Take a look at what’s coming in the 2nd part of Warzone Fenris.

“you get an early glimpse at this phenomenal piece of artwork from part II in the saga of War Zone: Fenris.

What’s going on there? We don’t know, but it looks awesome (unless you’re a Space Wolf. Then it looks potentially less awesome…)”

War Zone Fenris: Curse of the Wulfen (Softback) $65

You will recall that the end of Curse of the Wulfen ended with the Dark Angels fleet pulling into orbit and giving the order to fire.  It looks like Chaos is bringing a fleet of thier own to cause some mischief.  Also what’s up with those two unusual celestial bodies up there?

the-rock-wulfen

We have just recently seen Genestealer Cult and this is a dead giveaway that Warzone Fenris isn’t too far away.  There will be a lot of 40K in the weeks ahead.

~Who do you think is behind it all?

  • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Seeing that picture, some nearly dead piece of my heart just hoped for a plastic Chaos drop pod/Dreadclaw….

    • ZeeLobby

Oh it will be. We just won’t get rules for it… cause reasons!

    • Charon

Would not count on it. It hink it is more like:
“Ok so now we invade Fenris… I have checked the codex and… how do they actually land on a planet? I mean there is no flying transport in the book, no drop pods….”
“Oh just figure something out… we gave them a million thunderhawks in the Taitors hate books for example”
“Hmm… ok… you know what? I watched the cronicles of Riddik the other night… how about Flying towers of Tzeentch the size of a spaceship that comes crushing down and unloads their crew while providing a Stongpoint at the same time?”
“Great idea! This way we do not have to deal with CSM players asking for drop pods… nobody will ask for a spaceship sized drop fortress in their codex.”

      • Lord Elpus

In very old fluff Tzeentch did indeed have big floaty crystal towers..

        • Steve L Duelist

and still cannot hit a battlebarge sized target with a 1000 of them 😛

        • Charon

          in Epic, yes.

          • Lord Elpus

But the sculpting has improved! So Tzeentch can make bigger kits with extra bits!

          • georgelabour

Actually they did make 40k stats for them to be used in Apocalypse.

          • Charon

None of them was ship sized as it would be a lot bigger than an emperor titan.

      • eehaze

        > spaceship sized drop fortress

You mean a Monolith or Obelisk? I’d run one if it could spit out Rubric Marines.

        • Frank Krifka

Wasn’t there a rumor about a limited release of “the largest kit gw has ever produced?”

          • eehaze

Hopefully that’s a morbidly obese Mortarion.

          • Barty

I thought Deamon Mortarion looks more like the Reaper than a Great Unclean one?

        • Lee Williams

I’d run one if it wasn’t so big that it mishaps all the time.

I won’t get started about drop pods with ‘guidance’ vs tombs rising up from the ground.

      • We do have Dreadclaws and storm Eagles

        • Charon

Not in the Codex. Also fuuny enough, these two are never mentionend in BL books.

          • Lots of things aren’t in the codex, they’re still options all csm players can field

          • Lee Williams

What ? No, I mean what?

          • Just because something isn’t in the codex doesn’t mean it’s not an option for your army, lots of stuff is in supplemental materials

          • 4th edition codex even had one of the paint schemes being a warband noted for its extensive use of drop pods. Which there were no rules for. http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Steel_Brethren

      • Mike Salamandrin

There is a mysterious 40k limited release kit rumored that’s, “the biggest kit released to date”

  • OldHat

Is that a wolf and hydra (?) confronting one another in the backdrop of stars?

    • Jared van Kell

No, that is a wolf and a serpent confronting each other.

      • georgelabour

And what does a hydra have multiple heads of? 😛

        • Lord Elpus

          Feet!

          • georgelabour

            Your answer is Alpharius.

          • Lord Elpus

            Might be Omegon….😒

          • Slite

I just spit out my drink through my nose from laughing so hard

        • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

          broccoli?

    • Rafał Pytlak

Thousand Sons spirit Animal is a serpent? Or are Alphas involved?

      • Charon
      • georgelabour

There were in fact some alpha legion involved in the entire thing. A bit of fiction in the 40k book mentions them being dispatched by Abbaddon years in advance of the entire war beginning.

So it could be either, or even both….

        Or everyone might be Alpharius.

      • nurglitch

        The Great Serpent of Chaos.

