Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,” Here is this week’s top 5!

Highlights:  This week the gang checked in with a 4+ hour show, and they kicked it off with another tournament report.  This week they reported on the ‘Home Nation’s’ team tournament, where they collective as team England faced off against five other countries in an ETC style event.  They describe how the event is run, how champions are chosen, who is put forward, how tables are selected and much more.  They then covered, in their own traditional way, the event.  They discussed their missions, their opponent, what their opponent was playing, the details and results of these games.  After their two and a half hour review of day one of the event, the boys then moved on to part one of their review of the new Codex Eldar!  This is a unit by unit review, so they started with a brief overview of how the army now plays with this new book.  They move on to Warlord Traits, Battle Focus, Bladestorm, and more.  They then move on to cover the Avatar, Autarchs, Seers including Far, Sprit, and Warlocks.  They then move on to the Troop choices, discussed Dire Avengers, Guardians, Jet Bike Guardians, Rangers, and how much better the Wave Serpent has gotten in this Codex with their new rules!  They then moved on to discuss Howling Banshees and how useless they are now, Striking Scorpions, Fire Dragons, Swooping Hawks and more!

Opinion:  This week’s show was easily my favorite, as it had the most complete and tactical evaluation of the first half of Codex Eldar.  Many of the top UK players were on hand to digest this great book and expose of its little secrets.  The ‘Home Nation’s’ review was classic 40K UK, and I look forward to part two next week.  My top pick for the week!

Highlights:  This week’s show is dedicated to the Mordian Iron Guard!  The boys opened up the show with an update on what they have been doing lately in the hobby and games played.  They moved on to the news, where they discussed the emending Apocalypse release and the leaked photos, the release of Codex Eldar and the Iyanden supplement, Forgeworld’s update to Imperial Armour 3, and the latest from the Black Library.  Next, in the ‘Librarius’, the boys dug into the full backstory of the Mordian Iron Guard!  They discussed the horrific conditions of their home world, how it is governed, the infighting among the inhabitants, and the Iron Guard’s role in keeping the peace on this hostile world.  They move on to discuss the Iron Guard themselves, their disciplined manner, their tactics and willingness to take heavy casualties, much more.  They also detailed the Battle of Mordian they their battle with Chaos.  Next, in the ‘Briefing Room’, the boys fielded some questions from their fans, this included things like the number of Space Marines currently in existence, how Space Marines learn how to ride bikes, how Tau pilot their suits and much more.  They closed out the show with a few out takes for humor’s sake.

Opinion:  Episode 60 rebooted saw the REAL staff of DSR back to what they do best, filling my head with great 40K fluff.  Once again they introduced me to Imperial Guard regiment I did not know much about and filled me in with their complete back-story.  As usual, the story was awesome and almost made me want to play IG.  Almost!  The ‘briefing room’ was entertaining as well.  Looking forward to many more guys!

Highlights:  This week the boys opened up the show with an announcement about CelestiCon 2013 and their wave two t-shit sale.  Next, they are joined by Dan ‘the Magnet Man’ and Campos to discuss the new Eldar Codex!  They opened up by discussing some of the history of GW and the origins of the Eldar as an army.  They moved on to talk about how the army and the game evolved from Rouge Trader through the editions of the game to where we are now.  This including quite a bit of reminiscing on how the game and the army itself was back in those days, including old over powered units and vastly different rules.  They moved into discussing 5thEdition and how that edition of the game vastly altered how the Eldar played and basically took them out of the competitive game.  This brought them up to the new 6thEdition codex and their review of this new army, from a different angle.  They rated every unit in the codex in comparison to last edition’s version.  Did they get better?  Did they get worse?  They started by some of the HQs, such as Eldrad, Illic Nightspear and his effect on Rangers, the Phoenix Lords like Jain Zar and Asurmen, Farseers, Spiritseers and much more! They also had a very detailed look at all of the Psychic powers available to Eldar units.  They moved on to the Troop choices, discussing how great Bladestorm is, and more.  The guys continued on down the line and moved on to the Elite selections and the Heavy Support.  Highlights included a closer look at the new Wraithknight!  They closed out with their overall feelings on the new book!

Opinion:  First, the boys did NOT get into the top five because they dropped my name multiple times throughout the show (although it was awesome to hear, love the show guys!).  They did make in for multiple reasons, however, the first being that this show was completely dedicated to 40K, and a great topic to boot!  Also, they did something completely enthralling in their very detailed history of the Eldar in 40K!  I found the history of the army fascinating and to hear it from the perspective on someone who has watched this army evolved was just golden.  They earned their spot here this week, excellent work boys!

Highlights:  This week the cast and crew are diving into the new Eldar Codex!  They opened up the show with Roy in the driver seat and discussed Dave’s move to his new place and a brief update on what they have been doing lately.  They moved on to a quick look at the new Eldar, this included the new model range, what models they had hoped would be redone, and more.  They discussed the changes to the Troop choices, how cool Scatter Lasers are now, Special Characters, and the new Psychic powers.  They also discussed the massive upgrade the Wave Serpent got.  They moved on to the Elite choices and the Heavy Support, focusing a lot on the new Wraithknight, and the Iyanden Supplement.  Next up the guys from BitzBox stopped in and discussed some great conversion!  Then, the boys were back and discussing the leaked photos and rumors of the emending Apocalypse Second Edition release!  They boys theorized what might be included in this upcoming release, including unreleased models and rules changes they would like to see in this new edition.

Opinion:  I am super excited the crew is back to recording after Joe’s move.  This week’s show was just jammed full of great stuff.  First, their review of the new Eldar Codex was excellent and touched on quite a few great combos found in the book.  I also really enjoyed the Apocalypse discussion.  This is a book I am really interested in so hearing the boys opinion on what needs fixed in the current was quite valuable.

Forge the Narrative – Episode 15

Highlights:  This week the boys sit down and discuss the effects of the new Eldar on the current meta.  They opened up the show by discussing WarGamesCon and their experience there, discussing how well the event was run and how the missions effect the games that they played.  They then move on to discuss the new Eldar codex and started off with some of the new shinny rules that make this Codex so interesting.  Things like Bladestorm, the new Wave Serpent, Battle Focus, and the nasty combos out there with the Tau, and much more!  They moved on to discuss their first run competitive Eldar lists, and this included some discussion on Eldar/Tau list as well.

Opinion: This week’s show was a great combination of WarGamesCon recap and a great tactical look at the new Eldar.  After listening to so many top players sing the praises of this codex, I for one, will be keeping a close eye on the meta with these guys out there now.  I especially liked their list building segment, which give some great insight to this new army.
