40K: Burning of Prospero Teaser

Games Workshop has a new Teaser for the Burning of Prospero – behold the secrets of the Thousand Sons!

via Games Workshop (Warhammer TV Facebook)

Our world may burn, but the light of knowledge will never die. 22nd October.

Games Workshop has pulled the covers off The Horus Heresy: Burning of Prospero and here are a few highlights from the video:

This model has been clearly identified as Ahriman in the video and also from the picture we saw eariler.

Here are some of the sweet new Tartaros Pattern Terminators – we are assuming these are new plastics as well.

In case you didn’t already know – the Space Wolves are the ones in charge of executing the “Burn” on Prospero. Here we have a great shot of them in their MK III Power Armor.

The Space Wolves also have back-up in the form of the Golden-Armored Custodian Guard. And…

The Sisters of Silence! In Plastic no less!

We also now have a date of October 22nd – That would be a Saturday so it’s probably safe to assume that it will probably be when the Pre-Orders go live for the boxed set. I can’t wait to see what other teasers Games Workshop has in store of us for the next few weeks!

When asked what their mission is on Prospero the Space Wolves Responded with “Kickin’ tires an’ lightin’ fires.”

  • Badgerboy1977

Really amazing stuff, GW are absolutely killing it at the moment with the quality of the minis in their box games.

  • CthulhuDawg

I’ll wait for the individual releases. I love the terminator and Ahriman models, the rest are just not to my taste. I keep thinking oh I’ll pick up a copy of calth to start my long awaited Imperial Fists army but I’m just not a huge fan of heresy era marine/weapon aesthetics and would rather them be MKVI or later with 40k style melta/plas what have you. Heresy vehicles however are amazing, Deimos Vindicator Laser Destroyer, Mastodon etc awesomeness distilled.

    • MPoland

Are you me from an alternate universe? ‘Cause I love the Mk.III but am not a fan of the terminators or Ahriman. Kind of a long shot asking, but do you want to swap contact info, each buy a boxed set then exchange the parts we each don’t like for the parts we do?

      • CthulhuDawg

Thanks for the offer but I’m passing entirely on this for the moment. Talk to me again next month when BloodBowl comes out. Always need more orks.

      • NikosanPrime

Where are you located? Cause I was thinking the same thing. I really love the Terminators but the MKIII doesn’t work for the Chapter I am doing.

    • Bulvi Nightbane

The stuff we have in 40k, including MK6 and MK7 armor was in limited use during the Heresy and Scouring. Mostly it would be the legions with access to Terra and Mars that had any: Imperial Fists, White Scars, Space Wolves, Raven Guard, and loyalists from the traitor legions. Side note, the Alpha Legion at some point stole the plans for MK6 so they have access to that.

      • CthulhuDawg

I meant a 40k Imperial Fists army not a legion. I don’t have any interest in playing 30k personally which is why having so many legionnaire style troops would bug me. I don’t like the older bolter patterns, any of the melta/plas/grav aesthetics. I especially don’t like the helmets. I chose MkVI as an example just because that’s when things start to turn more into the 41st millennium vibe. I’ve been loving painting the MKVIII in the deathwatch kit.

    • Moonsaves

Eh, just take the stuff you want and use it all in 40k. There’s rules for it and it makes sense, so there’s always that option.

      • CthulhuDawg

The thematic feel of an army is more important to me than rules. I don’t see myself fielding models I don’t like the look of. Which is the case of most heresy era gear.

    • Benderisgreat

Really? Those MK3’s look a lot more Imperial Fisty than the pseudo-beakies from the Calth set.

Well, to each his own. I’ll probably turn them into Death Guard to go with my kitbashed Mortarion.

      • Emperor’s Champion

I’m picking this up maybe a bit later than it’s release because as much as I love thousand sons both pre and post heresy I’d rather use this set to add to my imperial fists which along with the sisters and custodes is very much fitting for terran battles.
The other reason is I love anything tzeentch like and that means waiting that little while longer for the rumoured/ confirmed plastic thousand sons with their Magnus.

  • ZeeLobby

Just can’t pull trigger with 40K thousand sons around the corner. This will probably be a purchase down the road, just to build and paint custodes and sisters, but they’ve tempted me with that sweet changing demon flesh, can’t get distracted with teenage Ahriman now, bring on Grandpa Ahriman!

    • Aezeal

Only these space wolves seem viable for you.. the rest looks like stormcast eternals with the infinite details you abhor.