        • georgelabour

Hrmm the ‘serpent god’ that corrupted House Devine was actually Fulgrim, or the daemon that possessed him.

          So perhaps…half life 3 confirmed?

          • nurglitch

Tzeentch is portrayed as a serpent in A Thousand Sons, and Horus is revived in the Lodge of the Serpent in False Gods. Both by McNeill.

        • Coltcabunny

          The Great Serpent of Trau-Saar.

          • nurglitch

You ever wonder why Magnus the REd way said to have a single eye?

          • palaeomerus

            Oui Oui!

    • MPSwift

Fenrir and Jormungandr if going by the old Norse myths, both of whom have a major part to play in Ragnarok 😉

    • Lonewolf45634

Its a serpent so maybe Thousand sons? just like theyre post heresy badge?

  • Ross Allan

Nice to see some 40k movement.

Been a helluva year for AoS so far, and fairs fair.

  • georgelabour

Is it just me or do those look like a super glowy silver tower of tzeentch taking all the way up to infinity?

  • Rafał Pytlak

It would be cool if GW would finnaly kill one of the Funding Chapteròw. Spacer Lassies would be a good pick…

    • Simon Steffensen

Would be cool if you killed yourself

    • SilentPony

They’re not going to kill off the only Marine chapter people actually like. They’d sooner kill off the Iron Hands or Dark Angels.

      • Shawn

I’ll second Spacewolfars, bite your tongue. I play Iron Hands!

      • Rafał Pytlak

I thought DA was popular, being #1 chapter and all…
But yeah, screw Iron Hands, “the Boring Marines”.

Such a shame player actually dig the Spacer Viking pups

        • Shawn

Pffftt! Iron Hands are not boring! LOL.

    • Spacewolflars

      bite yer tongue

  • SilentPony

As a Space Wolf player, it still looks awesome.

But what is it you thinks gonna happen? Fenris destroyed? Space Wolves extinct? Named characters who just got fancy new models killed off? The Lion wakes up? Magnus pokes Grimnar in the eye? Draigo returns on a jet-ski?

Nothing will happen! Some last ditch Deus Ex AxeToTheFace will solve it at LITERALLY the last second before Exterminatus, the Space Wolves will be ‘badly diminished’ without any one character killed off, the Imperium will be ‘vigilant’ of the Fenris system, either nothing or a little bit of nothing will improve between the Dark Angels and Space Wolves, and Magnus will go back into the warp, content he trolled the Space Wolves a little bit.

    • Lord Elpus

In the novels Canis had a terminal haircut…

      • georgelabour

And he might yet come back as Robocanis!

Dead or alive, I’m still ripping your throat out, and feeding it to mah wolves! Creep.

Or Harald may just murder a lot of Iron Hands instead.

        Or Both.

        I’m hoping for both.

        • Shawn

Why would Harald have anyhting to do with Iron Hands?

          • georgelabour

They kind of, dropped an orbital strike on him and his men while they were fighting a blood thirster.

acceptable losses to the hands. A blood oath for a wolf lord.

Also the Iron Hand in question is a real…not nice individual.

          • Shawn

Oh, I see. Where can I read that. And who was the Iron Hand. I’ve read a few, who have lost touch with their humanity (I see that as their curse, so-to-speak), Thanks George.

          • georgelabour

            http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/warzone-fenris-sub.html

It’s a series of 8 short stories that are basically chapters of the same tale.

And it covers a LOT of ground despite how short it is.

          • Shawn

Thank’s George. I’ve been meaning to pick that up, so now I have more of a reason to. I do like space wolves myself. I like them and Salamanders. Two chapters out of thousands that actually seem to care about helping humanity. Do I need to get Curse of the Wulfen first? I kind of wanted to read the whole tale without having to buy the gaming campaign book.

          • georgelabour

The stories pick up right where curse of the wulfen leaves off. That is to say when the imperial crusade reaches the system.

If you’re familiar with the overall events, or even have the 40k Warzone Fenris rule book then you’ve got most of the info needed for them all to make sense.

          • Shawn

Thanks George. I don’t have the rulebook. I don’t play space wolves, and couldn’t justify $75 for some fluff. However, if I can pick up with Curse of the Wulfen, I’ll be alright I think. Now, I would love to see a campaign book featuring the Iron Hands. I’d pay $75 for that (well almost. I have ways of getting a discount :)). Thanks again.

