The Mars Attacks – The Miniatures Game Kickstarter project has reached the halfway point, with the first major expansion launched – Mars Attacks: Escalation.

The Kickstarter just put up a video of gameplay to check out, but the big deal is the Escalation rules which is a full fledged wargame for all of us who want to play BIG games of Martians vs Earthlings!

General Tor commands you to watch the video!

Escalation is a new rulebook and boxset that includes loads of new troops types – like the Science Division and the Novas Vira – as well as rules for increasing the size of the game to 4’x4’.

Science Division Infantry – creepy little buggers…

These bigger games allow you to play with your entire collection in a brand new series of scenarios furthering the story from the main starter set.

Fleets of Saucers and Robots can do battle against a mobilized military resistance, whilst legions of Grunts and Marines fight against brave, if not sometimes selfish, civilian heroes.

Lots has been written by Games Developer Jake Thornton on his Quirkworthy blog about the gameplay and Mantic have posted several gameplay videos up. Now, Mantic have come back to prepare backers for escalation, with a series of new bundles and rewards based on growing your collection.

This is spearheaded by the launch of a new pledge level: Alien Abduction, which includes $300 worth of credit that you can spend on Core Add-ons, plus a $75 boxed game, free shipping to the US and UK and future stretch goal rewards. That’s over $525 worth of stuff at Retail, for $300 on Kickstarter.

Mantic put together this recommended pledge, which you can see on this crazy-long graphic here (click it for the details)!

So basically, with the Escalation expansion funded, Mantic just threw in a full wargame for those of you looking for a “bigger than skirmish” experience with Mars Attacks. Mantic have already said that while the game is scenario-based, each scenario includes a points system so that you can swap out miniatures with what you have in your own collection. We all know list-building is half the fun!

Giant Robot – $30, or 3 for $75!

Not only that, but Escalation expands the 2’x2’ game as well, with new scenarios and compatible troops types, like the rather awesome Giant Stompy Robot they are current funding!

So if you’re looking for a new game with a great visual style that is just dripping with golden-age sci-fi go check em out and lend your support!

Prepare you tabletop for invasion, and get yourself a fantastic deal!  I’m already drooling over what I’m going to do with the Flying Saucer and that robot thingy.
