GW loves a good tease.  One sergeant has been ordered to strike from the shadows… but at who?

GW says:

We intercepted this transmission (from the far future!) – what could it mean?

Breaking It Down

  • This is clearly a teaser for an upcoming product, as we saw with Death Masque 3 weeks back.
  • This story is centered on a Space Marine Sergeant being given a solitary mission to strike from the shadows.
  • He will be given mission parameters and it sounds like a “do or die” assignment.
  • Finally, note that the mission is being sent by newly minted  Raven Guard Chapter Master Kayvaan Shrike.

  • Kritarion

    Huh.

  • CDub

Yay.. more.. power armor releases.. so excited….

    Not really.

    • shiwan

More loyalists. Last release was 2 days ago.

    • Sam Nolton

At least it’s probably not Ultramarines 😛

    • Ross Allan

Looks like it’s some kind of return for Kill Team..

  • Davysion

    Kill Team teaser, I expect.

  • Mike Siegmund

So sick of SM its been some time from my last GW buy

    • vlad78

Well, and now they ‘ll think only space marine sell, ditch the others and release more space marines.

      • SacTownBrian

Didn’t 30k popularity already prove this?

        • vlad78

Yes and no. Seriously the Horus Heresy is the meat of the 40k universe, the best part of the background, the Emperor and his primarchs are the main characters, chaos coming only second and everybody else (except maybe the eldars) are just furnitures in this play. It stems imho from the fact it’s the only part of the lore GW kept working on seriously with competent writers and has stuck to the original vision similar to the legend of Arthur.

    • Mr_Pickles

Well ya see, GW has already released a lot of enemies for Space Marines to kill, and even gave a couple factions good rules to pose a challenge to the forces of the Space Marines…

      • Drpx

But not TOO much of a challenge.

        • Shawn

Hmmm, Tau, Eldar, and Khorne Daemonkin all provide a Big Challenge to Marines, if not wiping them off the table.

  • Bryan Ruhe

Rumor is it’s the tease for a Kill Team box set.
Mini rulebook, Kill Team (skirmish) rulebook, Space Marine squad and Tau Fire Warrior/Breacher squad.

    • WellSpokenMan

They’ve got a week before my Dark Angels and CSM Infantry go up on eBay to convince me this is legit.
Seriously GW, I was holding on to all this plastic for a year in the hopes that you would make a product I was interested in (in other words, a skirmish game) and you finally get around to it when I finally decide to cash those unused models in.

      • nurglitch

Check out Pulp Alley for some interesting ideas for 40k skirmish gaming.

        • WellSpokenMan

That does look interesting. I’ll have to dig deeper when I have the time.

          • An_Enemy

Heralds of Ruin have a ruleset for kill team games. I like it. Just Google their name and the blog should pop up.

    • luke snell

been so waiting for them to get around to this. finally a reason to keep invested in 40K (at least from my end.)

  • Bottle

It’s for the Kill Team game already confirmed that everyone is already talking about on other sites.

Where are your “industry insiders” now?..

  • euansmith

“Who is that lurking in the shadow? Come forth and declare yourself!”

    “Horus Lupercal…”

    “Yes?”

    “This is yer loif!”

  • Rajak

SM get all the love an new toys.

  • Horus84cmd

Could it not be just the individual release of the Raven Guard-esq Captain sculpt, currently only available in the command squad deal (were there shoulder pads too, I can’t recall?) from War Zone Damocles box?

Also they could be releasing the Tau Ethereal, currently only in the Getting Started Set, alongside it?

  • Guillermo Cordido

i think it’s Versus Tau, as O’shaserra have killed ravens master it seems like a retribution.

  • georgelabour

Hrmm there was a Raven guard descended chatper involved in the War Zone Fenris short stories. They were part of the crusade fleet but also aided the wolves during some of the fighting, and seemed to come and go as they pleased.

IIRC the only named one was in fact a sergeant.

It’s a thin thread but perhaps this does indeed confirm that Half life 3 is being made.

  • Max Knickerbocker

    The assassination of Commander Shadowsun.

    • Drpx

Khan would go through the roof if they did that.

      • Emdee

Yeah well Khan can go bite it…..We gave them Voldorius. Shadowsun killed our chapter master…we have first dibs!

  • Painjunky

    So friggin sick of muhreens!!
As a DE player is there any reason for me to stick around?
Seriously considering selling up and leaving GW forever.
    Infinity or dropfleet/zone looks interesting.

