Age of Sigmar: Lizardmen, Wood Elves & More Background

age-of-sigmar-splash

There is new set of info doing the rounds on the “new” races in Age of Sigmar, and what they have been up to since the Old World blew up!

So, now we know what happened to the Wood Elves who Lileath put into the “escape pod” at the end of End Times Khaine. It looks like the Lizardmen flew into space, and have a fleet of Slann space -pyramids that they use to dart in and out of the 9 realms as they strike against Chaos.  I’m loving it and and would like to coin the phrase “Space-pyramid-dinos”.

While we’re talking about it, its time to start chronicling the Age of Sigmar Changes.  That means Lexicanum Loremasters are needed!

  • Joe Blow

    Nope!

  • Kaylum Dicks

So the lizardmen and their dinosaurs are in spaceships? I think someone at GW is a big Doctor Who fan

    • Michael Gerardi

      Ex-ter-mi-NATE!!!

      • Spacefrisian

        AFFIRRMATIVV

      • euansmith

“RESISTANCE IS… erm… The inverse quantity is electrical conductance..?”

        • Haemonculus

          “Who are the Sorylians?”

        • ChubToad

          LOL pls stahp!

        • Zechrabah

Ohmians vs. Seimenites battle box confirmed?

      • am1t

“Biddy Biddy Biddy … Hello Buck”

    • StinkHorse

We would have also accepted “What is Star Trek: Voyager?”

      • Slaanesh_Devotee

Oh yeah, I remember that episode!

    • Patrick Doty

      Exodites….

    • 1816186

They have always been from space and I think GW is taking the whole aztec/mayan/south American space travel thing.

      • Nameless

the old ones visited the warhammer world, however the lizardmen are not the old ones. instead the different lizardmen species where birthed from the spawning pits once the old ones had arived.

        • 1816186

so lizardmen were created by space aliens to be their servants and taught them all manner of special things… they are clearly inspired by mayan/aztec/south american space travel theories (google it)… nothing wrong with them taking the theme of space lizards.

    • Chris Maile

That was done in red dwarf first and dino crisis 3!

    • Matt

We won’t know for sure until one of their Heroes is a 2-model unit comprised of a Seraphon and her “maid”.

      • euansmith

I would love a Sontaron army… and you could just use copies of the same mini for the entire thing… score one for clones!

        • Matt

That’s how the Squats should come back! They could have Jokaero allies so that there would be actual Automated Laser Monkeys!

  • Thedinosaur

    so they’re good guy tyranids?

    • silver843

Just give them a few K years to evolve and go off the diet

    • TweetleBeetle

Except they don’t operate via a singular, brooding consciousness incapable of intelligent thought, logic, or diplomacy. They have a hatred for one particular enemy, instead of an instinctive desire only to feed. They also aren’t disruptive to all things psychic, and an all consuming force from outside the galaxy.

      Other than that…

No, they still aren’t good guy Tyranids.

      • Thedinosaur

its funny that you took the time to comment on most posts on this article

        other than that…

        no, its still lol worthy.

        • 1816186

how did you get the good guy tyranids in the first place?

          • JoeofDoom

            Because it was funny.

        • Steven Hyche

Funny how you took the time to comment about him commenting in a place where all you do is comment.

          Other than that….

Yes, everything should be lol worthy or you take life too seriously

  • Neal Schwartz

apparently the sylvaneth are actually the treemen, dryads and the other wood creatures, no elves. looks like the wood elves themselves are merged with their kin.

    • Again…Called it~

      • TweetleBeetle

Because it was difficult to predict…

    • Aezeal

Nothing apparently about it.. just open the woodelf warscrolls and read it.

      • Slaanesh_Devotee

Well those would be what makes it ‘apparent’.

    • Chris Maile

I really like that they might be expanded on and also give some light on a drycha/ coeddil corrupted rebellion

      • Steven Hyche

Thats not exactly true. They opened up the lists for your imagination. You can ally as you see fit. So you can ally treemen with elves to make a warband of Wood Elves.

I got an email from GW yesterday saying that your imagination is supposed to be the only limitation. (In response to me complaining about no points or army org).

I still would like points but I like how you can make any army narrative you like.

        • Gridloc

Yes, because with the old rules you couldn’t just use your imagination and ignore the rules. Nope we need GW to make a bad rule set so that its ‘Okay’???

