Goatboy here with my latest nonsense way to put together Deathwatch and Grey Knights to bring down the pain!

Welcome to another fun day of 40k list nonsense.  If you remember before last year’s LVO I had built a Grey Knight, Blood Angels, and Ultramarine combo that actually worked pretty well.  A bit of bad luck and a rough match up left me out of the top 8 but at least I didn’t “lose” a game with two bad factions and one strong formation.  Still the new Draft FAQ has me looking elsewhere and finding some way to utilize all these dang good guy painted Grey Knights.  Lucky for me I think I might have found a way with the new Death Watch codex and one of the neatest little Artifacts to come out.

Meet the Beacon Angelus

The artifact I am talking about is the Beacon Angelis and its ability to allow precise deep strikes is something I could potentially use in my Grey Knight concoction.  Here are the rules so you can see where my fiendish brain started brewing.

There is no caveat stating the model needs to be on the board and I don’t think it is meant to have one.  There are teleport homers in the book and I feel as this is a single item it is designed to allow you to drop your leader and then have everyone land around him and cause a whole bunch of pain.  The second bit of this comes from the original Nemesis Strike Force Detachment that allows you to have your deep striking units roll to come in turn 1 instead of on turn 2.  Mix this up and I could have the potential to have a really rough alpha strike full of psychic powerhouses and giant baby bjorn robots.

My initial list thought was to try and utilize Purifiers in some way to throw out a few Cleansing flames.  Of course as Purifiers do not get the deep strike ability they have to have another form of transportation.  Initially I would use friendly Drop Pods but again I suspect the FAQ gets finalized soon and we end up losing the Drop Pod dealership deal.  This just leaves me with one option to Deep Strike in Purifiers and that is with the Storm Raven.

Thus here is my initial Purifier Centric build.

1850 Pt list – Warp Charge – 15

This is the first initial thought list that uses Purifiers.  Of course the plan is to roll a lot off stuff to come in, have your Death Watch land first with the Pod and then let everyone come around him for an initial strike of doom.  The Dread Knights have personal Teleporters so they can get somewhere else.  I didn’t go with Incinerators on the Dread Knights as I have a ton of templates as needed.  I does come down with a ton of nonsense ready to hurt an enemy.  Plus it feels very – Imperial with the “bad asses” of the Imperium coming to take names, capture some Pokemon, and maybe crack a few skulls.

I love kicking butt with my little black and silver buddies!

This list seems fine but this isn’t nearly as extreme as I could do.  I thought – heck how awesome would it be to have 4 Dread Knights coming down, getting close and threatening the enemy.  I could also mix it up with some different weapons on the Knights, maybe get lucky with a few strong rolls on Sanctic and might get a chance to throw a Vortex, do a cleansing flame, and maybe win with a force that looks like a bunch of true bad asses.

This one is all about dropping the Dread Knights into your opponents face, telling them to deal with it, and then watching you fail a ton of 2+ saves as they all die to pew pew fire.  Maybe you will get lucky, they will survive, turn on their Force Swords and murder some Tau Riptides.  I am sure the list won’t work that well but dang does it sound so cool to have all those guys out there doing some damage.

Right now I am hoping the next Curse of the Wulfen gives some Grey Knight love as I really would like to play another event with them and feel like I can compete.  I am all for the nerf to battle brothers and hope the next edition takes it further by making sure everyone only plays within their groups and doesn’t join a super rock group and jam out to some musical noodling nonsense.

~What ways have you thought of to abuse some of this teleport nonsense?  Any other crazy armies that could utilize a specialized homer?
