The Tabletop Spotlight is on Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous the Adventure Card Game.

Are you looking for a fun way to introduce friends to Role Playing? Maybe you’re in-between campaigns and you’re looking for a change of pace before the next one starts. Perhaps you’re looking for something to do during family gatherings this holiday season. Well our friends at Dragon’s Lair have an excellent suggestion: Why not give The Pathfinder Adventure Card Game a shot?

This base set has been out for a while – that’s one of the reasons we wanted to show it off. Wrath of the Righteous is a complete “story arc” and all the sets are actually out and available. So if you pick up the base set and enjoy it you can grab the rest of the adventures without having to wait for them to be published.

But let’s talk about what’s in the box. You get a wide assortment of heroes, each with their own abilities and stats. They all play slightly differently and overtime you’ll notice just how different because the characters can level-up. That’s right, as you play the game and progress through all the adventures you can “save” you progress and gain more abilities and gear. It’s not a new concept but the execution is done very well. I’d probably keep a note-pad as to not write on directly on the cards, but you could – it’s your set, you do what you want!

Gameplay wise, it’s pretty simple. Each player takes a turn traveling, exploring, fighting monsters, etc. The goal of an adventure is to explore the different locations and eventually close them after you’ve gotten all the good stuff. It’s a pretty straight forward game but that doesn’t make it easier. Each encounter is a little bit tougher than the last and each new adventure pack presents new challenges and upgrades. If you fail an adventure, well, reset and give it another go. But keep in mind they are designed to be played in order – skip an adventure at your own risk!

Overall, the art is nice, the “pick-up and play” RPG style of it lends it self to a recurring game night, and it’s great for folks who want to Role Play without having to worry about a DM. Learning to play is quick and the addition of dice to determine if you pass or fail challenges keeps it interesting. So if you’re like me and you want to get an RPG fix without all the setup, go check out Wrath of the Righteous, in stores now!

For decades, hordes of demons have ruled the Worldwound. Their Abyssal corruption has poisoned the land. Previous crusades did their best to contain the demonic invasion with the invaluable aid of a line of fortifications enhanced with magical wardstones. Yet of late, many of the crusaders have become complacent or simply fatigued from an endless war, while all along, the foul masterminds of the demonic invasion have built a deadly plan. They want to expand the Worldwound’s Abyssal corruption past the wardstones and spread their evil across the entire world!

Whether you’re a stalwart crusader or a simple mercenary, the Storm King’s profane machinations will soon surround you. The time has come to live up to your true mythic potential and become a legendary hero in the world of Golarion! In an adventure unlike any other, the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Wrath of the Righteous Base Set will take you into the depths of the Abyss—and back again! This complete cooperative strategy game pits 1 to 4 heroes against the monsters, temptations, corruption, and treachery of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game’s popular Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path. Choose your character’s class, build a deck of equipment and allies, and explore dangerous locations as you play through multiple scenarios in an exhilarating mythic fantasy adventure. Characters grow in potency and potential, learning expert skills, gaining magical might, and adding powerful boons to their decks. All of this will prepare them to surmount greater obstacles through a complete Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Adventure Path.
