Geekery: That’s Doctor Strange to You, Buddy

Marvel shoots for some levity in this magic filled trailer for Doctor Strange…

We also get some idea of where this movie and Strange’s universe fits into the broader MCU Take a look:

“The Avengers protect the world from physical dangers. We safeguard it against more mystical threats.”

I’m expecting we’ll get more as to how Thor picks up that address card seen on the set of Ragnarok in there somewhere. They have a lot of connections to make before the first Infinity War movie in 2018.

This is the first time we’ve gotten to see the lighter side of this movie. That crack and a better look at some of the characters makes me hopeful for a movie that has seemed pretty shaky recently. The script on this one has gone through a lot of hands – it started with Jon Spaihts, then it was handed to C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson (who got advice from James Gunn); and most recently it went to comedy writer Dan Harmon during the last set of pick-ups.

It’s a challenge to bring Dr. Stephen Strange to the screen – will see if Marvel Studios was up to the task in November.

Doctor Strange will be in theaters November 4th

It will work because it’s a Marvel movie, It’s Dr. Strange, and a Cumberbatch to play him.

I am expecting that, like the rest of the movie MCU (should that be “MFU”, or does that just sound rude?), it will aim to be entertaining; unlike the sad and depressing DCU Snyder-verse, which seems to aim to punish the view for going to watch a blockbuster.