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

Now you know and knowing is half the battle.

        • Brookgrim
  • Deathwing

waiting to see what happens with Tyrion and Maleketh. wonder if the aelfs will be a combined force from the realms of light and shadow or split again.

    • Neal Schwartz

well they showed aelfs in the last white dwarf but they were all dark elves. i’m wondering if somethign else serves tyrion, like how the treemen serve alarielle now.

      • Secret_Keeper

I don’t think those were really “Aelfs”, more just a way to highlight that “Elves” are still playable with the rules they have put out. Somewhere down the line I expect we will see some new minis in a new style that really are Aelfs as they appear in the AoS canon.

        • TweetleBeetle

Absolutely. All eight of these “new” factions will likely have releases in the wings over the next few months to fit the feel and aesthetic of the ones we got with the starter set.

        • Ben_S

I don’t know. They only recently re-did a lot of the Dark Elf range. You think they want to throw those kits away so soon?

          • JoeofDoom

Yes. They have been doing crazy stuff like that for years now.

          • Andrew

I don’t think they will. The little bit I’ve seen describes all three races differently. I think the Dark Elves are called Exiles or something now. I’m betting there’s a schism of sorts again.

          • BossmanRich

GW loves to keep using this term “Limited Edition” so whats a few blocks of steel and plastic they can chew up and recast? =)

      • Mordrot

I hope tyrion dies. My least favorite character in the series. He doesn’t think or plan anything. “A problem? Ok let me hit it with my sword” Grimgor has more mental capacity.

    • kaptinscuzgob

with tyrion being boss of the light realm, ill be very surprised if malekith isnt in charge of the shadow zone

  • Sean Parker

    hmmmmm space pyramids…

    • TweetleBeetle

Because no one has ever thought of that before, and Lizardmen weren’t always descendants of an intergalactic space race which used pyramids in their various arrays of symbolism or anything…

      • 1816186

lizardmen always had a theme “coming from beyond”… space or otherwise, heck I would prefer them to be space lizardmen but there is no space in fantasy anymore… they are more like good guy chaos now

    • Retconned Legion

The thing that always bothered me about the Goa’uld ships: Stargate says the pyramids were made for them to land on. Okay. The pyramids in Egypt have four sides.

The Goa’uld ships that land on top of them have three sides.

      • DaveTycho

Ra’s mothership had 4 sides. He was the first Goa’uld to occupy Earth, so the Egyptian pyramids would have been built for his ships. The hatak motherships are a newer class so they would have been built later. Also there have been some 3 sided pyramids sighted on Goa’uld worlds.

      • zeno666

Its a D4, aka Bringer of great pain to feet 🙂

  • Raagoth

It’s always painful seeing the name ‘Alarielle’ instead of ‘Ariel’. I feel like Wood Elves have lost most of their uniqueness. Fingers crossed some more of their characters make a comeback other than just Araloth

    • deris87

This isn’t Wood Elves, this is all tree spirits. It remains to be seen if “Wood Elves” will actually be in the new game.

      • TweetleBeetle

All of the Elves are in the new game, just united. You can pick whichever flavor you want them to look like.

        • deris87

Not really, Aelfs are in the game, and if they get the Beyond Thunderdome aesthetic overhaul humans have with the Stormcasts I doubt I’ll have any interest.

      • 1816186

tree spirits have always appealed to me more than wood elves ever did.

    • bobrunnicles

I still have the official GW model of Ariel from many moons ago – where are my stats for her, GW? Huh? Lol. Picked up both her and Orion before he got war puppies in his box too.

  • Jason Jackson

Space pyramids? Like in the end of Kung Pow?

    • Dennis J. Pechavar

      Stinky pits and all baby!

      • fabiobile

What do you get when you cross an owl with a bungee cord?

        • doodledude3

          My ass…nnnnngh!

          • fabiobile

            ENOUGH!

        • Dennis J. Pechavar

Tried to respond with the quote but they removed it.

  • SacTownBrian

Very misleading title to this article. Just go to GWs website and you can see that there are no elves in the Sylvaneth.

    • TweetleBeetle

It wasn’t misleading, as the title tried to cover 4 topics with all sense of vagueness.

Even if it were “misleading,” what do you profit by saying it like a troll? Any comments on the article itself?

