flamer X 2, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Power Weapon, Meltagun X 2, Drop Pod
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, MoW, Power Weapon, Plasma Gun X 2, Plasma Pistol, Drop Pod
FA: Land Speeder, Typhoon ML
FA: Land Speeder, Typhoon ML
Heavy: Long Fangs X 6, ML X 5
Heavy: Long Fangs X 6, ML X 5

This hits right at 2000 points. Again I used the same core I have had before for each of my lists, 49 scoring troops and tried to add things that would help out. I should have enough to leave on my base and go and attack another base as needed as well as ways to complete just about any mission. I have a ton of Missile Launchers to deal with mech as needed, as well as some assault elements to let me keep in control of the midfield. I know it is not nearly as one sided as some of my other lists, but I want to try and get a jack of all trades style list that should give any army trouble when trying to deal with and finish off.

I have really been enjoying 10 man troop squads as I feel the 5 man with a Razorback is just a waste. Once you kill the Razorback, that 5 man squad is just a waste at that point, with most armies having many ways to easily deal with that amount of troops. Even with cover it isn’t nearly as hard as a full 10 man squad.

So yeah, there are my lists I would bring to a competitive tournament. Questions? How about you?
