On Saturday December 12 and Sunday December 13 the Battlefront design studio in New Zealand will be having a weekend-long event to celebrate the launch of Team Yankee.

They will be turning the Team Yankee website into a live blog, featuring photos, model assembly videos, gaming, rules discussions with Phil Yates, and an interview with novel author HW Coyle.

Plus they will be giving away prizes, including models that will not be released until next year.

You can see all the action at or on the Team Yankee Facebook group.

And you can follow @TeamYankeeGame on Twitter and Instagram.

Team Yankee

It’s 1985 and the Cold War just got hot!

Team Yankee, a heavy combat team of M1 Abrams tanks and M113 armoured personnel carriers, faces a Soviet invasion of West Germany. Outnumbered and outgunned, Captain Sean Bannon and his men will have to fight hard and they’ll have to fight smart if they are going to survive.

Lt. Colonel Yuri Potecknov’s motor rifle battalion is preparing to execute its mission in the scientific manner that he had been taught at the Frunze Military Academy and used in Afghanistan. Victory today will bring the world proletarian revolution that much closer.

Based on the book written by Harold Coyle in 1987, Team Yankee brings the conflict that simmered throughout the Cold War to life in a game by Battlefront Miniatures where you command your troops in miniature on a realistic battlefield.

Team Yankee is Battlefront’s new modern era game full of awesome minis from Soviet and American infantry, armor, to helicopters and even close support aircraft such as the A-10 and SU-25. Check it out!

It’s World War III…but in 1985!

I love the Hinds and A-10s.
The, imho, boring play with infantry made me leave FoW though. And I guess its a part of Team Yankee as well.
So not my cup of tea.
But I hope this game does well so perhaps we can see some other alternative games from Battlefront in the future.

  • “Team Yankee” is one of my favorite books!

  • Kenneth Portner

    HOT!!! HUGE!!! FANTASTIC!!!! ZOWIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Severius_Tolluck

Well I liked FoW, ifnantry do dominate with their 3+ saves and as long as they can assault something it usually goes down quick, even tanks. I feel many vehicles feel way too week. However haven’t looked at Team Yankee. Only thing is, why do they keep pumping out all these other eras instead of you know, finishing ww2, or doing the pacific? They seem to be all over these days. They may stretch themselves too thin.

    • Manwiththedogs

Pacific is coming very soon and Team Yankee is a different game, streamlined modernised version of Flames. Looks like a very good ruleset. Hanging out for the Germans though, want me some Leopards!

  • Victor Hartmann

    Loved the book!

The models look good and I’ll look over the rules. Not sure if I’ll jump into it though. Much as enjoyed the book, finding time for another hobby game is tough. I’ll talk to the guys and see who else is interested.

I see Valkyrie or storm talon conversions

    • Niklas Persson

That would make for some really small Valkyries or Storm Talons.

      • Shawn

Yeah, I didn’t know if the scale was the same as FoW and didn’t really pay attention to the pics or game. I just saw the planes and thought cool. Those would be great for 40k conversions. I guess I could cannabilize them for small tail wings or extensions, guns and maybe engine bits! LOL.

maybe you can find a 1:48 Hind somewhere.

  • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Are there Brits/Germans in this or is it just USA vs USSR?

    • Manwiththedogs

There will be other nations next year if I remember correctly, but the initial release is USA vs USSR.