    • Azhrarn

With the exception of Alarielle, who barely qualifies as an Elf with her Incarnate status. 😀

  • Mike Tbone Green

fyck these new names for the races

    • TweetleBeetle

Aww…boo hoo. Unique names instead of stolen traditional fantasy names.

More original and cleaner. Oh, and GW can protect their IP this way. You can thank ChapterHouse for those changes.

      • Dan

Except changing a couple of letters here and there isn’t all that original. Seraphon? Just call them Seraphim, it’s clearly what they are basically going to be. And the ‘new’ names they are coming up are just f**king stupid. I mean come on, ‘Aelf’? Really? I mean how is that even supposed to be pronounced? Is it pronounced ‘Ale-ef’ or ‘Alf’? Either way, it just sounds horrible.
I suppose you have a point with Games Workshop protecting their IP. Hopefully it will stop Games Workshop from again trying to sue innocent middle-aged housewives in the future like they did with the author of ‘Spots the Space Marine’.
Frankly though, I would of much preferred it if they just stuck with the stolen traditional fantasy names.

        • ShasOFish

Except Seraphon is as much a play on Sauropod as Seraphim, as well as Sphenodon, which is a species group of lizards,

          • You’re overthinking it. They just took a name already used in WHFB and recycled it. Seraphon was Malekith’s black dragon.

          • benn grimm

It comes from the hebrew; ‘saraph’ which means to burn. Its been a name for thousands of years.

And no it is not just as much a play on sauropod, sauro or sauros has a completely different root. Apart form anything else its greek, not hebrew.

Just because it sounds a bit like that to you (or the e3ejit in gw who thought this was better for copyrighting, just because its also the name of malekiths dragon) doesn’t make it so.

        • Retconned Legion

Aelf is pronounced elf. Just like daemon is pronounced demon.

          • Dan

Well that’s good, because that’s exactly what I was going to keep calling them anyway.

          • euansmith

            You mean it isn’t pronounced dee-aye-ee-mon? Darn…

          • benn grimm

            and Ayyy-eeyyy-elffs…

          • euansmith

            Ayyy-eeyy-el… FFS…

          • jeff white

            ay el fiss iz

          • Da Masta Cheef

lol, in my head that read as: Ay ‘F’ This…

          • Firefly
          • euansmith

Our spiritual liege approves this message…

          • jeff white

            duh… ee-mon?

        • 1816186

why does it matter if they are called “elfs” “aelf” “lizardmen” “seraphon” ? if the models are good and the lore is good (and nothing suggest the lore is bad, teleporting lizardmen fighting chaos? bloody yes please… and army of tree spritis/nature YES PLEASE,, skaven bow part of chaos and can join and be used within a chaos force YES FRICKING PLEASE, ESHIN HIRED NINJAS FTW)…

look at it this way ANY NAME other than “Lizardmen” is a better name than “Lizardmen” they could have called them “SHAKAMAKALALAKA” and it would still be better than lizardmen

          • benn grimm

That’s just like, your opinion man…

          • 1816186

            you make me moist

          • jeff white

            i liked lizardmen…

          • 1816186

and I am sure a lot of people did as well but lizardmen is the most generic term possible… its like having a unit called “soldier” :/ nothing wrong with it but its still a generic term

        • Dennis J. Pechavar

          Alf.

      • Algernon Bumbry

There still stealing the core concepts and Aelf is an old germanic spelling. Trying to claim ip protection on this stuff just generates bad press especially since GW are cowards and only try to sue some nobody who self publish a book with space marines in the title while letting blizzard rip off warhammer so bad that Blizzard admits that orcs and humans was originally a warhammer game. I honestly cant think of a greater mishandling of an ip GW and there insane protectionist corporate philosophy serves only to make them look like foolish while not stopping anyone from making similar models.

        • Aezeal

They would really have had no case against warcraft.. as mentioned.. orc and humans aren’t exactly GW IP. Space marines could have been seen as their IP though.. but apperantly to generic too.

          • Algernon Bumbry

The phrase and concept both over hundred years old they never had a possibility of claiming it as ip. I meant the game itself orcs and humans was the title of the first warcraft game.

          • 1816186

which was meant to be a warhammer game..

          • Dan

The term ‘space marine’ has been a generic staple of science fiction for well over half a century. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it was the science fiction author Robert Heinlein who first used the term.

