Legion of Everblight: Gargantuans Edition!

You all know how important this book is for Hordes, right?  The implications are HUGE!  …sorry.  I couldn’t help myself.  The moment we all saw that first picture of the Archangel, our dreams were shattered.  “You mean Privateer Press is actually giving us a Dragon!?”  Of course they are!  Why, because they love us that’s why!  Find out more after the break.

Archangel:
Ok so the most excitement generating subject of this new release is of course the Archangel.  Everyone else has their toys and now we get ours!  Yay!  This is the single defining reason I choose to play Everblight over all others.  To play with Dragons!!  I’m not going to go into great detail about him yet as he deserves articles all his own!  I will say this though, I look forward to seeing the jealous grin of my friends and opponents as I place on the tabletop, easily the most gorgeous model produced by Privateer Press yet.

Afflictor:

I’ve already talked about this guy in an Article Here.  A brief synopsis though is that this little Light Warbeast is a hell of a lot of fun to play with.  He basically stabs an enemy infantry model and spawns an Incubi from it ala Aliens!
Warspear Chieftan:

Also already talked about this guy in an Article Here.  What this UA does for the warpsears unit though is nothing short of amazing.  Adds the abilities of Prey and Relentless Charge to the unit.  All for the low low price of 2pts and you can have two!  I love this guy already.

Beast Mistress:

These next two entries are rather unique surprises as we didn’t know anything about them until shortly before the book released!  Pardon the pictures, there are not any models for them presently but these are basically close to what they will look like.  Especially the Bloodseer, as it will be a Protector with wings.
Ok so the Beast Mistress, what does she do?  Well it is the first lesser warlock to be included into a faction other than Minions.  She’s FURY 4, has the spells Blood Rain and Energizer.  Her abilities are Field marshal – Agressive and Flank(Lesser warbeast).  It will be interesting to see how she works on the table top.  I plan on testing her out in the coming weeks and will prepare an article to sum up how she plays and my thoughts on it.

Nephilim Bloodseer:

This guy has me excited!  His animus prevents enemy warcasters from upkeeping spells and increases spell costs.  Sweet!  His abilities are Telemetry, Flight, Primal Magic and Brutal Charge.  Obviously I will be writing an article all its own for this wonderful new piece to the puzzle.  Some of the things that jump out to me about him are Telemetry and Primal Magic.  Being able to move this fairly durable beast into range to get a +2 to magic attack rolls is pretty dang awesome!  I can see it now, eVayl trying to hit pMorgul on feat turn.  Pretty rough at 19 def!  Telemetry would knock him back down to 17, so boosting an Icy Grip onto him would only need a 9.  Not to shabby, then it’s 7s to hit him with Obliterations.  Now this all is provided a number of other things happen but Telemetry makes it easier in any of them for sure.  Primal Magic will be pretty sweet as well.  We already have our Warlock, succubus and the beast itself to cast animi.  Now we can add another source out there.  Want to put tenacity on all your warspears or Spiny Growth on all your beasts?  We shall see, I will play quite a few games and report back with what I think of this guy.
Overall Impressions:
We got a Dragon? Check.  Awesome new UA? Check.  New little tools we probably didn’t need but will openly embrace? Check.  And a fun Light Warbeast that will bring endless joy to countless blight individuals? Check!
It remains to be seen who managed to gain the most from this new book.  Arguably it is Skorne and Circle.  I am ok with Circle getting cool powerful new toys.  Skorne, not so much.  Dirty little SOB’s!  Haha, sorry just taking a jab at our local Skorne player and fellow BoLS writer Muffinman.  He is nothing but grins lately!
Overall I think Legion of Everblight faired fairly well. An absolutely gorgeous model, amazing UA and some fun new models. I’ll give it a B+  There are a few pieces in the release that make me scratch my head a little and I think to myself that maybe I’m just not seeing it yet.  That’s why we play this game though, to have fun and tinker with all the list possibilities.  Maybe it will come to me eventually with enough games, we shall see.

Who do you think got the best shake out of Gargantuans?
