War Zone Fenris: Lying In Flames Arrives

Chaos strikes at the heart of the Space Wolves home and they are mistrusted by all. Everything the Space Wolves know is Lying in Flames.

We’ve all read Curse of the Wulfen and want to know how it ends.  The two part Tau series was separated by only 3 weeks, but GW/Black Library is taking the “scenic route” this year with the story.

The events that happen after Curse of the Wulfen are being written up as a series of EIGHT parts called:

Legacy or Russ (Subscription) $22.99

You will be able to buy each part individually, and the first part is free.  The entire series will be released from now until October, so we may have to wait a bit to see how it all turns out.  Here’s the latest volume just out:

Part 3: Lying in Flames $4.99

Daemons rampage across the planets and moons of the Fenris system, and the Space Wolves find themselves hard-pressed to contain the attackers, let alone hunt for their missing Chapter Master, Logan Grimnar. To add to their troubles, a crusade force led by Azrael of the Dark Angels, and backed up by the Inquisition, hangs in judgment above Midgardia. The Space Wolves stand accused of harbouring mutants among their ranks – a terrible crime in the eyes of the Imperium.

Written by Robbie MacNiven

Part 2: The Young Wolf’s Return $4.99

As the Fenris System is beset on all fronts by a vast daemonic incursion, the Space Wolves fight with redoubled savagery and heroism. A conflict of such magnitude cannot remain unnoticed by the wider Imperium however, and over a dozen other Space Marine Chapters, the Dark Angels foremost amongst them, stand ready to enforce the ultimate sanction against those planets drowning under the endless waves of warp-spawn. Worse, the Great Wolf himself, Logan Grimnar, is still missing. Will salvation arrive in time for the Sons of Russ, or will their Chapter suffer a blow from which they might never recover?

Written by Robbie MacNiven

Part 1: The Lost King (FREE)

The Fenris system, home of the savage and feral Space Wolves Chapter, is overrun by the forces of Chaos. On planets and moons armies of daemons manifest to enact a campaign of slaughter, and the Wolves are forced to defend themselves on all fronts. As the fighting escalates, all contact with Logan Grimnar is lost. Can the Space Wolves find their missing Chapter Master, or is he dead, as the daemons claim? And if he has fallen, what will stand between the Space Wolves and absolute destruction?

~ Anyone want to lay odds on Russ’ return before it’s all over?

  • Painjunky

“Will salvation arrive in time for the Sons of Russ, or will their Chapter suffer a blow from which they might never recover?”

    Yes and no…
    They’ll be fine…
Probably even stronger, tougher and more wolfy wolf than ever before!

  • Darth Bumbles

If the climax is round two of Bjorn versus the Inquisition than I’ll be happy.

    • Muninwing

      “what a show…”

  • Charon

Spoiler: Slavation will arrive in time, plot armor is strong.
And as it is 8 Space Wolves stories, Chaos is once again degraded to the role of the comic book villain.

    • Jonathan B.

“And they would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for those meddling kids and their dumb dog.”

      • Muninwing

        the bluescribes and karanak?

    • Chris. K Cook

You are complaining that the bad guys are the bad guys in a book staring the good guys?

Maybe I should stop playing Chaos. I’m clearly not whinny and entitled enough.

      • Charon

There are no good guys in 40k. Thats what the setting is all about.
The “good guys” always win is a conept that got incredible boring. Plot armor on space marines makes it utterly predictable.
Maybe you should try argue your point first before resorting to insults.

        • Keaton

They just killed off a character with a model, plot armor only goes so far.

        • General_Seedykay

Damn right, lose the moral ambiguity and the universe loses its appeal.

  • Dan Hermod Anderson

Quick question – im a New player that got into the hobby with The release of the wulfen models- i know that GW has released a slew of new stuff with 7ed for The wolves but is it foolish of me to expect more releases for The space wolves now? id love more stuff to build!

    • Charles Covar

If we don’t get a release for what they’ve been teasing at in the series I will be incredibly shocked.

      • Paulo Picolomini

I know that I will regret asking this but, “What have they been teasing at in the series that may make it into miniature form?”

        • Charles Covar

Leman Russ, although he’s apparently been affected by the flaw in the gene seed.

          • Chris. K Cook

Russ or any other Primarch won’t be coming back. We may get rules for a few of the Wolf Lords and maybe some other characters featured.

  • vlad78

10000 years after the heresy, no helmet is worn by the space wolves anymore. This alone confirms their fall into heresy and justifies the use of an exterminatus upon Fenris. (note that their wolfy poneys also aggravated their case)

Indeed there are no wolves on Fenris… anymore.

  • Sonic tooth

Space wolves are a whole new level of cheese

    • Jared van Kell

I doubt the Minotaurs would have an easy time of it. In fact I would say they would be the ones coming off worse.

      • Josh Sands

Given that the Wolves were literally made to be Marine killers, I’ll bet anything the Minotaurs are based on Wolves geneseed.

        • Chris. K Cook

Nope, they are clearly 21st Founding World eaters Geneseed.

the Wolves Geneseed is not viable off Fenris.

          • Josh Sands

Neat! Got a source? I hadn’t realized any Traitor geneseed was saved beyond the Knights Errant.

          • Chris. K Cook

There has been Traitor Legion Gene seed in Stasis on Mars since the Heresy.

The first WD Index Astarties article on the 21st ‘Cursed’ Founding seemed to infer that some of the chapters were made using that geneseed. The Minotaurs and the Sons of Anteus are hinted (strongly) to be World Eater and Death Guard respectivly.

There are some theories as to who the other 7 may be.

The other main undertaking of this founding seems to be attempts to fix the flaws in loyalist gene seed, the Black Dragons being the Salamander geneseed and the Lamenters being Blood Angel derived.

