The Sons of Russ take on The Greater Good – who will take home victory?

In this batrep – from Geeks 40K – Ulrich the Slayer and a well armed pack of Wolves take revenge on an army of Tau. The models are gorgeous in this one. Take a look…

Alright armchair tacticians – how would you have handled that battle?

  • Andreas Peahc

    I’m guessing Tau wins.

If I’m correct that Tau wins I would have handled that battle by starring into my opponents eyes and said I forfeit, then I would pack my models and go home.

    • nurglitch

I’m guessing that these guys are better sportsmen then, since they’re willing to risk losing.

      • Andreas Peahc

Well for my defence I’m an idiot who really like using Rough Riders who are the “lordlings” of my army.

And it does not help that in the places I play “that guy” are always using Tau/Eldar. Weirdly enough they don’t seem to use Spess mehreens, but that could be because Space Marines are not as godlike as Tau or Eldar.

Dark Eldar/Ork player please come back from the death you were so much fun to play with.

        • Keaton

The Space Marine book is better than Tau, and second only to maybe Eldar.

          • Andreas Peahc

How much did you spend on your Tau army?

          • Keaton

I play Tau. I don’t know how much I’ve spent on the army over the past 5 years or so, but its a lot. Its an expensive hobby if you haven’t heard.

This isn’t a Tau fanboy opinion. Eldar, Space Marine, Tau are considered the most powerful competitive codexs for the Cheese Lord competitive players, in that order.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience at your local gamestore, but I wasn’t there and I didn’t play you. I’d suggest just not playing with people who want to bring 3 riptides and 2 stormsurges to a 1500 point game.

Thats the great part about 40k, if you stop playing people bringing garbage lists, their only options are to stop making garbage cheese lists or stop playing. 40k can do a lot more self policing then we tend to do atm.

          • Andreas Peahc

I just did a long reply to you but it seems to need to be approved by the mods.

          • Andreas Peahc

Let me also just reply with something the mods removed.

I tend to be a cheeky breeki with Tau players since most Tau players i encounter are the type of people I don’t enjoy. Might as well get some entertainment of them by pushing their buttons.
At least that way we both get some enjoyment from those few battles I decide to stay and play with them since every other player decided they don’t want to play anymore because of the Tau/Eldar WAAC guys.

And most of the Ork players were old and died of various reasons.

          • Skathrex

I can see where your Standpoint comes from, I have a Tau army as a secondary (played it 4 times since 7th) and may get a bit defensive at times.
I have postet this in numerous ocasions, whenever people say Tau are worth then SM.
Tau have a smaler variance of powerlvl then SM.
You can build a very Bad SM List very quickly. To do so with Tau is a lot Harder.
And Tau are easy to play, hard to master, which means, everyone can play Tau somewhat good.

          • Brettila

That crap is all anyone does, though. The most ridiculously powerful shooting army gets to shoot twice?! I don’t even play against these guys anymore. I play this game for fun and to relieve stress; NOT create stress.

          • Keaton

Tau are not much more powerful than Necrons or Eldar at shooting, and are way more limited than either. That said, if you see a guy with 3 riptides, its probably best to just walk away.

    • LordRao

The Tau do win, predictably, which is even admitted by one of the two players, who also says he didn’t enjoy the game. There’s literally nothing left on the table except a whole lot of battle suits.

      • Andreas Peahc

Sadly the mods don’t seem to like anyone talking critically about Tau, since my godlike post about my self hatred and the aura of stench that Tau players Ooze out like they are followers of Nurgle did not get approved.

        • LordRao

Yes, the Force is weak in some of them. Don’t get me started on which of my posts have been removed… Ah well, yet another nail in the BoLS coffin.

  • Andrew Thomas

More Stormwolves, some spoilers, like Lone Wolves and Fenrisian Wolves, and more mobile anti-tank. Leave the other point-sinks at home, especially the Land-Raider and Wulfen, as Tau run too much ranged high Strength AP 4, Plasma, and Rail Cannon for them to be worth it, especially with almost no redundancy in the SW list. Get Air Superiority and ID from the Stormwolves, lock’em with Lone Wolves and Iron Priests, then use Wolf Guard bikes and Hunters to claim the Relic. Threat saturation and locking up reserves is key.

    • Keaton

Woah, ideas to improve your list and your play instead of just Tau bashing? That won’t fly here!

      • Andrew Thomas

        lol.

      • Andreas Peahc

Why is it that Tau “bashing” gets removed while comments like this one stays up?

    • Andreas Peahc

No need to say some spoilers since everyone already knew the outcome from the matchup. But you are right about more bikes could have given the wolf player atleast 4.6% chance of winning

      • Andrew Thomas

spoilers, aka chaff, i.e.: stuff that needs to die such that your other stuff may yet live.

      • manouel35

        pffff you are pathetic….

      • Skathrex

Just look at the other comments here, even SW Players aknowledge how bad the SW list was, and how he played. a

  • Drasek

Pretty bad when the guy filming the video says he didn’t enjoy the game.

  • Pascalnz

the wolf player pretty much did everything he could to hand the game to the tau player. From list building to tactics. It wasn’t even a hard tau list. 1 riptide no storm surges.

    • chaotichris

Exactly my thought. And to think that he has already played against the same list.

      • nurglitch

Some people are just terrible at 40k.

    • manouel35

this wolf player made a bad list….

  • Raphael Lüthi

I guess this battle leader needs to be brought back to the the Fang for some retraining. Droppods???, The Deathpack? , Landspeeders?, Setting up proper cover/ sight blocking Terrain?. The Tau deserved to win this one..

    • manouel35

You’re right ! I play tau and SW and this game made me cry…
Two things in this battle report :
First : the tau list very very very balanced and not so powerful !
And the SW list is so bad ><,
why play a so expensive flyer (and against tau !) !!! for nothing, and where are the drop pods !
Why play ulrik when you can play psykers !
Why play 2 pack of 5 grey hunters… when you can play pack of 8 wolf claws in a dropped for nothing and crush tau in a close attack ..

It proves that this player don't know his army, against this list, a SW list with thunderwolves and wulfens should have won easily…

and he had back luck also… first turn : LR is destroyed, 2 thunderwolves killed etc… whoah

  • Kolobius

I play as Tau against Space Wolves all the time and every battle is a strategic challenge, and I love the challenge. My SW opponent knows he is facing Tau and plays to my weaknesses i.e. he takes a lot of assaulting units and lone wolves to lock me in assault so I can’t shoot. I know when I face him he is going to take a lot of wolves and Thunderwolf Calvary with a few choppy units that get in my face fast.
