Deathwatch: Overkill is two days away! Today we look at the stats of the Marines, foul Genestealer Cult Leaders and the beautiful board!

Welcome to Deathwatch: Overkill Week here on BoLS!  The fat lady is singing. Today we wrap up our week long look into GW’s latest boxed boardgame. Here’s a look at some of our past coverage if you need to catch up:

Deathwatch Overkill: Day 1 Unboxing the Game

Deathwatch Overkill: Day 2 Deathwatch Minis

Deathwatch Overkill: Day 3 Genestealer Cult Minis

Deathwatch Overkill: Day 4 The Rulebook

Today we wade into Deathwatch Overkill characters, both noble and wretched, plus take a look at the dark creaking environments the game is played in.  Let’s get started!

Characters & Cards

DW-BoLS-Cards01

Here we see the unharmed sides of the Deathwatch Marines as well as the three Genestealer Cult leaders. Take a close look to get an idea of the different abilities, strengths and weaknesses of each.  You will have to buy the game to see the other sides…

And here is a small sample of the Genestealer Cult Broodmind Cards with some reinforcements and gambits.  This is less than half the deck, so the game holds many more surprises and nasties for the Deathwatch player to deal with.

The Board

Now to take a look at the beautiful thick card board tiles.  Each of these is broken into “zones” with slightly raised edges so you can feel the edges between each.  Note the black areas are “abyss” which can be jumped over at very short ranges (about an inch) by brave models who might take an unfortunate tumble…

DW-BoLS-Board08

The left board is almost entirely blank except for those two small ledges.  7 zones on the right section.

Gotta love the Cult symbols worked into the floor grates.  Note the 4-armed emperor painted in red on the right tile section.

DW-BoLS-Board06

I just love the garish colors.  It’s creepy down here in the mines…

DW-BoLS-Board05

Left – a very nice throne room – fit for a fat Patriarch. On the right – it looks like some folks are going to be making some risky jumps to make it to the other side.

I left these two images touching so you can see how cool they look when matching tiles line up.  Gotta love the cult symbol graffiti and the defaced Aquilla on the left.

DW-BoLS-Board02

Those look like power generators on the left, and more chasms for jumping on the right.

DW-BoLS-Board01

I don’t know what that thing is on the left, but It looks dangerous.  On the right – more evidence that Genestealers prefer green light bulbs. Remember that at gift-giving time.

At Last, the End

DW-BoLS-Accessory01

For your last image – the last thing at the bottom of the box.  It’s not a GW boardgame without dice, a pile of bases and a unique measuring device (it’s clear plastic).
