Macharius, Sly Marbo & More Return

Solar-Macharius-horz

GW is bringing a lot of classics back to the tabletop – starting this weekend.

Just a few days back, GW announced their Made To Order line, saying that a selection of classic miniatures would be returning for collectors to purchase.  There were scant details, but today folks started chiming in with the first wave details of exactly what is included:

This first set is going to be made available October 15th (this weekend) and is composed of models from the classic range of Imperial Guard regiments, and some key special characters.  Here are some pics of some of these minis for you youngsters who don’t remember:

~Which ones are you most excited about?

  • Sonic tooth

no fantasy stuff? bummer. i dont collect 40k minis, was hoping for bretonnians

    • Walter Vining

its just only starting. be patient grass hopper

      • Sonic tooth

        great idea tho

    • Dumbcow1

I was hoping for Bretonnians too. Oddly enough for conversion FOR 40k, as I don’t collect fantasy =P

  • Carey_Mahoney

Some of them bring up instant conversion ideas. Let’s wait for the prices and see how they are compared to Ebay.

  • Karru

YAAAAAAAASSSS!!! I wanted to get more Kasrkin since Scions don’t fit IG army at all model-wise. Next up, I wish that they bring back some of the old Commissar Models, I’m in dire need of those!

    • Mr_Pickles

If GW had kept with these models for the aesthetic for tempestus, then i’d probably would have bought a small force of those guys.

      • Karru

I’ve said this ever since the Scion release. They should’ve stayed with the Kasrkin since it would’ve given Cadians Carapace Armour for their Veterans and Command Squads as well as the independent faction that they got with Scions.

    • petrow84

Really, all they ever needed was a plastic Armageddon infantry box… and the old Kasrkin figures back in the store.

  • Defenestratus

All you GSC fans – line up for your conversion models.

Also, paving the way for the traitor guard rules.

    • Ciaphas Cain

We already have them. the Renegades & Heretics list in IA:13 can be put together as Renegade Guardsmen, Cultists, Mutant Rabble, Daemon World Warbands, Dark Mechanicus or a few other things you might think of. I’m doing a Space Pirate army for example.

It really is a cool list.

  • Wonder if they will rerelease 1st edition Landraiders.

    • Highly unlikely. I’d even guess and say “surely not”.

      • I know.

        • Emprah

          Forge world already made it.

          • I don’t think it’s the same thing. I’m sure it’s actually larger.
So, they actually don’t make it they make something else.

    • BloodAngel

I am patiently waiting for them to release Mk I Rhino’s in plastic for a HH army. I have two boxes of Calth just waiting to be made into an army. I just don’t want to deal with the whole Forgeworld deal. I was hoping that when they said they were going to release a plastic HH line, that would at least include some basics. Not just a regurgitation of what is in the Calth box.

      • I’m just wanting old models to rebuild my 2nd edition armies.

        • SWISSchris

I bought about 10 old plastic rhinos on ebay over the last couple of years. One still on sprues, some never painted, most requiring a bit of stripping. They are out there! (destined to be part of full blood angels 3rd company with 2nd edition minis!)

          • I did see 2 or 3 onebay this year and Beakies! Scooping all that up would have cost muchless than trying to do the same thing with FW models. Oh well. haha.

    • Ciaphas Cain

Do they even have the mould anymore.

There is always the FW HH ones…

      • Don’t know. They said made to order. I’m really wondering how far back the catalog goes.

        • Ciaphas Cain

As far as the still have moulds?

          • I keep thinking that Made to order could be a really good move for them. rereleasing models, rules and even their old board games. All on a made to order/ in batches based on orders. Not just reproducing old mini’s. Which is still cool. What a world it would be.

  • An_Enemy

I’d rather see what the current design team could do with Macharius.

    • BloodAngel

I would love to see all these get new plastic too, but Hopefully not the sculptor that did Kharn. He is horrible looking.

    • OldHat

I am going to get a few to use as terrain, provided they aren’t stupid expensive.

  • Ryder Frankle

If they add the British colonial style imperial guard I’ma have to just sign over my pay check. Same goes for the old ork dredd with the pinchers and snap fit night goblins. Hell any OOP Orc/k and gobbo stuff.

    • Squirreli

Praetorian Guard? Yeah, would be really cool. Meanwhile, you can just grab Mordians and swap heads. At least Victoria Miniatures makes suitable heads. They do make full squads as well, but that doesn’t give the same classic feel to them.

  • Resin or metal?

    • Ed Butlar

      Exactly this

    • BloodAngel

Yes, I agree, we need to know that.

      • BloodAngel

Personally, I wasn’t a huge hater of finecast. I only bought finecast figs at the GW store and would open them there, so that a poorly cast, partial cast or cast with a lot of bubbles could be returned immediately and just keep returning them until I got one with a good cast. I ended up not having too many problems. Also I didn’t buy figs that the finecast would be a problem in the future, like with upheld swords that would end up curling or something.
Other than that, I was ok with it because it was light weight, Paint didn’t wear or chip off like it does on metal, the detail was nice and easily cut for conversions.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Kasrkin Stormtroopers in Finecast if they ended up doing them that way.

If I had to take a guess, I would say probably metal, as they are already set up for that. I don’t think any of these were done in finecast before.

    • Patrick John Magee

My gut says resin. I can’t see them changing old pewter moulds to work with plastic, from what i understand, it’s a easier to use resin with them.

      • I didn’t ask if plastic or resin, I asked if metal or resin 😉

  • BloodAngel

Have they indicated any price point? I imagine that if they are doing these in low quantities on request only, the prices could get ugly.

    • OldHat

Yea, that is my worry too. I want at least two Macharius, but …not if they are $20 or more.

  • Goodbye Cadians, hello the Mordian army I never got to finish!

  • Tesq

did any of these out of curiosity will have rules too?

  • Deathwing

Cadian Kasrkin were always great sculpts for inquisitorial troops.

  • good lord. Twelve years later, I’ll finally be able to finish those mordian and tallarn platoons !

  • Old zogwort

    MARBO!

Any Idea if he gets new rules ?

  • CF

    Praetorian Guard would be nice.

  • AwesomePizza

I was listening to a podcast a while ago about Amibos for Nintendo, and how it doesn’t make sense to discontinue stuff, and then let the resellers gouge your customers when you can make a profit.

Looks like GW realized. Wonder how far back the catalogue will go.

  • Fluffy the destroyer

Please let me get grimgor, please let me get grimgor, please please pleeeaaase!

  • Anti-Gravity

Macharius will be bought just out of respect. Interested in the back-catalog of other stuff, can’t wait!

  • Lord Solar Mac

So happy i own 90% of these! Benefits of playing since 2nd ed! Love my stormtroopers! Hopefully the price is right for these.

  • jcdent

KASRKIN KASRKIN KASRKIN. Oh, and Steel Legion Commissar is nice

  • DeadlyYellow

Suddenly wish standard Cadians looked more like the Kasrkin variants.

  • Chad Underdonk

Metal or Finecrap? I could use a few more special/heavy weapons for my Valhallans (get me up to about 4-500 dudesman!) but I don’t want to pollute their number with resin. I could get better quality recasts from a friend of mine if I wanted that.