          • Don’t buy the short stories / subscription. It is indeed a full novel, and will be published as such soon, for cheaper. No need to pay premium for getting them piecemeal now.
There’s also an audio drama tie-in by Robbie MacNiven coming, and a sequel to Legacy of Russ, which Robbie was supposed to write but was re-assigned before he could, now coming by somebody else.

Curse of the Wulfen is first, yes, and in some ways I believe the Legends of the Dark Millennium: Space Wolves stories could also factor in, featuring the changeling and such.

          • Shawn

            Thanks DC.

          • You’re very welcome. My continuous browsing of forums and following authors on Twitter has to be good for something, at least 🙂

      • SilentPony

Is he straight up dead or simply injured, in the ‘red dream’ unlikely to recover until the last moment when he does and leads an epic charge that fixes a problem?

        • Lord Elpus

Well he did get his head chopped off by a herald of Khoenemy, I think it’ll take a bit more than a Band aid and some anti bacterial to remedy that..

          • SilentPony

While that is a fun step, unfortunately BlackLibrary isn’t considered canon in the 40k game. Only what happens in the Codex.

That’s why Idaeus is still the Captain of the Ultramarines 4th company and Grukk Facerippa is still alive.

          • georgelabour

Grukk isn’t dead…he and ghazghkull actually met after Sanctus reach..

Though that’s all that gets mentioned and there’s been nothing said beyond that.

          • SilentPony

Grukk died in the audio drama Klaw of Mork

          • Did he? Isn’t it implied he survived and wants to take revenge on the Mek who tried to usurp his leadership?

          • ReverendTiberiusJackhammer

“unfortunately BlackLibrary isn’t considered canon in the 40k game.”

How so? Never seen a source for that beyond hearsay. True, there have occasionally been contradictions, but there have also been contradictions between, and within, codexes.

          • nurglitch

Fabius Bile might have a salve for that.

    • Steve L Duelist

If the only result is SW lose they access to storm shields, I would call it a successful major event

It would be silly for GW to release wulfen, only to have them killed off in the end of the battle

    • Steve L Duelist

Prephas they’ll be smart enought to cheat the results, like forge world with the battles post iishtvan V, were modes and equipment become unavaible or mutually exclusive. I think the blood Angels have a captain that has a model pre and post black rage

      • SilentPony

I wouldn’t mind Grimnar being Dreadnought-ed. But they just made a fancy new model, so we know it won’t be happening.

Maybe they’ll kill of Ragnar? But then again, he’s the face of the Wolves and the ‘Eavy Metal studio army is the Blackmanes.

        • Steve L Duelist

Well it may not be a bad idea to kill Ragnar, because he is awesome and is so hyped to be the next great wolf in the stories. It would reneforce the grimdark world 40k is meant to be. No plot armoured heroes with some epic destiny they’ll eventually for fill. And being the masscot only helps further shatter the idea characters can be save from harm

          • MPSwift

Stormclaw sets up a rivalry between Krom and Ragnar and you can make a pretty decent Ragnar out of the Krom kit with the SW upgrade pack. With Ragnar being referred to as the Young King if Grimnar does bite it and Ragnar dies too then we could see Krom take over as Great Wolf which would be…. different.

        • nurglitch

Maybe they’ll just release a new model with a fancy new haircut: http://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/18/af/5f/18af5f2c12a75d46553b27fdcc9fe31e.jpg

        • Haighus

Ragnar could be dreadnoughted if they didn’t want to kill him outright, he certainly has enough of a hero status to be worthy for interrment. Would make an interesting counterpart to the ancient wisdom of Bjorn. Ragnar is the only Space Wolves hero without a recent model now, Arjac, Njal and Lukas have models from 5th edition, Grimnar, Bjorn, Ulrik and Krom have plastics, so they must be planning something with him…

    • nurglitch

It’s an opportunity for some new models and to play some games with them. I’m okay with that.

    • LordKrungharr

Bjorn can walk the astral plains now. They should give him psychic powers or something to screw with deepstriking units.

    • Keaton

They killed a character with a model in Kau’yon, don’t be so sure. I bet someone with a model does eat it. My money is on Ragnar since the codex came and went without a model update and that thing is UGLY.

      • nurglitch

I always figured Ragnar would fall to Chaos.

