Ask a Gamer with the Harlequin Codex

Harlequins-graceful

Some lucky gamers are getting a treat in the mail. Here are some juicy final details from the new book:

Confirmed from the physical codex:

by Warseer’s ZeroNoRyouki 2-19-2015

Harlequin Tactical Objectives
11) Dance of Death
You gain 1 VP at the end of your turn if at least one enemy unit was destroyed during your turn

12) Hit and run
You gain 1 VP at the end of your turn if at least one friendly unit Hit&Run off a combat during your turn. If 3 or more unit do it, you gain D3 VP instead

13) Tricks and pitfalls
When you generate this objective, both players secretly select one objetive marker. You gain 1 VP at the end of your turn if you control one of those markers. If you control both or if you control one that was selected by both players, you gain D3 VP instead

14) The joy of lament
You gain 1 VP at the end of your turn if at least 1 enemy unit failed a Morale, Pinning or Fear test during your turn

15) Appears on the scene
You gain 1 VP at the end of your turn if you control the objective marker whose number equals the turn number. Can’t be obtained from turn 7 onward [you don’t say….]

16) Main attraction
(I’m rewording it)
At the end of the game you gain:
– 1 VP if your Warlord is alive. OR
– D3 VP if your Warlord is alive and the enemy one is not. OR
– D3 + 3 VP if your Warlord killed the enemy one during a challenge

Harlequin Allies
BB: Eldar and Dark Eldar
Conv: Imperium and Tau
Desperate: Orks
Apoc: everything else

You can’t use the CAD or Allied detachment (because we have no HQ) so yes, only formations and masque detachment

Any Character can be the Warlord

Full Harlequin Roundup

The fat lady is pretty much singing on the Harlequins…  On to CHAOS!

  • Nogle

before all the rules questions, here’s the most important ones
    1. how many pages of fluff?
    2. Does it describe the first harlequins, how they started?

    • Koszka

I feel like I’ve never really heard a good origin story for them. They’ve always been a mystery. Then again, some things should be kept locked up in the black library…

  • GoodOleBoy01

Are there any other unit options other than what we’ve already seen? Or will my Harlequin jetbikes and Harlequin wraithlords continue to gather dust? (Or be used in an Eldar army that allies with the ‘quins… but I’d rather have them as part of my clown punching calliope!)

    • Skimask Mohawk

didn’t the harlequin jetbikes just get released? why would they continue gathering dust if they have an entry in the codex and a new model?

      • PTFO Inspector

I think he’s referring to the old codex where they had single seat bikes like other Elder, the ones with the faces on the bonnets. But I too hope they’ve remembered to put wraithlords in, a simple addition that will make peoples day.

        • Anggul

I don’t see how a Harlequin Wraithlord could exist. They don’t have spirit stones, Cegorach catches their souls instead.

They would have to be awoken as a Wraithlord, then say to the Spiritseer after the battle: ‘Don’t bother putting me back to rest, I’m off to join the circus!’

          • Weidekuh

I remember that in the fluff (was it 2ed codex?) that Harlequins often use or accompany Wraith units. They probably don’t “make” wraiths out of themselves, but still like to use them for combat. The dead and the clowns. Makes a scary ensemble.

          • LordKrungharr

Could the Harlequins be Battle Bros with the Iyanden supplement or does that not count as Eldar now? That would indeed be pretty awesome if possible.

      • mighty_pirate

Do what I intend to do & take an Eldar allied detachment. Autarch on a jetbike with mantle of the laughing god for HQ & 6 Windriders for obsec troops. Use your old Harlequin bike models for those.

      • Spacefrisian

Everything shown here is everything you wil find in the dex, no Harlequin Avatar (thats not anything near the eldar variant, only same name), no single seat jetbike, no Harlequin Venom and no Harlequin Wraithlord.

If you ask me it seems this is just something you want to play with an Eldar part added to it, imho not worth the 40 Euros GW asks for it.

    • P to the G

Nope, what you’ve seen is want you get! Troupe, solitaire, death jester, shadows ever, bikes, transport and heavy weapon platform. Lots of pretty good formations though, allowing you to use just a few models right up to a whole dammed army

  • Red_Five_Standing_By

    1. How many pages is the book?
    2. How many pages of fluff?
    3. How many different units/characters/vehicles are there?
    4. What is the art like?
    5. How about the photography?
    6. What kind of relics do the Harelquins have?
    7. Are there any units in the codex that have not yet been revealed?
    8. What kind of battles does the fluff describe the Harlequins fighting in?
    9. Does it go into detail about how the Harlequins interact with both the Eldar and Dark Eldar?
    10. Which unit do you believe is the coolest?
    11. What kind of detachments are in the book?
    12. Are there any special missions in the book?

  • Lohn Pondai

There was a short story about a Harlequins’ performance in a craftworld. It was called “The Dance Without End” by Graeme Davis, originally printed in White Dwarf 105. Wondering if its been included in the codex? It was a nice piece of art and it was included in the first WD Harlequins “dex”.
