Overview: White Dwarf – October 2016

The October White Dwarf is out – Curious about what’s inside? Come take a peek at the new magazine!

Games Workshop’s latest White Dwarf has a lot of really great stuff inside this month – is it worth your money? You be the judge:

The “Free” item this month is issue “00” for the new Warhammer 40,000 Comic: Will of Iron. If you want to get another monthly 40k fix, check out the comic series from Titan Comics. You can check out our initial story of that right here.

As for the rest of the White Dwarf – here’s a quick look at the table of contents:

The issue is pretty jam packed with all things Games Workshop. Flipping through, this issue was heavy on the pictures of miniatures. There were some great shots from this year’s Golden Demon, pictures from the Armies on Parade & those crazy displays, and also tons of pics from the new Genestealer Cults, and a very thematic Blanchitsu.

The October White Dwarf also has a custom mission to play. It’s thematically appropriate for the Genestealer Cults, but you could use it for any army realistically. The 3 Big features this month involved the new Genestealer Cults, a feature on the Space Wolves’ Strike Force Mjalnar, and one of the largest plastic kits GW has ever made – Smaug.

Overall – I would have liked to see more features like last month’s with extra rules for all their board games, but you can’t always get what you want. It’s not a bad buy by any means – especially if you’re looking for some modeling inspiration! The October White Dwarf is out now, so go check it out.

October’s White Dwarf is here and with it the hidden dynasties of the Genestealer Cults arise across the galaxy! In this second issue of the great new monthly White Dwarf we take an in-depth look at this most insidious of threats, with Ultimate Guide, Designers’ Notes and an exclusive new mission all dedicated to the Genestealer Cults (and you can see them take on the Deathwatch in this month’s Battle Report).

But that’s not all – with 156 pages, it’s an absolute treasure trove beginning with a mammoth interview with Miniatures Design maestro Jes Goodwin!. And this month, we’ve also got an exclusive free Warhammer 40,000 comic from Titan, and you’ll find an interview with the creative behind in it in the magazine. Elsewhere, we’ve got a look at the Slayer Sword-winning entry from Golden Demon: Classic, the first of our new ’Eavy Metal Masterclasses, the second instalment of A Tale of Four Warlords, Blanchitsu and much, much more.

White Dwarf – The Genestealer Cult Edition!

Lots of good game designer chat around the Genestealer Cults, I really liked that.

And some beautiful pictures of models.

  • Shaggy21

An excellent issue. Having only bought the last 4 white dwarves including the new editions, the latest edition is a massive improvement on what I have previously read. The overall gw hobby chatter is interesting, whilst the model designing and golden demon sections are excellent. Even the sales/new release articles about GSC are really good. GSC ordered.

If they actually start putting rules content back in, I’d jump on a subscription in a minute.

Remember when they’d have alternative army lists and card inserts?

    *cries bitterly*

    • Ben_S

Yup. Though they used the card inserts as an excuse for a price rise and then started referring to them as free gifts. And, though I don’t remember when they stopped doing card inserts, I doubt the price went down again.

      • Commissar Molotov

They started up again recently – they had some objective cards for City Fight games, didn’t they?

        • Nyyppä

          That is a sweeeeet deck.

  • Kevin Maloney

Wait, I’ve been out of the loop. What were the previous free items?

    • Nyyppä

The better looking slaughterpriest for AoS.

      • The axe one looks way better, it’s probably the best face they’ve ever done

        • Nyyppä

You are the first person I hear saying that.

  • Horus84cmd

Smaug is a resin kit NOT plastic…..