And of course good old Fabius Bile is involved some how.

          • Josh Sands

I guess it makes sense they would try to make use it all. Cool.

      • Sonic tooth

I reckon the carcharodons could teach the wolves a trick or two

      • Mr_Pickles

it would be an interesting fight to watch as Forgeworld’s chapters offer a different spin on the GW chapters.

    • LordKrungharr

      Booooo! Hissssss!

  • euansmith

Do the Space Wolves get a tour van and a dodgy manager?

  • Moonsaves

Why do I get the feeling book 8 way in October will have a cliffhanger of Leman Russ standing there and glaring at the Dark Angels, who have absolutely shat themselves.

    • Jared van Kell

      I bloody well hope so.

      • euansmith

“I, Leman Russ, would travel to the surface of this world. You, Ultramarine Captain, let me in to your drop pod.”

“I’d love to help, old chap, but I’m afraid its no can do.”

        “What?! We are Battle Brothers!”

“Sorry, every since the FAQ, you’re going to have to bring your own ride. Tally-ho, chaps!”

    • Chris. K Cook

Because you haven’t been playing long enough to realise the Primarchs are never coming back.

The King Under the Mountain loses his narrative impact if he wakes up

      • Moonsaves

Well, the only reason I make the suggestion would be because of the rumours of the narrative finally going forward. If they’re making a “not-quite-end times”, the period before the Primarchs and Daemon-Primarchs face off would be yes.

  • Jared van Kell

GW are dragging this out because they know that everyone loves Space Wolves and they can make a lot of money off of this fact. The next book in the Warzone Fenris series will obviously coincide with the Tzeentch release which is due in September/October apparently.

    • effinger2

I don’t love them. Army of one. 🙂

      • Sonic tooth

        Me neither

    • Muninwing

      i don’t love them.

      i loved Prospero…

  • Jonathan B.

Lying (attributive form of the verb lie) means to speak falsely or utter untruth knowingly, with intent to deceive.
Laying (attributive form of the verb lay) means to knock or beat down, as from an erect position; to strike or throw to the ground.
So, is this title meaning that they are not telling the truth in flames? I think they got the wrong word here.

    • Orodruin

There are other definitions of lying, such as to rest in a horizontal/flat position, remain in a position/state of inactivity, or to be placed/situated. Those all work just fine.

    • nurglitch

You know who else likes lying and flames?

      • Muninwing

i really wanted to answer this with “your mom?”

      • Jonathan B.

        “My Mom!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!”

  • Mud_99

Don’t care what happens to the wolves, they won’t be seriously hurt since someone at gw has a wolf fetish and it don’t matter how many daemons they kill. I just hope something interesting happens. Russell returning would be cool. So long as they don’t win ultimate nullifier style it’ll be ok

    • euansmith

“Never lose a game again! With the Ultimate Nullifier in your Space Marine arsenal, any game can be turned in to a draw… its a valid tactic!” http://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b7c19e3534a329c12f7a85bd5329d0e8d46740beb1217ad6d0215b8b53045a8a.jpg

    • petrow84

Oi, Russell! Somebody gonna get a hurt REEEAL BAAAD!

      • Greg Fleming

I’m going to call the Emperor on you!!

Go ahead, here’s an astropath. It’ll take them about ….3 years to get here…..and then….

      • Chris. K Cook

Pictured, The Space Wolves Ultimate Weapon:

  • Severius_Tolluck

Great… so they are now going the dlc route for sure, making you pay over and over again. Which means it will slowly add up and you won’t notice at first, like a toad in slowly boiling water. However it is an easier pill to swallow versus a 80 dollar purchase upfront.

I am torn. or more like I am bjorn?

    • Shawn

Don’t forget, they will probably put it all out as a digital download along with Curse of the Wulfen for you to buy as an exclusive offer.

    • Muninwing

      what are we doing now?

      (bjorn is my surname)

    • polyquaternium7

Maybe you were Bjorn with it, maybe it’s Maybelline

  • David Brechin

Dont you all think the space wolves & blood angels will be 1st on the ‘End Times of the Dark Millenium’ chopping block? Can’t copyright vampires or vikings so bye-bye is likely i’d think

    • Muninwing

      stop trolling.

no end times. stupid idea. ultimately failed for WHF, so why repeat a failure?

      • Chris. K Cook

        Sky is falling

  • David Brechin

This is just the slow-slow build up to a unified Space Marine codex once the new status quo is established (i.e. separate the Imperial factions to eliminate blue-on-blue, unified chaos codex cos they sell poorly now, etc, etc. The End Times are coming, expect change)

    • nurglitch

Listen not to the whispers of Tzeentch! What you call ‘bloat’ I call an extravagance of content. 40k will grow organically, like a might toadstool in the darkness of this dark age of technology.

  • Muninwing

how did they get Martin Van Buren to grow a topknot and pose for that picture?

  • Muninwing

logan grimnir is missing, and there’s daemons and Darkangels and fighting…

    wow, how innovative.

  • Don’t buy the subscription, just wait for them to finish them up (there are plenty of delays between installments, there is no firm schedule here). This is a serialised novel, and the ebook for the finished thing will be around 13.49€ like the others, which is about a story’s worth cheaper than buying a subscription at least.

  • Евгения Ремезова

Is it just me soo annoyed already with Wolves and their wolfy-wolfing-ways of things, that I just want them to die? Such Mary Sues…
P.S. Mind you, anything that GW lays its hands upon in past few years becomes Mary Sue.

  • am1t

    They are puppies after all.

Azrael: Who’s a good Grimnar, yes you are yes you are *rubs his belly*
    Grimnar: woof woof

  • Commissar Molotov

    Eight parts? Forget it.
