The Hive Mind HUNGERS – it’s a trip down memory lane, BoLS style. It’s Codex Tyranids 2nd Edition!

Hey BoLS Readers! AdamHarry here and I hope you’re all gassed up because we’re about to hit 88 mph – and you KNOW what that mean! It’s time to fire-up the Way-Back Time Vault and take a look at a classic: Codex Tyranids 2nd Edition!

Codex: Tyranids

This is one of my favorite codexes of all time. It could be the rose colored glasses I’m wearing but many of the models in this book were what got me interested in the universe of the Grim Dark – so yes, I’m biased, but at least I’m honest about it! The Tyranids were the first truly “Alien” race (and with good reason…take a look at those hormagaunts to see where they were getting their “inspiration” from). While the big bugs may have been (mostly) bi-pedal the Tyranids had a look unlike any other race in the game. At the time, the idea of completely organic ships, weapons and other ‘technology’ was bleeding edge sci-fi territory. This may be a trope now – but years later its still cool.

Tyranids-2nd-Edition

As a kid I loved watching the Terribly Awesome Dune movie (Picard in a crazy personal force field?! HECK YA). When Paul summoned the Worms I got chills. It’s something about the Tyrannic Aesthetic that always takes me back to Arrakis – Maybe it’s the chitin plating, maybe it’s the ex-skeletons or maybe its the idea of Giant Worm/Bug Aliens that have crazy mind-altering powers…But what ever it is this codex really stuck with me. Oh and the crazy, vivid colors probably had something to do with it as well.