      • Haighus

What character was killed in Kau’yon?

        • Keaton

Aun’Va. It was actually Mont’ka. Severax died in Kau’yon, but I don’t think he had a model.

          • Haighus

Thanks, that is a big kill-off! They clearly wanted to balance out the death of a 1st Founding chapter master, and bumping off the head ethereal is a pretty good way to do that…

          • Keaton

Yeah! Gives me hope that they’ll continue to move the lore forward in a way that actually matters.

        • Graham

Aun’Va but I believe it was Mont’ka. Kau’yon had the chapter master of Raven guard killed. I don’t believe he has a model.

    • MarcoT

Fenris itself could be wrecked though, so they leave the Fang. That wouldn’t hurt any armies but would by a real loss.

  • Bryan Ruhe

Geeze, I know it’s been covered before but those Wulfen look so awful.

    • Drew

Absolutely right. I went and bought a bunch of the old metal ones- twice the sculpt as the new ones, and the artwork reflects it. I loved Curse of the Wulfen but was ashamed to be seen reading it because of the cover art.

  • Admiral Raptor

Come on GW, be brave, shake things up, blow up Fenris! Let’s get things going with End Times 40k already!

    • nurglitch

It’s been the 40k End Times for several editions now.

      • Nubu

I don’t thing he was talking about GW sales.

        • nurglitch

No, I mean the setting of 40k has been an End Times scenario for several editions now. The end isn’t just near, it’s just around the corner and from several angles.

          • Nubu

It’s been what it’s been since RT. This campaign thing (and the previous 13th) is the only thing that provides a possible change to the status quo in the fluff.

          • nurglitch

Yes. The point is that it’s a background, a setting in which stories take place, not some progressive narrative.

          • Admiral Raptor

It’s a background that’s become as stale as thirty year old bread. That’s why we need a progression. All of the most interesting parts of the current setting only get better if you let the story lines progress. Right now the setting is sitting on the cusp of being interesting. Let’s see what happens when the primarchs re-emerge, or when Cypher reaches Terra, or when Cadia falls, or if the Tau ever do anything of note!

          • nurglitch

I like the open-ended background, and despite reading about it since Rogue Trader I have yet to see it grow stale. I’ve especially enjoyed ADB’s take on it, but I also enjoy the way Chaos has been developed to point out they’re not just another alien threat. It appeals to my Lovecraft fandom, and that’s even older (and more socially embarrassing) material!

          • nurglitch

Why not come up with something? The big thing about 40k is that it’s open-ended, and it’s all just people making stuff up. It’s a universe without a Canon, which seems to me like the right way to run a sandbox. It’s the elements I want, rather than their arrangement. I have alternate fluff for my Tyranids that completely throws the official fluff out the window, for example.

    • MPSwift

Leave my planet alone damn it! 😛

      • Emdee

Blow it up! Make them a fleet based chapter from now on……hahahahaha!

        • MPSwift

Cause the last time the Vikings didn’t have a stable home and resorted to spending most of their time on ships it worked out so well for everyone 😛

          • Haighus

It worked out pretty well for England in the long run when a group of vikings settled in Normandy, and then decided to take the English crown and begin the dynasty that is still operating as the UK today… 😉

          • MPSwift

One could argue that that was after they had given up their ships 😉 during the seaborne days pretty much just a lot of death and robbery 😛

  • Nubu

I wonder if GW will give CSM something now.

    • Diagoras

Some small, naïve part of me is a little hopeful for those new Rubricae that were hinted at before. Perhaps even a small glimmer of hope for a full Thousand Sons supplement.

Fortunately, GW themselves have provided me with a rather apt quote for this very situation-

“Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment”

    • Stealthbadger

I was beginning to miss Shiwan but it’s good to have you. Never change.

  • Matthew LeBlanc

The Daemon spike things look cool.

  • __
    • Nubu

I don’t think so. It would not be a bad thing but it’s a 30k model.

  • Chancy Rickey

Is That a Tyranid Hive Fleet incoming?

    • Emdee

I think that those are supposed to be silver towers….at least I hope so.

  • Lewis Everitt

Shark jump after shark jump after shark jump. It’s hard to care.

  • Lee Williams

Here’s something funny. I don’t even read the articles anymore, I just scroll to the comments. More informative and less repetition of old articles.
