The Tabletop Spotlight is on: Cube Quest – Clash for the Crown!

Hello again BoLS Readers! I was a little surprised at the game our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy had brought over. It was another Dexterity based game like Terror in Meeple City. To be honesty this isn’t a genre of games I was all that familiar with other than a classic like Jenga these type of games aren’t something I play a lot of. However, taking a look through the contents, I am starting to see the appeal!

Cube Quest is a pretty straightforward game. You’re flicking different types of cubes at your opponents cubes in what is basically a “last man standing” type game. There is some strategic play involved as not all the cubes are the same. Some have better defense (based on facing) and some are just “throw-away” cubes best served as “ammo” if you will. The entire point of the game is to knock out the opposing “king” cube. It’s a really simple game and it’s geared mostly for kids and families. As a two player game it’s also very quick. It only takes about 15 minutes to get a game in – including setup.

The components are pretty durable – as you would expect. The cubes are designed to smash into each other after all. The play mats are nice, rubber mats as well so you can protect your table (or other playing surface) from any scratches or dents. It’s a nice touch!

So if you have younger kids and are looking to introduce them to a light strategy game with some hand-eye coordination required check out Cube Quest!

Mobilize your fingers for the ultimate six-sided skirmish! Field an army of cubes and then place them strategically on the board. Each cube has special powers: Strikers and Skulks are strong on the attack, while Grunts are better for defense. Once your cubes are in position, sound the trumpets and let the flicking begin! Try to knock your opponent’s king off the board, aiming carefully not to get caught behind enemy lines. Triumph in your quest and crown yourself the Cube King!