Actuallly those custodes actually look like knights.. not even knights in space.. they ARE stormcasts.

      • Havik110

remember, the custodes did not wear power armor…

        • nurglitch

The Custodes do wear power armour (The First Heretic, nacht).

        • The Rout

They did then. They only stopped wearing it after the emperor ends up on the throne. Their armor is actually pretty meaningful. Custodes have very long names. One will be the name of their first teacher, one will be for the first mission they complete. Basically fenrisian deed name but they aquire dozens ( or even hundreds) during their service. They have those names inscribed all through the interior of the armor. The older ones have too many names to fit in inside of the armor so they have really long purity seals to write it on. Apparently names have power and it’s very difficult to know a custodes full name and his full name is literally his armour.

Makes it all the more tragic that they give it up in shame for not protecting the emperor. Means they basically give up everything they are since they are their name, they are their armour.

          F******g love custodes

      • ZeeLobby

Lol. It’s cute how bitter you are. Sorry I don’t love/hate everything. Maybe some introspection will help calm your daemons. I think the sisters and custodes look fine. Custodes are THE elite guardians if the universe and deserve baroque and elaborate armor. I like the whole GSC release model wise. I think magnus’s wing symbols look derpy.

If you think these models look identical to Stormcast then you must call them sigmarines as well? I’m actually super happy they aren’t Stormcast size. A lot of what I find wrong with AoS is its super-sized everything. Big hats, big boots, big symbols. Not like intricate designs. I’m talking giant symbols slapped on foreheads!

I’m sorry! I’ll try better to conform for you!

        • Randy Randalman

Except that hating AoS without substantive reasoning grounded in logic has been the cool thing for a year now, so doing so is conforming to the loud portions of the internet crowd.

          • benn grimm

We have plenty of substantive reasoning, put forward multiple times. Zee has put forward good reasons for why he likes what he likes and why he doesn’t what he doesn’t. The AoS protection society (who are far louder and far ruder) just choose to ignore it as it doesn’t chime with their (your) view.

          • ZeeLobby

Thanks benn! Haha. I mean I always give a reason. And I always admit, especially when aesthetics are involved, that it’s a personal opinion.

          • kloosterboer

Mad respect for personal opinions – benn and Zee representin’..

..it’s when those opinions are somehow certified as fact that it becomes an issue.

          • ZeeLobby

Which I really try to never do. I might go on an AoS release article and say I think something looks ugly. Or that I think the rules are just too simplistic when pressed for reasoning. But it’s just my opinion. People get like really offended though.

          • Hawt Dawg

You really get to my nerves.

            In a good way.

          • ZeeLobby

As long as it’s in a good way. I secretly believe it’s cause you see the truth, but choose to deny it!

          • Hawt Dawg

            I disagree.

            Because I can.

Commandos next month. Farrow and I need you to buy at least a box.

          • ZeeLobby

            How bout 2???

          • Hawt Dawg

That is not what we need.

But we will accept the extra gravy.

            Thank you!

          • Hawt Dawg

And his brother benn is always there to back him up.

Do you let him ride shotgun in that GWhatemobile of yours?

          • benn grimm

No hate here Mr Dawg, I’ll leave that to the likes of you.

          • Hawt Dawg

Come on! I hoped for a hungry pike here.

          • benn grimm

            Maybe try under your bridge?

          • Hawt Dawg

I did! Only hot chicks there.

I want hate gawd damn it!

          • ZeeLobby

Except I always give reasoning and most of it is aesthetics and personal, and the rest is usually shortcomings that GW admits themselves, like releasing a way to organize games a year late. I have no sympathy for knee jerkers who attack without thinking on either side.

    • Emperor’s Champion

I’m the same I like the 30k ahriman model and I want some mk 3 in my imperial fists but knowing the 40k TS are getting a plastic revamp my devotion to tzeentch is just too much to ignore them.

  • BloodAngelsCaptain

I just want the Termies and Sisters.

  • Timotheus

*sees custodes and sisters of silence models*
*thinks about conversion possibillities for Inquisition*
    *head explodes*

    • Ben Martin

*the faint sound of many more heads detonating in the distance*

I can’t wait to use these guys both as conversions and as they are already!

  • Jared McWilliams

well sisters of silence blows my mind tbh. Well done GW.

    • Jim Collins

Let’s hope they alter the designs and make 40k sisters from their molds with some alteration.