    • Bryan Ruhe

      Play what you like.
Shouldn’t be any more complicated than that.

      *shrug*

      • An_Enemy

He likes 40k. He also doesn’t like how SMs have a place in nearly every release while other factions are ignored.

        I don’t find that complicated.

It’s the people that see their fellow hobbyists frustration and tell them to go somewhere else that confuses me.

    • Firemind

I never quite understood this line of logic, I mean…you know you can always use your minis, right?

    • TrollSlaya

      Bye.

    • Emdee

You know as soon as you do that they will redo your codex, lol. Although I never get tired of Marines, I do play other armies too. I wouldn’t mind seeing some attention placed elsewhere for a while.

    • Admiral Raptor

      There is not.

The only hope for this game is a new edition.

On the upside there are tons of great miniature games out there! I can’t speak for drop fleet, but Drop Zone Commander is a lot of fun.

  • Emperor’s Champion

    probably just kill team

  • AnomanderRake

They finally found Corax. It turns out his Astronomicon uplink broke soon after he departed and it’s been leading him in circles around the galaxy for ten thousand years.

  • An_Enemy

It’s a box with ten tactical, ten fire warriors, a mini rulebook, and a kill team rulebook for around $60. At least, that’s what you’ll read here sometime tomorrow.

  • Emdee

I’m curious what this could be, I actually hope its NOT another box set. My boys have been getting a lot of luv lately…..I hope they don’t become too mainstream. I like being one of the only Raven Guard (and Knights of the Raven) players in my neck of the woods.

  • TheWanderingJewels

I misses the day of horde playing….had 10K of ‘Nids for Apocalypse level but given how bad they Nerfed nids and Competitive nonsense….I hardly bother anymore. why pay for the minis If I do not have a chance?

  • rtheom

It’s interesting that they’re shoving mini rulebooks into everything if the rumors are indeed true… it’s almost like they’re trying to dump all of the copies they’ve printed before they release a new edition… :p

  • Herkamer63

    Me…

    • rtheom

      You…

  • shaydozer

So many complaints about Space Marine releases lack of xenos stuff and people threatening to leave GW.

I do this crazy thing where I play my Xenos army a lot and also other games or other armies.

I am not sure if you were aware but as an adult we can do pretty much anything we want with our time and money and if you complain that you don’t have money for other armies or games how were you gonna buy the new releases for your current army anyway?

    • Stealthbadger

Oh it’s very simple it works like this:-

Release not for you army:- whine about X getting all the love/rage quit

Release for your army:- whine about price/effectiveness/GW release schedule being too fast or for bonus points whine it’s not for one of you other armies.

What always makes me smile is how so many on here ‘quit GW’ years ago but still come here to whinge about the company. It’s just like that person who won’t stop whinging about their ex girlfriend/boyfriend but are totally over it you know, and better off without them now, and not bitter at all…

And before the usual OH BUT YOU SPESH MEHREEN PLAYA! Crap this is coming from a guard player. Haven’t had a release in roughly two years. Do I care? No. As you say, an adult realises they can still play the game. I also have orks, ad mech and crons.

      • WellSpokenMan

I love how GW fans take all the complaints about the game and assign them to the same person. I also get a kick out of the girlfriend analogy. GW was never my girlfriend, they were a prostitute. I gave them money for what I got. Now they’re a prostitute who was a lot of fun once, but has kind of let themselves go in a direction I don’t find all that appealing. Still, they were a lot of fun, so I keep an eye on them. I will concede that a lot of guys fall in love with prostitutes, but that’s pretty sad whether they are happy with the situation or not.

        • Stealthbadger

GW are a toy company. Nothing more, nothing less. They offer stuff for sale, you chose whether to buy it. They owe the world nothing.

Getting bent out of shape over anything they do (and I’ll admit I have in the past too!) and then ranting about it is not reasonable adult behaviour.

Let it go and, if you wish, move on. Ranting about it CONSTANTLY on here is just sad. Complaints are fine, but this is just the same drivel again and again.

          • WellSpokenMan

There are a handful of people who complain constantly. There are a lot of people who complain occasionally about the same GW behaviors. I do wish that some people would let things go, but then expecting reasonable adult behavior from people who play with toy soldiers is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

          • Stealthbadger

I think that’s fair and accurate. One could equally criticise me for not being an adult and just ignoring it as do most visitors here but it is rather tiresome.
