The Tabletop Spotlight is on: For Crown & Kingdom!

Hello again BoLS Readers – If you’re like me you’ve got friends who aren’t really what you’d call “gamers” – sure they play games but they may not play as often or as much. Maybe it takes them a few extra rounds to really get the hang of a game before they can start to “play” for real. Well no worries! Our Friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy have the one for your non-gaming friends: For Crown & Kingdom!

In this game for 2-4 players from Rio Grande Games, you are a Duke or Duchess and the King is on his deathbed. You and your agents must move around the country (shaped like a round pizza) to gather support for your claim to the throne. The first player to gather support from all the territories wins! Sounds simple right? Well there is one small hiccup to your plans for total domination: The other players! Those agents you have each have special abilities and they like to mess with other agents as well much as they like to help you out. It’s actually a pretty solid strategy game of resource management and worker placement.

But the best laid plans…can always be interrupted by your opponents. I think this is where the game really shines. The interplay between the agents is what makes it interesting – otherwise it’s just a race to see who can move the fastest. The board also has some fun side effects that you can take advantage of as well – so there is a lot more to this game than first glance. The components themselves are also durable and ready for a lot of replays so be prepared for some fun family game nights with this one, too! So go check out:

For Crown & Kingdom $39.95

The king lies weakened on his deathbed. His Majesty has but days to live, and has failed to produce an heir. Any of the local barons could be next in line, as long as they are able to gain the approval of the people. Each has set off on a heroic campaign around the kingdom. They vie for fame, for glory, and for the crown!

Do you have what it takes to rally the Country to your side and become the next ruler?
