Goatboy here again and today I want to go over the games I played with my Daemon list at Adepticon. It isn’t as mean as I could make it but I think the army works fairly well.  When you are rolling hot with Daemons you are rolling hot.

The List
Here is the list again for those who didn’t see it last week.

HQ: Bloodthirster, Exalted Gift (Usually for the portal), Greater Gift
HQ: Keeper of Secrets, Greater Gift X 2, Lvl 3 Psyker
Troops: Plague Bearers X 10
Troops: Plague Bearers X 10
FA: Plague Drones X 5, Plague Bringer, Lesser Gift (Weapon – Aetherblade)
Heavy: Daemon Prince, MoS, Greater Gift X 2, Lvl 3 Psyker
Heavy: Daemon Prince, MoS, Greater Gift X 2, Wings, Armor, Lvl 2 Psyker
Heavy: Daemon Prince, MoS, Greater Gift X 2, Wings, Armor, Lvl 2 Psyker

The Plan
I also have 20 Pink Horrors to summon out the hole of doom or if I roll Boxcars for the Warpstorm.  I planned to abuse Telepathy and try to lock bigger armies down as my business pieces get to work.  I made cards to help me remember all my rolls for the Daemons.  They are set up like the Warmachine cards and make playing the army easy and quick.  I listed their options, wounds, and even spells to make sure I always knew which guy had what.  I put the pictures of the Daemon on there to help out.

Game 1 – Paul Murphy with CSM/IG
Yup I had to play my buddy Paul Murphy – leader of our ATC team and overall decent fellow.  He wasn’t feeling too hot but at least I knew the game would be challenging and still excellent.
His list in no particular order – Typhus, 2 Dragons, Lots of Zombies, Vendetta, Manticore, Veterans, 2 Maulerfiends, and an Aegis Line.

The Mission had objectives and I ended up winning by having 1 stupid Horror stay alive, some Plague Bearers survive and a DP contesting his objective. The Manticore only killed one Plague bearer the entire game and shot all 4 of its Missiles.  It just couldn’t hit.  I ended up winning it in the end as my DP survive and the game ended.  It is hard starting off taking out a buddy.

Typhus did kill the Bloodthirster and a DP. He was a jerk.

Warp Storm Table things – I rolled the 4 3 times.  Jerks…

Portal Glyph – Made one set of guys – won me the game so a Win!

Game 2 – Bill from Buffalo with Space Marines
I always see Bill at these events and he is a great guy.  Fun to talk with and play games with.  He had an awesome pre heresy Space Marine army with a Chapter Master with toys, Honor Guard with Power Lances, 2 10 man Tact squads, Dreadnought in a pod, 2 sets of ML devastators, Thunder Fire Cannon, Aegis Line with Quad Gun and a Stern Guard squad as well.

This was a rough game for Bill as I was coming to get him with a ton of fat in the air.  I got in, took a little damage (the Thirster ate it again but he did punt a Thunder Fire Cannon). I got in, the MC’s did their work and I grinded down Bill’s army.  Again a good guy and a fun game.  Another Crushing Win for me.

Warp Storm Table – Nothing really interesting at all.

Oh yeah the Thirster died again to bullets.  He hates bullets.

Portal – made one set of guys yay!

Game 3 – Charlie with CSM/Daemons
Wow this was a nutty game. The dice were all over the place.  He had a list right near my heart with a Mauler Fiend, Level 3 Sorc, some cultists, a Lascannon Pred, 15 Chaos Spawn, some Fiends, Dogs, Plague Bearers, the Masque, and some Daemonettes.  This was a rough match as they got in and got to business.

The biggest win was how strong Dominate is when dealing with Daemons.  I stop a few charges from happening which let me win the game.  A clutch Hallucination also sealed it as my Horrors ran off with the Relic. The Portalglpyh is extremely powerful and it won me the game in the end. Charlie kicked ass and it was a tough game with some screwy dice when he didn’t rending through 40+ attacks.  Rough time indeed.  I won this one in the end by Holding the Relic.

Warp Storm Table – I rolled the Slaanesh one and hit the Maulerfiend 5 times and rended 3 of those.  I took him down to one Hull Point and when he charged my DP I was able to smash through one attack and blow him up.

Good Spells – Dominate, Hallucinate.

The Thirster died again – I see a pattern with this Jerk face.

Portal Glyph – I made 3 sets of Horrors and one won me the game by running off with the Relic.

Game 4 – Jared with Space Wolves Drop Pods – Loganwing Light
Jared is from the Toledo area so we know the same people out there.  Good guy with a drop pod list full of Logan, Wolf Guard with Combi Weapons, Multi-Melta Long Fangs, and other Grey Hunters with Pods.  He didn’t have a Rune Priest so I was ready to over power with mind spells.  I didn’t roll that hot on them so it really came down to the Flyers running around and horrors trying to do stuff as they came out of the Portals Dirty hole.  The heavy slots were scoring so I had 3 fat ass DP’s.

He played a bit too conservatively and I was able to grind some guys out who came to close.  I sat on a back objective with a DP that survived a ton of fire power.  Logan took a 2 wounds before coming in and the DP punted him off his toy.  I ended up winning in the end to send me to the top 16 finally!

Warp Storm Table – Finally rolled an 11 and then remembered their wasn’t a Rune Priest. Total BS dangit!  I did blow up some pods with the Slaanesh one.  Hooray rending.