      Those models are very nice.

  • Deacon Ix

    I’ll take 2 please…

    • SilentPony

      I’ll take 3!

      • Neal Laxman

Do we have a raise on 3?? I hear 4 in the room. You sir….

  • Jo Go

I want those Sisters and Custodians to use as Stormcasts!

    • Timotheus

      Meanwhile in Russia?

    • Xodis

Sounds like a really good idea actually!

  • SilentPony

I’m so ready for this its beyond not even funny. Its actually funny again.

  • SupPupPup

    Noooo. Boobplates. NOOOOOOO

    • Hawt Dawg

Agreed! What happened to good old chainmail?

    • OldHat

It is the future. If there is any time period to forgive function over aesthetics, it is this one. Lasers don’t care how your boob armor is shaped. And that they are the “Sisters”, I think they went for “feminine” over “function” for look.

      • SupPupPup

No cod pieces for the lads though. I could barely make out they were even men (WHO WE KNOW ARE THE BEST RIGHT)

        • OldHat

Are you looking at different pictures? All the Marines have cod pieces. All of them. Actually… so do the ladies… huh.

          • SupPupPup
          • OldHat

That is a phallic codpiece, but they all weren’t that way. A codpiece is a piece of armor over the genitals. The Marines have them, at the least.

And thanks for the pic! That is just priceless.

          • SupPupPup

That is inaccurate. Though I am arguing semantics, while a codpiece tends to be a padded or armoured piece that accentuates the genitals, it can also be a cloth flap.

It however is the close fitting nature of a codpiece that defines it over other groin armour. It must be very least be closely draped over the protuberance.

See this early codpiece from Knossos as an example of other forms http://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/5e/24/36/5e24363a203eaa43e91b3b9f1eb9a9a8.jpg

          • Tshiva keln

You definitely wouldn’t want an errection whilst wearing that!

        • Atharius

Heaven forbid in a game where 99.9% of the models are either male or genderless the designers choose to make the female models stand out a little.

          • SupPupPup

I DEMAND MORE. How on earth can I tell that they are women without seeing their breasts. These are based on nuns, we must sexualise them, for it is in their character!

          • Atharius

Actually the only person sexualizing them is you. Women have breasts. Men don’t. It’s a good way to distinguish them when they’re wrapped in otherwise androgynous armour.

          • SupPupPup

OK, but isn’t really a representational problem with men in 40k. There are short fat guys, old guys, big guys, thin guys. Orcs, goblins, elfs, orangutans.

Women only ever tend to look like this. Its tiring.

Its so good to see the first plastic human females. Its really something, but to then go and give them metal boob socks. Its just a bit embarrassing.

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

Catachans have the honor of the first plastic human female models.

          • SupPupPup

Really? Any chance of a link, I can’t remember any, only the buff rambo chaps.

  • benn grimm

Looks amazing, about ten times better than Calth, which was already pretty awesome. Not sure on that voice actor for Ahriman though…

    • Daniel Hall

Its not Ahrimans voice actor from Black Library. Very irritating. though hes done tons of work for them.

      • benn grimm

He just sounds like 40k genericus maximus, I can imagine he gets lots of work in that role, but he doesn’t sound like Ahriman. To me anyway.

        • Budinski

Pretty sure that voice in the vid was Toby Longworth (a long time Heavy Ent. performer). Were you referring to Martyn Ellis from the Thousand Sons audio book?

          • benn grimm

I wasn’t referring to anybody, though Daniel may have been, best to ask him.

        • Firemind

He does all the voice work for gw trailers, all the ones that I’ve seen anyway. I do agree that his voice doesn’t fir Ahriman

  • Severius_Tolluck

Can’t believe Custodes, and SoS got plastics before SoB … but hey, looks cool. Lots of ideas now.

    • OldHat

Consider this a good sign. They look absurdly good and that means the (confirmed) future SoB release should blow our minds!

  • Havik110
    • MechBattler

Now the most popular meme on this site.

  • georgelabour

40k sisters of silence and Custodes rules have been mentioned..

  • good thing I have a paying job now. mark III armor will be perfect for my Iron warriors, both my 40k traitors and my 30k loyalists.

  • nurglitch

Mmmh, dat Tartaros armour would work so well with some Contemptors in support.

    • Runefyre

Also, is it just me, or do the Tartaros look beefier than the FW version?

I could just be seeing things though.

