Blood Angels: Against the Black Crusade

blood angels captain chapter legion

The Blood Angels turn to face Abaddon’s Black Crusade. Here’s the latest from GW:

blood angels-teaser

So we’ve seen Kharn being unleashed to set off the 13th Black Crusade. Traitor’s Hate describes the initial movement of Chaos to break out of the Eye of Terror. today we see the first Imperial response. On the world of Diamor, the Blood Angels will make a move in the new Angel’s Blade book.

Based on that language and image, I would expect the Death Company to be heavily involved.

I think what we are seeing here is GW taking the Angels of Death “overlay supplement” treatment that we saw with Codex Space Marines being applied to other books.  If these two books modernize and update both the CSM and Blood Angels codex, that would go a long way towards rebalancing two of the games underpowered factions – and in 2 weeks!

~ I wonder how far Abaddon gets this time – maybe all the way to Terra?

  • Jared van Kell

My guess is that Angel’s Blade will include rules, formations and Decurions for the Blood Angels, Flesh Tearers and Chaos Spacemarines.

    • Djbz

But will the rules include the Stormhawk interceptor, Stormtalon gunship and both AA tanks?
Because I doubt Blood Angel players will be satisfied otherwise.

      • Zingbaby

As a Blood Angels player I disagree – I just want updated rules/points.

        • jazeroth

we are not getting anything like that it will be scouts and dreads update and formations.

      • pokemastercube .

cataphractii armour is what i want

        • Alan Doyle

You might get Tartaros Terminator armour if you are really lucky.

          • BrianDavion

cataphracti terminator armor is avaliable as a plastic kit. so it’s more likely.

    • Admiral Raptor

That would be awesome, so it will not happen.

  • Old zogwort

Blood for the blood….. wait why give it away when you can also drink and bath it it. Blood for me

  • Davor Mackovic

I am sure Abbadon will go all the way to Terra but will either fail again because mighty Space Marines save the day, and/or will get retconned again because the 14th crusade is just as not as sexy as saying 13th crusade.

    • Mark of Death

      Nooo. That would NEVER happen…..surely…..

    • BrianDavion

I doubt it, they’ll likely turn it into a super long conflict with no clear winners or losers look at how long they’ve drawn out the Horus Heresy, and we all KNOW how that ends up

  • shiwan

Ok, so, the worst paper codex with double fearless formations vs. a bad codex with….what?

  • Mike Salamandrin

Well first The Wolf Time, now Blood Angels VS Korne; Dark Angels need to catch up!

    • Admiral Raptor

Aren’t the Dark Angels busy blowing up the Fenris System just like any reasonable loyalist chapter would?

    • BrianDavion

dark angels are, in terms of formations etc, in a pretty good place

  • Haighus

The Blood Angels must be operating at no more than half strength by the end of this campaign- they’ve come straight from two massive, gruelling campaigns against the Tyranids, and are now redeploying against the 13th Black Crusade? I know it’s 1 minute to midnight, but they must be bleeding dry from this.

    • arkhanist

In one of the older blood angel fluff books (Red Legion), they tithed replacements from half a dozen of their successor chapters after major losses. Maybe they’ve kept that up?

Shield of Baal only involved the 1st and 2nd company though, and they largely nuked the place and ran away.

Besides. Being a first founding chapter they have plot armour, even if it’s not enough to give them all the toys the other chapters get (AA, flyers, centurions, grav, gladius etc, though at least dreads and scouts were FAQ’d)

      • Haighus

Tithing replacements from successors would make for a great solution to the problem. It also fits well with C:BA actually being C:Gene-sons of Sanguinius.

Huh, I thought there were other companies involved, but the 1st and 2nd companies took the most important missions. I’ll have to re-read the campaign books. :/ Even without taking the ‘Nids head on, and with the superweapon, they only just had enough to stop the aliens and took heavy casualties still (also the weapon caused collateral on the remaining Imperial forces).

Well, we’ve seen the Blood Angels reduced to a handful of marines in the fluff before, and return, so I think they may be lacking even in plot armour… 😉

  • Painjunky

Needs more blood angry death muhreens.

  • Carlos Allende

How about more DC dreadnoughts, really want to see what a DC leviathan would do…..

    • euansmith

      DC Knight Titan?

      • Carlos Allende

I fear for the planet that thing is set upon.

      • MPSwift

If piloted by a scion aspirant does that make it a DC Teen Knight Titan? 😀

        • euansmith

Now that sounds like a great animated TV series. Cyborg would be right at home as a servitor.

  • SilentPony

So I’m guessing ALL the Blood Angels will die again, and then next week they’ll be back to full strength.

    • euansmith

Maybe their dormant Necron-bro-gene will activate and the Blood Angels will gain Reanimation Protocol; rising from the soil of their graves at the touch of blood!

  • Slite

Though I don’t have the Traitor’s Hate book on hand, I feel very confident to say that it is in no way an Angels of Death style book.

From what we’re told, there are no new warlord traits, no new artifacts, no legion specific formations and I highly doubt it will include the rules for fielding traitor units from Horus Heresy box.

    • BrianDavion

I doubt it too as you’d think they’d advertise that, suprises me that they don’t. easily makes sense they’d have them and it’d sell more minis.

  • Andrew Thomas

Can we have a repeat of the stiffest middle finger ever raised to the Ruinous Powers during the Horus Heresy, as seen in The Vengeful Spirit?

    • Benderisgreat

Angry, Farty, Horny and the Riddler are actual gods that proactively buff their armies. The rest of the factions don’t even get that by half. Even the 5th god (Emprah Not-Sigmar) doesn’t get to buff his many factions to the same degree.

  • TheWanderingJewels

If the Sparkly Vampires get a replacement can they rename a few things? For Emperor’s Sake, with all the ‘Blood’ prefixes on their weapons and equipment, they sounded like a bad 90’s comic

  • Karru

I love the fact that the author decided to include CSM in the same sentence with the Angels of Death book regarding who gets what. The truth will be that the CSM book will blow, a lot. I dare to say that most of the formations will be utterly useless, as we have already seen with the Kharn one. This will be a good day for BA and I am glad for them even if I don’t play them, they deserve it. It really stings that you belong to the faction with most toys and for some reason they get shafted and don’t get any of them while theirs are given to Space Marines.

Now all they really have to do is update Grey Knights with a supplement, I haven’t heard of them in a long time. Maybe give them something nice as well.

    • BrianDavion

not sure any GKs would use formations as they’d be forced to use strike squads and other “not terminators or dreadknight” units

      • ThunderMohawk

I’d totally love a reason to take strike squads, dreadnoughts, tech priests and interceptors!
BA getting a potential update gives me faith that GK will be bought up to speed within the next year… Or two…

  • TheWanderingJewels

they really need to update ALL the Codexes to give the Marines a hard fight. while the SM’s are the poster boys of the game, a lot of people are not going to buy New models unless they cane compete

    • BrianDavion

I think chaos in particular suffers with GW having a somewhat unclear vision of what they wanna do with them for example, their current codex has really been pushing the deamon engine angle hard
