Goatboy here again – let’s do a quick top 10 of the new 40K Demon book.  I am excited to get my claws working on lists so look for that in the coming weeks.

The Countdown…
10. The rewards are pretty interesting and I think will see people embrace the random nature.  I am alright with the record keeping as I have already started to bring a sheet I can mark with a dry erase marker for my opponent’s spells, warlord trait, and my own things that need to keep up to date with.

9.  Everything is cheaper.  The point costs have dropped and you will see huge hordes of gibbering jerks running around the table top. 20 models for under 200 points that have a 5++ save, can go to ground, and have cool abilities? Sounds great!

8. Heralds come in a 4 pack.  Yup – screw you Space Wolves I get 4 jerks for the price of one slot.  They are also like super Leader characters and you can still have a “leader” to take a terrible challenge if you need too.

7. Greater Demons are a lot better.  These guys all got better and more in line with their point cost.  I am looking at Keeper of Secrets and Lord of Changes for some army builds.  Most start out as level 1 psykers too so they are usually a good deal.

6. Soul Grinders really make the Defiler look like poop?  Who thinks the Defiler should have had Skyfire with their autocannon eh?  These guys are going to come out in force as well.

5. Every max troop unit costs under 60 bucks.  This is pretty insane when think about it as the Chaos Demons army might be one of the cheapest horde armies in the game in real world money.

4. The Skull Cannon is very interesting and I think will see play as a one off in a lot of the Slaanesh lists.  I know they hate each other but they seem to go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly.

3. Hey you don’t have to deep strike anymore!  Yeah this is great as I was under 50% for getting the wave I wanted with my demons.  Screw that picking crap!

2. I am glad they nerfed the Screamers and Flamers.  I was tired of seeing every Demon list being the same thing.  It does suck for those players who spent that money on those army lists – but they knew the risks…

1. Sorta Fearless – Demonic Instability is pretty dang snazzy.  For almost the entire part of the game that deals with leadership rules Demons can do whatever whatever they want.  This means even using and abusing going to ground.  As people start to play with the army more Instability will start to show itself as the new black instead of ATSKF.  It is also interesting as you can’t remove it with Terrify.

Final Thoughts
All in all I find the Demon book to be pretty interesting and I will be exited to bust out new army lists.  It feels like an army that suits my play style with the mix of horde and sledge hammer mentality.  We’ll see if it ends up looking the same as I burn throw paint, plastic models, and super glue.

…Also, I just got back home after a tournament up in Fort Worth called the Railhead Rumble.  I am sure you don’t care about that – but if you do check out my blog later on this week I will have a full run down of the event.

-What are your first Chaos Deamons impressions? Anyone get in games yet?
