Blood Rage is a Viking board game created by acclaimed game designer Eric M. Lang. In this fast-paced yet highly strategic game, 2 to 4 players take control of Viking clans, invading, pillaging and battling in a quest to gain as much glory as possible before Ragnarök finally consumes the land!

From Guillotine Games, the studio that brought you Zombicide, comes the ultimate Viking saga. The game’s striking visuals are a combination of Adrian Smith’s highly evocative artwork, and Mike McVey’s amazingly detailed miniatures. Blood Rage comes with 46 pre-assembled miniatures, including some huge and impressive legendary monsters.

In Blood Rage, each player controls their own Viking clan’s warriors, leader, and ship. Ragnarök has come, and it’s the end of the world! It’s the Vikings’ last chance to go down in a blaze of glory and secure their place in Valhalla at Odin’s side! For a Viking there are many pathways to glory. You can invade and pillage the land for its rewards, crush your opponents in epic battles, fulfill quests, increase your clan’s stats, or even die gloriously either in battle or from Ragnarök, the ultimate inescapable doom.

Players must choose their strategies carefully during the draft phase, but also be ready to adapt and react to their opponents’ strategies as the action phase unfolds. Battles are decided not only by the strength of the figures involved, but also by cards played in secret. By observing your opponent’s actions and allegiances to specific gods, you may predict what card they are likely to play, and plan accordingly. Winning battles is not always the best course of action, as the right card can get you even more rewards by being crushed. The only losing strategy in Blood Rage is to shy away from battle and a glorious death!

It’s fast, brutal and then it’s DONE – just like a Viking Raid! Blood Rage is a really great game that lives up to the Ragnarök. Incorporating Viking Myths and Legends into a strategic and brutal board game, it’s no wonder this game was such a hit on Kickstarter. Once the game is fully shipped to all it’s backers I’m sure it’s going to show up in stores. But you can always check their site or the CMON store when it goes live for retail.

The bits are very nice; especially the giants. I would love for someone to do an entire range like that. The game itself is good fun too. Particularly when you are trying to work out if your opponent wants to win a battle and gain some glory or maybe lose and die and possibly gain even more glory through a special ability. The rush to pile in to a realm that is about to be destroyed is also fun.

I really hope they someday sell the models separately. My buddy sculpted the giants, troll and sea creature and I would love to buy them and paint them up but I am not sure I need the whole game…

      • euansmith

Please say thanks to your buddy from me. The minis are excellent. There is another giant in one of the add-ons that is lovely too… I think I might be drifting towards painting 50mm minis 🙂

        • amaximus167

I will! I believe he also sculpted that Giant and Fenris. He is doing some of the 7 Deadly Sins minis as well. It is pretty awesome as Adrian Smith is one of my favorite fantasy artists!

          • euansmith

Cool. The Fenris is a great great big wolf… and I might have backed 7 Deadly Sins too… I need to get on top of my kickstarter addiction… 😀

          • amaximus167

I manage to always be in a place where I cannot commit to the kickstarters whenever one I am interested in pops up.

Fenris is bloody awesome! I keep seeing him sitting on my shelf calling for me to paint, but I have soemthing l have something like 60 models in front of him in the production line… The one slightly dissapointing model is the wolf man, considering he might just have the most badass rules! But maybe I like that he’s so simple and so badass…. haven’t yet decided….

Looks interesting! When I get time I’ll watch the vids

    • euansmith

It is a fun game. We played with three players which allowed for a lot of mucking peoples plans up. It is odd to play a game in which you are often as happy to see your little guys go to their death and survive… very Viking…

  • Iain ‘Casper’ Davies

It’s a great game! I got it maybe a month ago, and have played I think 6 games so far… First time 2 player, and honestly, it’s a bit easy to dominate… but every other time 4 or 5, and that’s when the real fun comes out! Fully recommend it! I think I’m gonna continue at this rate until I get my zombiecide: black plague!

    • euansmith

Black Plague… That is going to be a huge box of stuff.

      • Iain ‘Casper’ Davies

        I cannot wait!

A friend was in on the Mantic Dungeon Saga kickstarter and heard that some folks who had pledged for everything plus extras were going to be getting packages weighting 14kg… 31lbs!
