Rabscutle’s Road to Adepticon

2 Minute Read
Mar 19 2011

Rabscutle here, talking about my personal Road to Heck… er… Adepticon.

I’ve always wanted to go, but never really had an army worthy of the trip, much less the money and time off. This year has been kind to me, so when the tickets when on sale I decided to sign up for the Warmachine tournaments. Yes, I’m one of those who has grown tired of 40k and made the jump, but that’s an article for another day.

Without really thinking about it, I made a classic newb mistake and just signed up for an event on each day. Fast Forward to 3 weeks ago when I think to myself, “Hey Rabscutle, you should make sure what you signed up for so you actually build and paint the right army lists.” To which I replied, “Thanks other Rabscutle, you sure do help.”

So I head over to the Adepticon site and go to the event calendar and look at my chosen events…

Oh no…

What did I do to myself?

I signed up for the Friday 50 point hardcore tournament. 7-minute turn time limit is in effect. What was I thinking? I’ve never played timed turns, much less 7 freaking minutes. Never mind that everything in the list has to be fully painted and I have exactly one model that meets that criteria. Oh, and the only scenario is caster kill so that means just go for the throat. Totally different game style than objective based scenarios I’ve been playing all year. All offense, no thought for ground control… just go get em’ and don’t let em’ get you.

Now I check the “Saturday” event… looks like it is actually an overnight event, which isn’t bad… oh… oh heck… I did it again. 50-Point Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw. For the un-initiated that means Caster and Warjacks/Warbeasts only. No support. I play Protectorate of Menoth which lives off layered buffs from support units to make the Warjacks more potent. To say I’m going to need to get creative fast is an understatement. This kind of format is usually a low point cost… 50 is extremely high and will make for very interesting games.

Expecting the worst, I check the Sunday event… and it is the “easy” one. Standard 35-point Steamroller with basic painting and all scenarios. At least all the play I’ve put in this year prepared me for something.

So now I’m furiously painting and testing out lists… this is going to be a rough couple of weeks.

For those of you attending Adepticon, what are you panicking about? What are you rushing to get done before April 1st?  Please oh please let my panic not be alone…