          • Algernon Bumbry

Its older then Heinlin it was first used by Bob Olsen in 1932 for a short story. Heinlins Mobile infantry is the most well known example of the concept oddly enough I dont think Starship Troopers ever calls them space marines though.

          • 1816186

the original warcraft (rts not mmo) was more or less to be a GW warhammer game that separated and became something else… I am not even joking look it up

        • Retconned Legion

Yawn. Warcraft is an example of what happens if you don’t protect your IP straight away. There is nothing they can do about it now.

And Spot the Space Marine was more Amazons fault than GW.

But let’s not let silly things like facts get in the way of a rant against the evil GW. I heard they ate babies while writing AoS.

          • Algernon Bumbry

They never could have stopped warcraf any more then the Tolkien estate could have stopped warhammer from coming into existence.

The Spot the Space Marine fiasco entirely on GW zealous attempts at litigation Amazon allowed the publishing of a book with a perfectly legitimate title GW filed a laughable law suit backfired so badly that it became a pr disaster and let to them taking there facebook page down after they posted a childish rant and this is only the tip of the iceberg of failed lawsuits by GW.

But hay why let facts get in the way of a fanboys need to defined every decision a company makes.

I don’t hate Games workshop far from it and I don’t think there evil either I think they are very poorly managed and they are making bad decisions that are slowly destroying them and there IP which is a shame because in there time they have made some dammed fine games and models

          • Retconned Legion

Except it was Amazon who chose to take the book down.

          • Algernon Bumbry

Which makes GW actions better how?

          • jeff white

            yes.

          • Me

“I don’t hate Games workshop”… Yes, but do you hate punctuation? 😛

          • jeff white

how exactly is this a bad thing, though? people who liked warcraft end up liking orcs and this brings them to gw’s front doors so… how is this not a good thing?

        • 1816186

you REALLY have no idea how IP works, its not about stealing the name “aelf” and suing others, its about creating an stronger image of thinks, Orcs and Orks are pretty much the same but Orks is more distinct just like Aels is more distinct then Elfs… simple, to actually sue someone you need more than just the name… its why GW FAILED suing for space marine

          • Algernon Bumbry

No I understand how Ip works. I am not entirely sure Games workshop dose that is why not only do they fail with law suits but they don’t prevent other companies from making miniatures that can be used in there games, which is there some what miss guided goal. Aelf is yet another example of GW thinking they can claim something as there IP which they can’t, like Space Marines, Eldar and dozen other things.

I agree with you that it is about creating a strong image I will go so far as to say it is about trying to create the dominate image of the thing. GW dose not even attempt that, They have almost zero advertising and the only time they ever get any press coverage other then war gaming sites is when they do something stupid like attempt bad law suites. Bad Press which damages the brand.

      • OrksIsMadeFerRockin

Your right ogor is much more original than ogre

        • euansmith

          Ogor blimey!

        • standardleft

          compared to say Ogryn?

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

            Ooooh space and futuristic! 🙂

        • 1816186

erm… it sorta is, anything is more original than Ogre…

      • izmerul

Stolen? Common doesn’t mean stolen …

When someone in fantasy drinks a strong bitter hot black drink just call it coffee … no Kaff

        • euansmith

It is called a flagon of Steaming Dragon’s Pee down our end of woods.

      • benn grimm

Oh yeah, much more original and clean…lol, you could thank chapterhouse; or you could thank an overly litigious, aggressive legal team for taking on a case which was un-winnable. Dumb lawyers…:)

        • euansmith

Erm… the lawyers probably still got paid…

          • benn grimm

I’m sure they did, but I somehow doubt they got a bonus that year…

        • jeff white

dumb lawyers with something to do in the morning. ummm. dumb management with nothing better to do in the morning more like it.

          • benn grimm

Yeah you can blame management, personally I blame the lawyers, they should’ve known better, at the end of the day, who is supposed to provide legal advice to who?

          • 1816186

for a dude made of rocks you sure make a lot of sense… can we spoon?

          • JoeofDoom

GW didn’t want smart lawyers, they wanted lawyers that told them yes and did whatever they said. An attorney has to keep going with a lawsuit if their client demands it, even if its a terrible idea.

          • benn grimm

Sounds about right, oh well at least it thinned the budget out a bit eh? 😉

      • Da Masta Cheef

No, you can thank GW going after someone stealing names, just like GW did a long time ago (as you’ve already pointed out).

