Warmachine and Hordes: Hyperion and Woldwrath unboxing

4 Minute Read
Oct 26 2012

October brings Privateer Press fans two new huge based releases: the Hyperion for the Retribution of Scyrah, and the Woldwrath for the Circle of Orboros.  Let’s start with the Iron Kingdom’s favorite angry elves.

This is what a new Hyperion owner will see when they open their Colossal.  The Larger pieces are tucked in under the cardboard on the side.  Also hidden are assembly instructions, the cardboard Colossal Wreck marker, and of course the base and cards.

Here are all the pieces.

As you can see, this guy gets an extra dose of Retribution-y embellishments. There’s a circle motif repeated throughout in addition to the usual swirly patterns etched in to otherwise empty surfaces.

Here are the metal pieces.

And hey… look!  Rocket boots!  Too bad they don’t have any in-game effect.  But it’s still a cool model – almost enough to make me jealous of you Ret players.

And here’s our other new toy.  Some of you newer players might not know just how long Circle fans have been yearning for one of these.  It’s been five years since the Woldwrath was first shown in the second Monsternomicon (a source book for the first edition of the IKRPG).  People have been asking Privateer to add it to the Hordes range ever since.

Once again, the inside of the box.  And once again, the big pieces are tucked off to the side with the instructions.

Some assembly required.

It’s hard to find a surface that doesn’t have some runes etched into it.

But those aren’t the only details.  There are also quite a few areas made of rope-bound wood.  There are even some vines growing in a few places…

Like here…

And even on some of the metal pieces.

The forearms are actually just logs wrapped in stone.  For some reason I’m fascinated by the cross-section here.

And while I’m on a log kick, I might as well point out the fact that there are two whole sprues of them.  These guys are going to get glued into all of the little holes all over this enormous construct.  But they also look like they’ll make cool base accessories for whenever the bits can be ordered through Privateer’s website.

And I’m going to end this one with a picture of the Woldwrath’s head.  Am I the only one who just immediately pictures a big long line of these on a hilltop staring out to sea?

~So… post unboxing thoughts:  Have Colossals and Gargantuans firmly implanted themselves in your local meta yet?  How many of you have picked up one of your own?
