Wave III has hit shelves – Come see everything these Flotillas are bringing!

We’ve talked a fair bit about how we plan on using Wave III ships before, but today was the first time we actually got our hands on the ships and got to look at all the new fanciness.

Having looked at the new ships now can I just say: Wow! Wave three introduces a new ship type to the game, Flotillas. These ships are actually made up of a group of small ships flying and fighting together. This is represented by having two small ship models on each base. This is a really amazing way to expand the game and looks really cool.

It lets them add some smaller ships into the game, as well as making the visual aspect really pop, making it far more likely that your battles will feature dozens of ships clashing in the darkness of space. Flotillas follow most of the same rules as capital ships, but tend to be weaker and more support oriented that their larger friends. Overall they are a great addition to the game.

Masters of Support

The new Rebel flotilla, the GR-75 Rebel Transports, is a support based ship. With only the most minimal amounts of firepower, the ship most devote itself to supporting others. On the plus side both versions of the GR-75 are dirt cheap. This ship is designed to allow you to get some cheap fighter activations, while also supporting your fleet, either by repairing friendly ships or buffing your bombers. New cards like Bomber Commander Center or Toryn Farr can add to the offensive capabilities of your fleet, while the Bright Hope title can make one of your GR-75s incredible survivable.

The State of Denial

On the Imperial side the new Imperial Assault Carriers, the Gozanti-class, are a little more offensively minded. Though costing more than the GR-75 the Imperials do carry enough guns to affect the game. While the Gozanti’s  can fill the same support role as their Rebel counterparts the introduction of cards such as Slicer Tools and the Suppressor  title allows them to deny the enemy the full use of their abilities. The Gozanti plays as a more offensive ship, actively wanting to get into the enemy fleet and start messing with them.