    • Aezeal

      I like Sylvaneth.

      • 1816186

        me too

        • AircoolUK

I’m quite happy with the way things are going. I don’t think I’ll be able to call some of the races by their new names, especially greenskins and dwarfs, but not much has changed everywhere else.

          • 1816186

give it time, I actually do not really care about he names.. its all about the minis for me, AoS is looking tasty every day.

    • euansmith

“Fyck”? Is that a new copywritable expletive? Frack and smeg, I scroting like your flocking style!

      • AircoolUK

Smeg is actually just short for smegma, it’s not a made up expletive, like, erm, Pempslider.

  • freddieyu

New names = something GW can claim to be their IP…

  • izmerul

no no no no no no no … no space pyramids damnit …

    AAUGH!

    • TweetleBeetle

Lizardmen have literally ALWAYS had/come from space pyramids.

      • izmerul

I guess … I like to keep ‘space’ away from ‘fantasy’ … space just rhymes with ‘guns’ and time travel and … Sci-Fi

Some stories are better left untold. Nobody knows what Gandalf really is and that’s fine with me.

        • USS Daedalus

I apologize if I am missing a very deliberate error here (perhaps like when I insist there is not Avatar: The Last Airbender movie) but we actually do know what Gandalf is.

          • izmerul

ok fair enough the Maiar are spirits …

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

Or the live action Dragonball movie…

        • Aezeal

Gandalf is a Maia. Reading Tolkiens books instead of watching only what is released as a movie actually gives quite a bit of infomation.

          • MPSwift

^This… all 5 wizards were. In the books Saruman dies in the shire releasing his spirit form which looks longingly into the West before being blown into nothing as he is banished from the Undying Lands. But I digress 😉

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

Also never told the names of the last two wizards, MERP did come up with background and names for them.

          • izmerul

i’m not the biggest Tolkien nutcase but i read the hobbit and the lord of the rings long before the movies came out. and listened to the silmarillion on audio book …

anyway yes there’s a name for what he is but no explanation of what that is or what they can do. it’s all extremely vague.

        • 1816186

yes but its very much established that lizardmen in fantasy came from space :/, I personally think its rather cool, they have always been the anti-chaos force in my eyes and this just solidifies that… teleporting good guy lizards? that is pretty cool..

  • moonshadow101

It’s kinda funny watching people trying to hard so be angry.

“They gave the Lizardmen a less stupid name? ARGGGHH!!!”

AoS has plenty of real problems to be angry about. This post contains none of them.

    • Seb

Kind of like when you’re unsure someone is crying or laughing.

    • izmerul

less stupid? Seraphon sounds like the name of an old douchy french buttler

      • 1816186

sounds alright to me… Seraphon a mixture of angelic and lizard like terms, its unique enough that you will not be confused when buying their products… either way, you clearly have something lodged deep within you, clearly you are favored of slaanesh.

    • crusader284

But names are such a big deal! Right… RIGHT?

    • benn grimm

Yeah, why aren’t people moaning about all the real problems…like the ones you have with it…whatever they are…?

    • Shardak

Lizardmen at was at least a sort of description for what you were getting in for. It said to you: If you collect this army you should know that guys are Lizards. Of course the truth was much cooler – they were Dinosaur men riding on different kinds of Dinosaurs, but “Dinosaur men riding on different kinds of Dinosaurs” is sort of a mouthful.

      • AircoolUK

Hey Dawg… I heard you like dinosaurs so etc.. etc…

  • Seb

    Valor- err Seraphon’s attack..!

    • Retconned Legion

      Everything is better with Dino-riders.

    • JoeofDoom

I really want this to be the AoS Lizardmen.

      • Dennis J. Pechavar

I actually would be tempted to buy if they were Dino Riders.

    • euansmith

It looks like an illustration from on of those Creationist “text books”.

  • MRex21

What’s with the awful name changes?

    • Charax

Can’t trademark Dwarfs, Wood Elves, Treemen etc. Can trademark Sylvaneth, Duardin etc.

      • Dennis J. Pechavar

        So are dwarfs now squats?

    • An_Enemy

GW has made an entire business out of ripping off other IPs, they had someone do it to them, they sued, kind of lost, and now they want to ensure the next time they sue they’ll have a stronger case.

