40K & AoS RUMORS: New Battleforce Boxed Sets

Looks like those “Premium Start Collecting Boxes” are heading your way – Here come new Battleforce Boxed Sets!

Games Workshop appears to have some new Big Box Sets on the way. Looks like those rumors from earlier may have been onto something.

Update: via Games Workshop

Our friends at Games Workshop wanted you all to see these:

Now, the date might be throwing off our US readers – 3.12.16 is December 3, 2016. That fits within the timeline we’re expecting from Games Workshop with the Holiday bundles and deals.

As for the AoS Battleforces? Check this out:

via Chikout

“No pic of the aos stuff but the contents are as follows:
Stormcast – celestant prime, knight azyros, dracoth riders, 10 liberators.
Slyvaneth – drycha, treelord 6 kurnoth hunters, 10 tree revenants. (This may be a mistake. It is a better deal than the rest)
Ironjawz – megaboss, shaman, 10 brutes, 3 goregruntas, giant.
Khorne bloodbound- skar, 3 juggers, blood warriors, bloodreavers, wrathmongers.”

That lines up with the previous rumors as well:

via Stealgaze 11-14-2016

Local store had Christmas catalog in which said they would be available 03.12.16
Sigmar was stormcast, iron jaws, bloodbound and sylvaneth from memory. And price was £100.

Iron jaw box was 10 brutez, 3 gore grunters, 1 shaman, 1 mega boss on foot and a giant (Aleguzzler Gargant I think)

Time will tell if these AoS Battleforces pan out. Until then…

So what do you think about these new 40k Battlefroce boxed sets? How about those AoS ones?

  • 301stFeinminsterArmoured

3 of those look actually useful to me. Couldn’t care less for the SW box though.

  • OldHat

Ooooh. I hope there are some nifty rules for that AdMech force. Any excuse to put the robots on the table!

    • Mr.Gold

to be honest i just need the rules for the formation… I already have many models for admech & skitarii.

      • Shawn

Which is funny, becuase I’m the opposite. I bought mostly skitarii, so the only models in the set I already have are the infiltrators. And, I wouldn’t mind owning another unit. Of course, that would mean I’d need to get the cult mechanicus codex too.

      • OldHat

Same here. Hope it is good!

  • Xodis

Interested in the Space Wolf and Deathwatch…..depending on price of course.

    • stiff77

£100 apparently. So about $165 US? (going by Deathwatch prices)

      • Xodis

Yeah, I’m hoping that’s off a bit lol

        • Isolfr

I just looked at the conversion rate and it’s like 125
Not sure how much it’ll actually be

          • Xodis

Nice, that sounds much more palpable.

          • ZeeLobby

Yeah. We’ll see. GW has never been one to follow conversion rates closely. If they know you’ll pay $150, they’ll charge that much. I wouldn’t hate being surprised tho :D.

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

Originally reports were that this was going to be worth 2 Start Collecting. So 85 x 2 = 170

          • Karru

The current price of Deathwatch Overkill is 100£. It’s $165 in the US site.

          • ReverendTiberiusJackhammer

Although not impossible, I somewhat doubt they’ll change their exchange rate pricing to reflect the post-Brexit slump in the pound.

  • Red_Five_Standing_By

Darn, I was hoping the Stormcast box would have different units. I just bought a bunch and have all of those units (expect the Dracoth Riders).

  • Captain_Garadon

And for those of you, who are wondering what AoS players will get….

  • frankelee

$200 for 16 miniatures? The savings, ooooooh, the savings!!!!

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

      Brutes: 50
      Brutes: 50
      Gore Gruntas: 79
      Aleguzzler: 53
      Weirdnob: 33
      Megaboss: 40

      Total: 305
      Savings: 105
      Savings Percent: 35%

      Seems pretty awesome to me.

      • Vicent Martín Bonet

And it’s literally everything you need to play an IJ army: 540pts of battleline, 240 of bosses, gargant, it all together nets you somewhere around 1000pts so you can make matched play from the get go (assuming the formation will grant the gargant the IJ keyword, which is something many think will happen)

        • Red_Five_Standing_By

Even if the formation does not grant the keyword, you can still run everything together under the Destruction keyword. 🙂

          • Michael Costa

You couldn’t because you would have no battleline::)

  • Matt Czuzak

What a great time to be a death player

    • Xodis

Yeah, I’m hoping that even though there isn’t anything for Death now, they will have another awesome set coming out soon.

    • Vicent Martín Bonet

Dude, you have vlagorescu’s court. Sure it MAY be a bit more expensive but you get around 100$ of savings there.

  • Sixko

So a battleforce box bellonging to the faction “Adeptus Mechanicus”? I find that very interesting seeing as the box contains units from both “Skitarii” and “Cult Mechanicus”….are they finally making them one faction?

    • James Waller

both codex have the word Codex Adeptus Mechanicus at the top, next revision it would make sense to merge them.

  • Yuki

This post made my morning. I can’t wait for these to go on sale, I’ve been holding out on buying DW since launch hoping to find a deal or a more favorable new army release. lol @ admech.. it was looking like a alright addition to my existing army till i saw electro priest.

  • ZeeLobby

Wish the FW one came with the flier…

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

      FW? Forge World?

      • ZeeLobby

        Sorry, DW. Autocorrect FTL…

        • Djbz

          Always with the autocorrect nonsense.

