X-Wing Battle Report – Han Shoots First

A few days ago, Clint of The Metal Bikini ran an excellent article on a list called “Han Shoots First”. Coincidentally, a few weeks ago I filmed a game using that build for the purpose of highlighting squadrons you can create based on what is currently available at your local game store.

It’s no secret that X-Wing has been a huge success for Fantasy Flight in terms of sales. However, this success has also brought the problem of keeping the game on store shelves, which has proved a challenge for Fantasy Flight.

While Wave 1 expansions are creeping back into stores with Wave 2 re-prints coming next month, the only products that you can consistently find at game stores are core sets, the Millenium Falcon, and Slave-1. In response to this, a friend of mine and I decided to bang out a pair of video-recorded games with squadrons built from this rather limited selection. Enjoy!

While Han Shoots First certainly has teeth, it’s not what I would call an “easy button” by any means with strong counters available on both sides of the aisle. Having played a few more games with it, I can say that I do enjoy it a bit, and definitely recommend it as a starting point for new players due to the forgiving nature of the YT-1300’s 360-degree firing arcs.