      • benn grimm

I’d say after spending all this money replacing IP, they’re somewhat spoiling for a fight. Anyway its irrelevant, they just gave all their competitor free reign to use the names of armies they built up and promoted for years. All thses silly names just make it easier for lil independents to produce models for WFB, which is going nowhere.

        • jeff white

          wfb? where?

          • benn grimm

Right behind you. No, over there, no look, just over there, yeah just over by the Blood bowl. You see it now? Awesome 🙂

    • Katharon

      They’re copyright-able.

      • Jonathan Lowbridge

        Nope.

        • euansmith

They are remarkably trade markable 😀

    • standardleft

I think they are names given to the other races by the sigmarites.

      Also protect ip names

      • 1816186

I do noth think people really know how IP works

        • euansmith

          This is how IP works…

  • Katharon

Oh, and looks how they took Space Marines creation into AoS!

  • David Leimbach

Does this more firmly put AoS in the WH40k universe? I find it less of a stretch if lets say, some Imperial ship crashes on the surface. Perhaps just on the edge of the known 40k universe.

    • Retconned Legion

I’d say the opposite. We’ve got gods wandering around that are actually people, not sentient warp storms. We’ve got nine realms of reality that stretch out for infinity. There’s no surface for the ship to crash onto, because there’s no world as we know it.

If i had to make the two fit, i’d say the entirety of AoS is happening within the Warp.

      • Stormxlr

so Primarchs, 13th company and the Co can join the party?

        • 1816186

could they do it before because as I recall the warp has existed in both universes… remember WHFB was set on a planet… heck back in the day people had theories that WHFB is happening in the same 40k universe just on an undiscovered planet.

          • JoeofDoom

It was a pocket of the warp, but that was a very long time ago. Back when the Lost and the Damned and Slaves to Darkness were the rulebooks, and your Chaos Lord in fantasy had power armor and a meltagun.

  • Jared Swenson

The way I see it is the servants of the Old Ones finally ascended after the destruction of the old world, and are now Daemons of Order. They are not celestial beings or angels (that’s Sigmar’s realm) but manifestations the same. I’m really liking it.

    • AircoolUK

They do seem to work in the same way as daemons. They also have the same ‘nails’ bravery.

      • hirvaan

aaand they do have Daemon “keyword” (special rule? or sth)

        • AircoolUK

          Nope because they’re not daemons.

          RUN! IT’S GODZILLA!

          – It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws – it’s not.

STILL! WE SHOULD RUN LIKE IT IS GODZILLA! (Though it isn’t).

          • Kelshin

You misunderstand, he isn’t asking. They ARE daemons now, in the new rules.

          • AircoolUK

Oh yeah. Huh… don’t listen to me, I know nowt 🙂

  • Unless if I’m missing something it doesn’t mention space pyramids above…it says the Seraphon are creatures of celestial magic. Maybe they don’t need the space pyramids anymore…

    • Retconned Legion

      Everybody needs space pyramids.

      • 1816186

do you think seraphon will get a special ability if the players wear a pyramid hat

        • Firefly

You mean there are other Lizardmen players that don’t ALREADY wear pyramid hats!?

          ….

          oh. :/

    • 1816186

they use pyramids and most likely use magic to teleport, i would actually prefer space pyramids but there is no space in fantasy anymore… just war

  • Bobsyouruncle

It just feels like GW are flapping about like a loose sail trying to cling onto their market in increasingly desperate ways . If they had got their product out there to where kids could actually encounter it , kept the dungeon crawls and low model count skirmish games to allow easy progression onto the larger games , set sensible market appropriate prices to their product , not worried about what the soccer moms thought of the IP and let their sculpt quality do the talking allot of this drastic hack job on the game and copy write issues would not have been required .

  • kaptinscuzgob

‘Seraphon’ sounds like a name that Sigmarites have given the lizardmen, rather than anything the lizardmen would call themselves. makes sense, given that the lizards arent exactly talkative

    • 1816186

do you think lizardmen called themselves lizardmen before?

