Pimpcron reviews this ominous looking game mat. You would know that if you read the title.

Hey, hey folks! I’m back with a review for the Fallen Earth game mat from Gamemat.eu.

These mats are exactly the same quality and detail as you’d expect from a gaming mat in this day and age. They are made of the standard mouse pad material and come with a handy carrying case. All of that is great, but pretty standard and exactly what you expect. It’s waterproof, rolls up easily, lays flat without any creases or weird corners, and provides cushion for falling models, and models slide easily on it. It has some weight to it so it doesn’t wrinkle.

One thing that I am intrigued by with this mat is that it is so dark. Nearly every mat out there uses a light color palette; I’m not sure it is pre-meditated. It has probably just happened for one reason or another as the industry developed. But what I really like about this mat is that it uses such a dark palette of color and contrasts that with lava glowing through the cracks. If they had used a lighter main color tot he mat you’d never notice the lava.

I just recently played an Age of Sigmar game in the Realm of Fire against a friend named Justin. I took a bunch of pictures of how I set it up with terrain, but of course you set it up the way you like.

I also like the detail in it. Even though it may seem like there wouldn’t be much room for detail on a dark mat, they have highlighted all of the cracks with lighter colors just as you would dry brushing terrain.

I’m not sure how they do it, but many of their mats look photo-realistic when it comes to rocks, sand, and craters. Even though they are printing on the fabric layer of the mouse pad material, they are able to achieve very high detail.

Ya know, I have a hard time rating a product like this on a number scale, because the quality and durability of the mat is great. But I can’t imagine how you could make a mat better than it already is, quality-wise. So every mat would get a 5/5. But what I can tell you is that these mats are a great deal for their price, and gamemat.eu has a bunch of different styles to choose from.

So it really comes down to preference. I really like this mat and it works great for the Fire Realm in AoS, as well as a Death World in 40k or a Daemon World in 40k. I like the different color palette compared to most, and I am actually basing my Khorne army in AoS to match this map because this will be their home turf. So if this one doesn’t strike you design-wise, then go check their others; I’m sure you’ll find one that you like. And for the price, you just can’t beat it.

    They have some great stuff.

    • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

yeah, I love the Quarantine Zone and Mayhem Square mats.

      • ZeeLobby

Damn, I really want that 4×4 quarantine zone now, haha.

        • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

seriously, it is the best mat I have ever seen.

        • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Gahhhh. It’s real cool. Well, it’ll be in my next order of things, lol.

  • euansmith

Can you iron it? From what I understand on this site, all the best mats come in boxes and need ironing 😉

    • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Isn’t that whole box/iron thing typically bizarre of GW?

      • ZeeLobby

it just shows how out of touch they are with the gaming world. I almost wouldn’t be shocked if they designed and came up with the idea behind those mats without even looking at the competition. Under the assumption that their way is the only right way.

        • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

          Yep, seems possible!

      • euansmith

Indeed. I think they are trying to get some Mantic Magic to rub off on them by doing bizarre things to sabotage their own projects.

    • I don’t know if they can be ironed, but it doesn’t have to be. They come rolled up and lay flat instantly. And hey, ya gotta live somewhere. 🙂

    • taithays

I don’t know but their mats come rolled up in a bag so you wouldn’t have to fold them and iron them.

Thanks Pimpcron. I’ve never heard of teh company, but will be sure to check them out.

    • Cool! I They also have some of the best prepainted terrain. Because I’m lazy and don’t like to paint terrain.

      • Shawn

Okay. I’ll keep that in mind as well, lol.

Their Industrial Set is pretty darn cool; though the stacks of pipes seem like a bit of an odd after thought.
