dust-inside short film

One man searches for a cure for a plague and personal redemption in this gorgeous short film.

Dust is a dystopian fantasy short film that pulls in elements of horror and anime from Ember Lab. It’s set in a isolated ancient city that’s walled off from the rest of civilization, and has been retaken by nature. Irezumi (Masashi Odate) has decided to stay in this harsh and dangerous place to find the cure for a plague that could wipe out what is left of humanity.

It’s a beautiful film in part because of where it was filmed. The crew had to hike in with all of their equipment into remote sites in the southern island of Shikoku, Japan and the Iya Valley. There they got to use a natural backdrop of rivers, magnificent waterfalls, and thatched houses perched on hillsides to create Irezumi’s world.

The funding for the film was crowd sourced in 2012. It was well worth the 4 year wait – it’s beautifully shot, the CG work is excellent, and it’s a well told story that will draw you in. It has picked up awards from Dragon-Con, Hollyshorts, World-Fest, and multiple awards Film-Quest since it’s release on the circuit last year.

You’ll definitely want to go full screen for this…