Oh yeah the Thirster Died again to plasma and bullets.

Portal Glyph – Made some guys most of the time.  Didn’t do much as they shuffled around.

Day1 – Results
I made Top 16! – Woohoo the big leagues.  I ended up 6th overall and winning the Best Heratical Army for the first day.  I am the bad guy! I was also the only Daemon player in the top 16.  We had like 9 Necron based armies.  Hooray!

Game 5 – Allan Hernandez – or Blackmoor as everyone else knows him.  Allan is a buddy of mine and a good player busting out his Draigo wing.  Yeah a tough match up game one.  This was a rough one from the beginning.  His army is the normal Draigo, Coteaz, 10 Paladins, 10 Strikes, 10 Inceptors, and 2 Dreadnoughts.  The mission had KP be one of the objectives and the other was a 3 objective contest.

The game was rough as I couldn’t cast spells on the main unit and Allan correctly backed up as I tried to engage.  I missed a 9 inch charge with a MOS walking DP to help crush the Paladins when Draigo wasn’t involved.  He did roll 9 inv saves on Draigo versus the Iron Armed DP.  I didn’t take any wounds from the fight and if I could have punted him I would have at least Tied on the VP and won on the Objectives.  Oh well – awesome game.  Minor Loss for me and dreams of winning out the window. I was playing to crush some Necrons now!

The Portal Glyph got thrown out in front and gave up First Blood.  It didn’t even make a set of guys even.  Sad panda pants.

Warp Storm Table – Nothing of Note.

Oh – hey that Thirster died again.  Yay!

Game 6 – Daniel from Sweden.  I get to try and get my revenge against the Swedes!  Daniel is awesome and we always have a good time when we see each other here. It was great to finally play even though it was versus Necrons.  I found out my army is good versus Necrons as I continue to play the next 3 games.

Daniel had 12 Wraiths, 2 Destroyer Lords with Toys, 3 Annihilation Barges, 4 Scythes, and a unit of Flayed ones.  This is a rough list for a lot of armies to deal with.  Daemons are pretty sturdy and with some proper spells and gifts you can survive their shooting and come in to do some damage.  Also the Warp Storm table could be really good versus them when you get to hit them while they are far away.

Daniel played conservatively and I was able to move up, go get to an area that had an objective and easily control the 3 on my side.  I got some key spells to help too as I locked the Wraith squad plus 2 Destroyer Lords with Hallucination.  My Thirster survived and contested the main objective in the middle of a ruin hiding behind the walls.

Warp Storm Table – I did some more Slaanesh stuff but that was it.

Oh yeah – the Thirster lived till the end! Yay!

Portal made guys – they shot the hell out of the Flayed Ones and helped shoot at flyers and other guys.  Good times indeed.

Game 7 – Austin with Necrons once again.  Austin was a great guy who had a converted Necron army with 1 Destroyer Lord with Toys, 1 Overlord with Toys, 2 Storm Crypteks, 4 Night Scythes with 5 Warriors, 1 Ghost Ark with 5 Warriors, 10 Wraiths, and 3 Annihilation barges.  Yup a normal Necron list hah.

This game had me flying around with Daemons as I pushed them around.  Puppet Master did well as it helped me gut a Wraith unit.  I also had some strong charges in the middle that helped me kill out all his Wraiths and Destroyer Lord.  The Lash of Despair is extremely powerful and if you happen to get Iron Arm you could become a real terror as you end up being strength 7-9 as you fly around.

Warp Storm Table – I lost a character to the 3 but overall nothing much.

Spells – Puppet Master rocked!  Invisibility was great again. I made my Portal Glpyh invisible for the win as I threw it out too far.

I think the Thirst died again – mind is in a blur.

Portal – it made some guys that helped me still win the game.  Excellent

Game 8 – Ken with Necrons/CSM
I recognized the Dragon model as one I have painted and of course Ken had me do some of them quickly for an event.  Normally my models kick my own butt but the Dragon wasn’t just on this game.  Ken had a Dragon, Typhus, 30 Zombies, 10 Zombies, 10 Immortals with Teleport Crytek, 2 Voltaic Staff Cryteks, Overlord with Toys, 3 Annihilation barges, 2 Night Scythes with Warriors, and 6 Wraiths.

This is the game where the Warp Storm table reared its ugly head on Ken and I rolled 3 6’s to hit each of the Annihilation barges and caused 2 to 3 rends on each and blow them all up in one turn.  I also rolled an 11 and Typhus passed his leadership on the 3d6.  This was a rough one where the dice were just on my side as I flew around the table.  Ken tried to kill my Thirster but he survived to punch his Overlord in the face.  It was a rough one for sure but Ken kicked ass.

Warp Storm Table – Woot – rending is awesome.

Portal – it made guys.

Thirster – he lived!  And he killed stuff!  Also the DP kicked Typhus in the face.

Closing Up
So in the end I went 7-1 and felt the list did pretty well.  I have some ideas for changes to help with the GK issues and to give me more – well power in some match ups.  I liked the big MC’s because it emphasizes what I want in a traveling army – it is small and quick to set up and play with.  Plus building and converting a ton of big fat monsters is a lot of fun.  I say the Lash of Despair DP’s are extremely effective in helping keep the Flyer population in check and would advise anyone to look into them if they want to play this type of army.

I’m back in Texas and gearing up for WarGamesCon… and Tau!  What do you think about my list?
