GW: Blood Bowl Upcoming Team Teasers

Games Workshop has a few hints for the future of Blood Bowl beyond the first season – Are more teams on the way?

The short answer is “yes” – but do we have proof? Well lets look at the evidence:

Blood Bowl Death Zone Season One

60040999002_deathzoneeng01Aside from the fact that the book is “Season One!” (implying that there are more seasons to follow) we also have this info from the description:

Details for 7 team types (Skaven, Nurgle, Dwarf, Elven Union, High Elf, Dark Elf and Wood Elf) with background, rosters and famous examples of each;

Star Players! Eldril Sidewinder, Griff Oberwald, Grim Ironjaw, Guffle Pusmaw, Hakflem Skuttlespike, Jordell Freshbreeze, Mighty Zug, Morg ‘n’ Thorg, Prince Moranion, Roxanna Darknail and Varag Ghoul-Chewer – they’re a  in there;

official reference guides for each of the 7 team types in the book.

Of course we new the Skaven were on the way as the third team. The Skavenblight Scramblers are already on back-order from GW’s site if that’s any indication as to their popularity…

Some Eagle-Eyed folks have also been perusing the artwork as well and have noticed this picture:

That’s a Dark Elf player AND a Goblin. That shouldn’t suprise anyone either – heck there are 3 Elf teams listed above. And lets not forget about the Dwarf Teams we saw too:

So it’s just a matter of time before the Dwarf team comes rumbling out of the gate too. Now, here’s the last bit I wanted to show off direct from the Blood Bowl Page:

“Charging to fame and glory behind their Star Players, Blood Bowl teams are drafted, drilled and deployed onto pitches from the snake-infested jungles of Lustria to the ice-capped peaks of the Worlds Edge Mountains.”

That looks like 8 teams worth of races right there. Not to mention a Beastman, Lizardman, Wood Elf and a different uniform for a Goblin…

Now, until I see some official GW pictures of the other team (Lizardmen, Beastmen, Elves and Goblins) I’m trying to stay measured about my response. However, there is a part of me that is thrilled at the thought of all of these teams coming to the game – and it’s not even officially out yet!

I’m really hoping that Games Workshop produces these Blood Bowl teams at a good rate. The Orcs and Humans in the box are a great start, so are the Skaven. But if we’re being honest 3 teams does not make a league! There are only so many games I can play with my friends were we have the exact same lineups before we start getting bored.

My fingers are crossed that GW cranks out these other teams sooner rather than later so players don’t lose steam. I know this is only the first season and I know they have a plan (it’s kind of obvious at this point) – I just hope it doesn’t take forever to implement. I’d hate to see Blood Bowl fall of the map before it even gets it’s footing in the larger scene.

With Dwarfs on the way, which Blood Bowl teams would you like to see next?

  • Darksied

it’s actually 4 elf teams listed not three. That aside, I’m fairly hopeful, assuming sales hold for it. The only teams I’m worried may not return are Khemri, Halflings, and Chaos Dwarves (though I’d not be surprised to them appearing from forgeworld all things considered).

    • Meant to reply to you. Don’t worry, all teams with official rules from previous editions will have rules available in PDF form day 1. So you only need to worry if you play Simyins, Chaos Pact, or Slann.

      • Moses Jones

I think that they will have Chaos pact. Simyians, Slann, Brets and Khorne are the only teams that are not in the official rules.

        • LordRao

          Forest Folk.

          • Moses Jones

I forgot about forest folk, wow, it’s been a long time.

        • Whoops, yeah, total brain fart, Khorne, not Pact.

  • Andy Hoare and James Hewitt did an interview on Skulls and Ones podcast, they made it clear that rules for all official teams would be published in PDF form on day 1 of release, even including Underworld. No teams that they’ve ever made minis for are disappearing, the only teams which wont have rules are Simyins (fan rules anyhow), and Slann (never had minis), though he did make it sound like they could enjoy rules in the future, if everything goes well.

So that said, don’t be worry about your Khemri, Halflings, or Chaos Dwarfs, they’ll all have rules available come Saturday, and those rules are likely to be the same they were in the last edition, you can read them here if you like:

  • While I’m not interested in BB really, I may pick up a team to paint just for kicks. I wonder / dread what prices FW will charge for a team once all the plastics are released.

I’d like to see a Norse team and a new take on the CD.

  • generic eric

Halflings! Looking forward to a new treeman model. Also looking forward to a lizard man team.

  • Simon

Just because all the old teams get rules, it doesn’t mean they all get new dolls as well. However, like most of you, I remain hopeful.

    • There is so much 3rd party support it hardly matters. Even at current leagues at Warhammer World, it appears that they allow 3rd party minis. Hopefully that doesn’t change.

  • Laurence J Sinclair

That line-up of players is an image produced for the video game. I wouldn’t read too much into it regarding team model styles, given how different the Orc and Human kits have already become.

    • Seienchin

Oh THANK GOD and thank you for clarifying! The dwarf miniatures look soooooo absolutely awful and riddiculous I nearly got a heart attack since I only ever play Norse (Not in the remake for sure) and dwarfs in blood bowl…

  • Krizzab

    want chaos dwarves… nao !

  • Dennis Finan Jr

This looks cool. Warhammer and football, sadly my only vices hahah

  • dave long island

GW will provide. Rest ye your troubled head. GW will provide. Yay verily.

  • Bryan Ruhe

  • Andy Meechan

Dwarves, Nurgle, and Elf Union all in plastic according to chats I had with the team during Warhammer Fest in May.

  • Dan Prosser

All I want are some lizardmen and a team of skeletons, then I can be happy. Then maybe some dwarfs to make sure I’m happy. And then some goblins for good measure