Am I the only person that turns that stupid thing off?

          • EnTyme

Pretty much the first setting I change when I get a new phone. Ever since the incident when I accidentally asked my girlfriend to pick up some Kentucky Fried Children for dinner.

          • Karru

What Children did you want then? Would you rather boil them or cook them inside an oven?

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

          • ZeeLobby

It’s great when I’m rapidly texting my wife about normal life things. But it mangles the hell out of anything gaming related, lol.

        • Roughneck

GW already do a bundle with a flier called the Black Spear Strike Force

          • ZeeLobby

A bundle that costs as much as buying things separately is no bundle at all.

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

Saves you the hassle of an unnecessary click though 😉

          • ZeeLobby

Haha. True. Much better than any savings :D.

          • Roughneck

Just because you save nothing doesn’t mean it’s not a bundle. While I agree that you you should make savings that has nothing to do with the point you made as there is a bundle for what you wanted.

          • ZeeLobby

Ah. So you’re just being cheeky. You knew what I meant. The “bundle” they offer doesn’t even box them together. It’s like clicking the “frequently bought together” link on Amazon. Lol.

          • Roughneck

Yes and no as it is a bundle. After all, a bundle is just a collection of items together, they don’t have to be in the same box or save you money by definition.
I think people seem to confuse the term bundle with formation box as we’ve been spoiled with the SC boxes etc.

          • ZeeLobby

I honestly think people confuse GW’s definition of a bundle as opposed to pretty much every other company’s portrayal of a bundle. In my lifetime of being a consumer, GW has been the only company whose bundle included no savings whatsoever. Gaming consoles, PCs, etc. All offer discounts when things are bundled together. GW is the anomaly not the norm. By the base definition everything you buy is a bundle as it’s wrapped and shipped together.

          • Roughneck

Yes and no again with your reasoning on this.
There are bundles in other businesses that are sometimes the same price as buying the items individually, but it’s more convenient to buy them all at once. This is what GW have previously targeted in the past by the looks of it.
The definition you gave means items placed together, just because that is the case it doesn’t have to come in one new shiny box.
So bundle and savings while not mutually exclusive can go hand in hand, which from what you say has to be its defining characteristic, unfortunately as I pointed out this isn’t a requirement to make a bundle, making a saving is just a nice bonus to have when buying one.

    • polyquaternium7

      yeah me to

  • Oggthrok

That Giant seem out of place to anyone else? I feel like the Ironjaws need to beat out some pig-iron giant armor for that lad… otherwise he’s a little underdressed for their company.

    • EnTyme

I’m hoping the formation somehow gives the giant the Ironjaws keyword. Otherwise you break the allegiance, and Ironjaws don’t have any battline units.

      • Red_Five_Standing_By

I am sure it will be given the keyword. Otherwise, yeah, why bother?

      • luke snell

guessing it at least has special battalion rules for the box, but yeah, they would be stretching their rules if you were still able to maintain the Ironjaws allegiance with the giant in your army. if they don’t even give it to other orcs I can’t imagine them extending such a courtesy. unfortunately.

  • Mr.Gold

    Kastellans: £42
    Kataphrons: £35
    Dragoon: £29.50
    Sicarians: £28
    Electro-Priests: £25

    Total: £159.50

should probably be less than Calth & Overkill etc. so lets say about £90 – £100 therefore about £60 in savings…

  • BonoBox

Why mechanicus is 10 miniatures short compared to the other boxes?

    • Dan Wilson

The Kastellans, Ironstrider, and Kataphrons are all overpriced.

    • James Waller

to be fair the Tau is only bumped up by the number of drones which to me are upgrades to the kit.

  • Painjunky

I cant wait for a DE or ork battlebox!

    • BodyMassage

Or Nids or Eldar or pretty much anything not Imperial related…

  • BodyMassage

Just to make sure I’m understanding- these are the only premium boxes? The other armies aren’t getting a premium box?

    • el_tigre

I imagine it’ll be like the start collecting boxes, if these sell well enough, and I imagine they will, we’ll see an expanded range soon enough.

  • Thedinosaur

Pretty keen to see what the formations are for these!!!

  • CF

The AdMech Eradication Cohort is interesting … a mix of Skitarii and Cult Mech models. One assumes we’ll see that rumored combined AdMech codex or if these 40k End Times continue perhaps a unified AdMech force in an upcoming campaign book featuring their own Detachment (that special Cohort Mechanicus datasheet would make for a nice detachment).

At this point I assume the FW Red Scorpion/AdMech vs Tau book won’t arrive until next year. Perfect time to release a few more models on the GW side to flesh out the AdMech force and coincide with a FW army list combing the GW stuff with the FW Mechanicum ranges.

    • Vicent Martín Bonet

Ehm… how to say this: they’ve kinda have been doing the same from the very beginning. War convocation, the start collecting skitarii, etc. It’s not something they seem planning to do, just that there’s a lot of synergy between the armies.

  • James Waller

Interesting to see what the formations are as the Mechanicus is the only one without a dedicated HQ unit in the box.

  • Benoit Tremblay

if the rumours are true, that means the Mechanicus box is worth over 350$ canadian and will retail for 175$-200$. very cool

  • Andrew Yeo

calculated $275 usd on the website