      • izmerul

        Lizardmen call themselves SsssssSssssssssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssss

        • Firefly

          Keywords: “ORDER,” “TSSSSSS,” “SERAPHON,” “RAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRRRRR”

    • Firefly

It makes me worry about how our alignment has changed since 8th. 🙁 I liked our true-neutral feel… not really caring what happened in the world, so long as we could kill ourselves some rats & Chaos. Now we’re… good… *shudders*

      • kaptinscuzgob

        lizardmen were always like that
youre Order now, like you always were
but “Order” does not mean “Good”
youll kill anything that has even the slightest taint of Chaos

        • Firefly

I know. I guess what I’m getting at is that I hope we aren’t benevolent all of the sudden. We were kinda jerks in the old world, and I’d like to keep it that way.

  • AircoolUK

Now I’ve got a good reason to buy some Lizardmen. Like the models, but as per WHFB, didn’t want to buy, build and paint a whole army.

  • AircoolUK

    Seraph:

an angelic being, regarded in traditional Christian angelology as belonging to the highest order of the ninefold celestial hierarchy, associated with light, ardor, and purity.

    • benn grimm

Saraph; from the noun sarap; viper or seraph, also from the verb sarap; to burn.

      • standardleft

Syrup: a thick, sweet liquid made by dissolving sugar in boiling water, often used for preserving fruit.

        • AircoolUK

Sauron: a big evil eye thing from a book that’s way too long and boring.

        • benn grimm

          And yummy with peanut butter…)

      • 1816186

I just realised, GW should have added “ae” to all the name… seraephon, daemon, sigmaerites, dwaerfs… 😀 would be distinct enough and not get ye old hammer players panties twised

        • benn grimm

That would be Lizaerdmaen then wouldn’t it? 😉

          • 1816186

            yup 😀 sorry… Mr Grim… have a number… 45

          • benn grimm

Yeah I’m good, but thanks anyway.

          • 1816186

what about 69? I got all the numbers, just tell me which one you want

          • benn grimm

I can see that, but no its fine, I’m sure you’ll need them more than me.

          • 1816186

            🙁 and I thought I made a friend…

          • benn grimm

Am I being trolled here? If so this is the most surreal, gentle trolling I’ve had in at least a couple of days… I get it, you got my number, awesome.

          • 1816186

            so we are friends?

          • benn grimm

I get it, you recognise the profile pic and you feel like you know me, I’ve heard this is a common problem with nutters on the internet; over-familiarity. Let me make it plain; I’m actually not really a comic book character! Astonishing I know.

          • 1816186

I know that… I just want to be your friend… the real you, the man behind the avatar, is it so hard for you to open up to a stranger? to embrace your inner friendship? to spoon me when we are alone together? I think I am not asking much…

          • benn grimm

You’re not creeping me out, y’know that right? You’re just making a bit of a muppet of yourself. But by all means continue with your weird creepy trolling.

          • 1816186

I am not trying too creep you out, I am really trying to be friendly, I like making A friend, can we be friends… PLEEEASE.

  • StingrayP226

I kind of wish the Sylvaneth included Wood Elves, or something similar, but did not focus on them. They were just another race who fell within the Sylvaneth whole. That or some other race… could be interesting. Not sure why but the Sylvaneth interest me the most…

    • euansmith

GW’s Dryad models are really cool.

      • 1816186

yup, some of my favs, I actually always wanted to field and all tree/nature army but WFB limited my options, in AoS I can literally do that, and add a few trolls and nude skavens and beastmen as the animal forces 😀

        • Slaanesh_Devotee

I’m not entirely sure tree spirits much care for animals born out of Chaos 😛

          They can be quite dangerous~

          • 1816186

of course, but its easier to convert a bunch of beastmen to look like forest monsters than it is to take wood elves and make them look like beastmen… conversion are obviously a must but its a lot easier now to convert and apply to your army in AoS than in previous games especially since you can now use the beastmen rules without having to use wood elves ones, lets be honest, wood leves sucked apart from shooting… this way you can make a wood elves army that does not suck.

take a mostly tree army… add a few skaven eshin and convert them, say they are “forest vermin” add a few lizardmen units (those blowpipe skinks, call them forest lizzies) add a couple of minotaurs for some heavy hitting, make them “cowmataurs” etc… the ability to mix and match units is just amazing imo

  • hamilton geyser

Watching the bat reps….This game will be dead before the next 40k product comes out.

    • jeff white

      yep.

    • WHAT THE HELLS GOING ON?!

yeah completely, thats exactly why everyone at my towns club, now with several ‘retired’ old school gamers that have been drawn back in because of the rules ethos, are playing the hell out of it at every opportunity and having a whale of a time….