      • Eric Buchanan

I think its the angle. FW pics are all from a neutral or high angle, this low angle you can only see their beefy upper bodies. but when you see that they have been skipping leg days, I think the proportions would look the same.

      • nurglitch

I think all the plastic versions are beefied than the FW versions.

        • Alpharius

^This. Look at the resin MkIV with their skinny jeans.

  • Xodis

I just want the Custodes, Sisters and Arhiman….but I guess I can use some Wolves and have my new Deathwatch come save them lol

    • Dan Wilson

    • benn grimm

They don’t have to be wolves, they’re generic mk III’s, so they can be any legion you want them to be.

      • Xodis

True, Im a fan of MK4 over MK3 though, so maybe Ill make some trades 😀

        • benn grimm

Good plan, personally I’ve been waiting for plastic mk 3s since Calth, pretty stoked they’ve finally arrived 🙂

          • Xodis

….Ill keep that in mind hehe

          • benn grimm

Yeah, I don’t think you’ll have much trouble finding people willing to trade.

  • blackbloodshaman

sisters would make perfect dark elf executioners and custodes swordmasters. sigh if only wfb were still around

    • Firemind

You know you can still play the game, right? Im sure there are a lot of people who still play 8th, and there are quite a few fan comps around. You’ll have no problem finding people : )

  • rtheom

I am so torn on this. I’ve already bought so many copies of Calth that I really don’t need any more termies or tacticals, but I like the look of Mk III so much more than Mk IV…

    • Shinnentai

Yeah Mk III has always been a favourite of mine. Perhaps once FW release a conversion kit to make them Breachers? (if they do)

    • Randy Randalman

Can always convert, mix and match, start another Legion…

    • Alpharius

Do a different Legion? My Alphas are all uniform MkIV, but my Sons will be clad in iron!

  • Djbz

I’ve decided, That Ahriman model is going to be my 3rd Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer.

  • david

Sisters of silence, are they the battle sisters version of Deathwatch?
If they are, they look cool!
The Custodians have come along way too!The one I have is the original version that came out around 1989 as shown here:

    • usGrant7977

From what i know Sistets of Battle and The Sisters of Silence work for 2 different groups. The SoBs work for the Ecchlisiarchy. The SoS work for the Ordo Hereticus of His Inquisition. I could see them working together frequently, as both groups like to hunt wyches.

      • Alpharius

Sisters of Silence predate the Ordo Hereticus by thousands of years.

  • ghettohamburglar

    Those sisters… 8=========D ~o

  • david
  • Carey_Mahoney

    I’m delighted!

  • Fluffy the destroyer

The best part of this? that previous image’s wording has excited me severely.
‘pre ordering will include rules to use custodians and sisters of silence in horus heresy AND warhammer 40000’
    yes yes so much yes

  • Benderisgreat

Those Custodes are too close to Sigmarines for me, but the Sisters? Mmmmm gimme more of that. I’ll glad fork over Ahriman to trade for one of those.

  • Emperor’s Champion

I love the cinematic feel these boxes are getting.

  • Spit-Burn

Sisters of Silence unavailable for comment…

  • Corey Montgomery

Size Comparison that I found from Spikey Bits

    • MechBattler

Bigger than terminators. Hilariously enough, these custodes are probably the size Space Marines should be in terms of true scale compared to all the regular human sized models like guard, sisters, and whatnot.

  • Alpharius

I want to know the Custodian/Sisters rules so I know whether I need more than just the 5 of each that come in the box. 30 MkIII will be more than adequate for my needs, but I do need like 15 Tartaros.

  • Laurence J Sinclair

Sisters of Silence to convert into Sororitas. Good enough plastic sisters for now.

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

Sisters of Silence and Sisters of Battle don’t really look like one another…

      • Laurence J Sinclair

Head and weapon swaps, and those are some nice Superiors in artificer armour.

  • sweet, custodes!

  • MechBattler

Now I’m just wondering exactly how big a can of whoop-@ss those custodes are. They’re probably like a squad of Space Marine Captains in terms of damage output and survivability.

  • Still annoyed that Ahriman’s model doesn’t match the previously available artwork and descriptions from the books.

  • Mephiles

    “All is not yet dust!”

    The feels man.

    • Nyyppä

      U hungry?

  • eMtoN

    Okay, okay, I’ll buy it.

  • kevinharoun

What shade of red are those Thousand Suns?
