Hello everybody, I recently received my Anvil Industry Assault Team for their new Afterlife range and thought I share some pictures with you!

Afterlife is a new narrative wargame under development by Anvil Industry and set in the 24th century. The totalitarian technocrats of the Unity Council rule most of the globe with an iron fist and the outcasts of this brave new world are contained in sealed-off nullzones. But resistance is on the rise in form of the Republic. After decades of enforced peace the Hyper-Cities suffer from riots and insurrection and open warfare between the armies of the Mega-Corporations flares up again. And then there is the Afterlife-technology blurring the line between life and death…

The first Kickstarter for the system was a “primer” to finance the production of the first miniatures and a  background booklet. It was also a test for Anvil Industry to gather experience with crowdfunding, and they passed with flying colors, shipping the pledges in time!

The Assault Team reward consists of 23 miniatures: 8 Unity Council Marines, 8 Republic Grenadiers, 3 Unity Council “Ajax” Exo-Mechs and 4 Republic “Raider” Exo-Mechs. Additionally I picked up a pack of the Republic Weapon Tractors. All pictures are made “out of the box” without any clean up.

The booklet has 33 pages and features a short history of the Afterlife universe, background for the Unity Council and Republic and their militaries and 3 short stories.

The miniatures came packed in clear plastic bags. Some bits were broken of the sprues (the gates are really thin), but nothing was damaged or missing. The material is comparable to Forgeworld.

The UC Ajax suits come with separate heads and a range of different weapons including miniguns, 60mm grenade launchers and EMP cannons. The rubble-style sprues which can be used as base decorations are an incredible idea!

These are the Unity Council Marines. Although most of the regular infantry is only two pieces, each one has an individual pose and there are 64 possible combinations. All upper bodies and legs fit together without any need to cut or fill. Both squads include pieces to build an NCO, a medic and a com-specialist.

Due to a ban on weapon development the Republic “Raider” suits are modified industrial deisgns lacking the armor and firepower of the Ajax. They can be armed with rocket pods or gatling guns.

The Republic Grenadiers come in the same set-up as the UC Marines.

The Republic Gun Tractors are remote-controlled mobile weapon stations. Before you ask: Yes, a heroic scale human torso will fit nicely onto the tracks 😉
All in all the quality of the miniatures is exemplary. There was not a single defect or bubble on one of the pieces, just some flash which you can easily remove even without any tools.
And finally a scale shot with a Terminator, a Space Marine and a Perry Miniatures WW2-soldier.

As you can see the miniatures are smore on the true scale side, like the Imperial Guard from Forgeworld.

And how do they look painted? Well, I am no wizard with the brush, but this is the first of my Ajax suits:

The miniatures will be available soon from Anvil Industry. If you want to learn more about Afterlife check out the updates from the Kickstarter Campaign.

In April a Special Operations Pack with the beta version of the rules as well as a number of scenarios will follow. Additionally it will include 8 new miniatures:
Marine Commander in “Tracer” Exo-Mech, Spectre Assassin Operative, Battlefield Technician and Predator Strike Drone for the Unity Council and Grenadier Command section and a huge “Goliath” Heavy Support Mech for the Republic as well as a Kickstarter exclusive Bounty Hunter.

Another full-scale Kickstarer can be expected later this year.

Anvil Industry has some very interesting ideas for the game like calling in flexible reinforcements during a mission or hidden objectives. If they get this done it will be awesome!