      • 1816186

that is me, I have not played warhammer/40k in YEARS (stopped some very long time ago) came back only Because of AoS… love the new lore so far, love the idea of multiple gods, love the idea of planes (makes more sense than khermi fighting with wood elves etc) and the minis make me moist like Benn Grimm

        • WHAT THE HELLS GOING ON?!

i could give or take the lore, as will largely be playing legacy games in the old world, but once people get the way the rules set works its just so much fun to play, and games have become something to enjoy again and shift focus on to reason for battles and cinematics rather than listbuilding and just about points. strategy is in deployment and positioning during what is now a more fluid and dynamic game. not everyones cup of tea i know, i was fuming when end times khaine came out and it looked like woodelves were done for- but now, its nice to be positive 🙂

          • 1816186

rules have never been an issue with me, me and the people I play with always played for fun, the hobby was for us was collecting and painting and comparing and gaming dead last, sure gaming is fun, get a big table, get all the minis, but after a few beers you kinda stop playing and pretend the cat walking across the table is a Tyranid mutant or your boyfriend comes back from work and says you are wasting time so you pretend he is the servant of slaanesh

      • hamilton geyser

        give it a month

    • AircoolUK

Because they really represent the true game, and not just a test of the core rules with models just plonked on the table.

  • James Small

Where does it say anything about Lilleath and the survivors in Haven? All I see is a mention of Allarielle and her soul pods.

  • D_Ork

Does the lore provide any rationale for a Stormcast vs Stormcast game? I have to think that will happen quite a bit… 40K has the Heresy and the general idea that SMs go rebel and/or fight among themselves quite a bit, but that seems unlikely here, with Sigmar walking around…

    • EndreFodstad

Time to duke it out on the training field? My Rebel vs Rebel Armada games are all tactical simulator ones 🙂

    • 1816186

yes, one of them got corrupted by a mind controlling demon or some magical entity and the other ones are fighting to free them, or them became evil as the energy inside them got infected by daemons or they are training or sigmar got bored

    • standardleft

I think it would just be minor faction quarrels. They are sort of humans after all. Old hatreds die hard.

A resurrected bretonian hero who’s family was butchered by a imperial hero in his early campaigns might duke it out for honour.

    • AircoolUK

They’re Immortal so they could just be wargames or training exercises.

  • Matt

Now if only we had decent rules to support this fluff…

  • Kevin Maloney

So….this all just confirms that Stormcast Eternals are Fantasy Space Marines?

    Yyyyyyyeah nope.

    • Cobalt

And the Emperor Sigmar took the greatest of heroes, and armored them with the finest of anrmor and the strongest of weapons.
Then he said “And They Shall Know No Fear.”
And he divided them into Chapters, er… Armies.
And the armies were the red-clad Bloody Aengles, the green-clad Dark Aengles, and the overly obnoxious, er… zealous blue-clad Ultra Sigmarites.

  • Necky

EW…. please add another link to lexicanum. 40k, WHFB, and AoS. dont kill the WHFB lore, like GW wants to. F those guys.

  • Drew_Da_Destroya

So, the Stormcast are literally just Space Marines now, without the guns? They’re the exact same narrative.

    • Cobalt

Well…. we haven’t been told yet that the Emperor Sigmar first created twenty powerful Primarchs, er… Lord Celestants that were taken by the Chaos Gods and sacttered thoughout the seven mortal realms, or that he made the Stormcast from the lesser versions of the spells that he used to make the Primarchs, er… Lord Celestants.
Or that his Grand Crusade to free the enslaved kingdoms in the seven mortal realms will uncover the Lost Prim, er… Celestants, whom will be reuninted with their Legions, er… Stormcast Armies. Or how the greatest Celestant of all, Orus, gets corrupted by Chaos and turns fully half the Leigions, er… Stormcast Armies to evil…
Did I just spoil the whole new fantasy plotline?

  • BrianDavion

wow the stormcast eternals really ARE just Fantasy Marines

  • ieyke

    Screw this.
Just let 40k have the Old Ones/Slann/Lizardmen back and then I don’t ever have to pay attention to this one Emperor-forsaken little Fantasy planet anymore.

Bonus points if they migrate Nagash and the Vampire Counts to 40k too, somehow. 40k needs some proper vampires and Gothic Horror stuff.
