The release date for the new Star Trek series has been pushed back, and now it’s lost its show runner.

The issues with this project seem to be never ending. Last month CBS announced that they were pushing the series premier back from January to May of next year. The explanation was that the team needed more time to meet audience expectations, and perfect the special effects. I can’t blame them, especially after the trailer they showed at SDCC.

There’s no official cast list for a show that was supposed to start filming last month – there were complaints about not having a lead actor as late as yesterday. The set was supposed to be ready last month, and hasn’t been completed. CBS has said they will be ready to start filming next month. Maybe. Possibly. Kinda doubt it.

They pulled in two new producers in August. Yesterday it was announced that Bryan Fuller is leaving his showrunner position, and Akiva Goldsman is being brought in as a producer. He’s the guy behind such gems as Batman and Robin, The Da Vinci Code, I am Legend, and Insurgent. He has no formal connection to Star Trek.

I think we can all see where this is going…

CBS Interactive president Marc DeBevoise’s promise last month that:

“[we] have an amazing inaugural slate of originals for CBS All Access and world-class creative teams behind each of our shows. This lineup and release schedule will ensure we deliver the highest quality, premium series that are sure to appeal to both existing subscribers and new audiences alike, throughout the year”

…is feeling very hollow right now.
