Goatboy here again and today and I want to talk a bit about where I should go next with any future army. Decisions Decisions…

I think I am tired of playing Daemons/Chaos and need to try something different.  I think I have been burnt to many times with bad Psychic rolls, unforgiving random tables, and the overall feeling that maybe I just need to try something different to get better.  I think that is the crux of this “army crisis”.

That New Army Itch

I have felt my “skills” lacking as of late.  Most likely due to becoming increasingly super busy – real work, side work, baby work, keeping wife happy work, real life work, etc.  You mix all of that in with a rather broad boredom of my own current “favorite” plastic miniatures and you have me looking at a host of other armies to focus my scatter brain on.  So the question is – what should I work on next?

Locally I am looking at trying to get a Necron army started up.  I dabbled in an ally contingent during the hey days of 6th edition and figured reworking some of the overall paint schemes and designs might lead me to a new army.  I was originally going to do some kind of crazy Chaos nonsense idea but rethought that idea.  I think I need a complete clean break with the only Chaos influence being on completing another army thought with the Space Goats.  Of course with Necrons being the newest poster boy for internet groans I am left wondering if I should invest that time.  It does help that finding the models I need has become rather difficult.  You would have thought Tomb Blades would have been ordered in great numbers but I get the feeling the ports have more to do with a lack of plastic robo bikes then GW’s lack of forecasting.

Hello C’Tan!

Still the robots are going to get worked on when they finally come back to the shelves.  I just have to wait.  This just means I keep tinkering with lists and other ideas.  I don’t plan on using the Decurian etc detachment.  I spelled that wrong and I don’t care to look it up.  It doesn’t interest me even though it has the battle box feel I think I need to bring back to help me “get” better.  I am planning on trying to limit some of my unit choices to one of’s in order to remove the normal hammer nature of my lists and try to win with thought instead of just brutal math.  The only unit I want to try and use as much as I can is the good ole C’Tan.  Sean showed how using a so called bad unit to shame other armies is a way to gain magical 40k powers so I hope to try and C’Tan shame my way into some kind of greatness.  I just can’t escape random tables so I might as well embrace one that doesn’t completely bone me in the end.  I did build one C’Tan out of a Groot Disney Infinity figure the other day.  I will try out one of them to see if it is worth investing in another one.

The shell of the list looks to be using the Destroyer Cult, some Immortals, one unit of Tomb Blades, One unit of Wraiths, one to two Night Scythes and some non named Characters.  I know the Orrikan is probably one of the best new HQ’s but as a buddy said – don’t play Special characters and instead make your own heroes.  I think he plays a heck of a lot better then I do so I might as well try to follow suit.

List Shell

HQ: Catacomb Command Barge, Warscythe
Troops: Immortals X 5, Night Scythe
Troops: Immortals X 5, Night Scythe
FA: Tomb Blades X 10, Nebuloscope etc X 10

I have some random points left over – so I have no idea what to do. I will probably drop the C’Tans in the end but I want to try them out. The idea of a mad and broken god deepstriking in sounds neat. It probably won’t work but hey – this army is all about making me playing different stuff. I might end up building a warrior base in the middle. The Catacomb Command Barge is just a fast option to get around the table as needed.

If I can’t get all the Necron parts soon enough I think the Space Goats will make a comeback.  When you read this I have just finished playing a Texas event – the Railhead Rumble – with a Space Marine/White Scars + Space Wolves Champions of Fenris army.  I had to go with what I had mostly painted up so there is a ton of extra points in the list.  Lots of Meltabombs everywhere.  I think it looks ok and it still has the hammer type of unit I love to throw down with.  If it ends up being decent I might rework it a bit.  It feels like the Super Friends list the FTN guys have thrown together but I need to add my own flavors to it no matter how terrible it ends up tasting.

1750 cuz that is the point limits for the event.

Using the List

The initial thought is to somehow make a super unit so big it covers the entire table with doggies.  If I could find decent looking Goats all my dogs would end up looking like them.  The only ones I have found are the weird animal figures you get at Craft Stores.  They have the dead eye stares that creep me out so I just use regular dogs.  One day GW will come out with Battle Goats and my life will be complete. I keep thinking to go away from White Scars because everyone else plays them and instead look to Blood Angels. I lose some of my super kill ability but I can gain a ton of scoring bodies in scouts and other options. Its a thought.

Finally if I don’t feel right with the above too I still want to get an Ork army together. I have this dang Stompa kit that is screaming at me to put together. I know everyone says it won’t work but dangit it would be fun. I don’t have any real lists set up for the army. I keep wanting to do a ton of Warbosses on Bikes as it sounds decent plus the conversion potential is there. If I could get Orks working that isn’t just the Greentide I would feel pretty good.

What armies are you planning? Are you thinking of anything new? Every time I try to build a Harlies list I get kind of annoyed at the point sinks the army forces upon you. Its like they want you to buy all those models to make it work… those sneaky gits. The Rumors Khorne Jugger riders for 40k might throw me back into the continued loop of the bad girlfriend that is the Chaos Space Marines. My hobby dollars have really just been spent on paint lately with small forays into books that look interesting. It gets sad when the plastic crack you want to buy is not available at your friendly neighborhood dealer.
