Warhammer 40,000: Planetary Onslaught (Hardback) $40

Invasion and conquest in the 41st Millennium

Across the vast galactic expanses of the Imperium of Man, a desperate war of survival has raged for more than ten thousand years. Countless savage battles are being fought at any given moment – and none rage more fiercely than those fought between an invading army and a desperate defending force.

The Book

The 112-page hardback supplement Planetary Onslaught brings together and updates the rules for 3 Warhammer 40,000 expansions – Planetstrike, Stronghold Assault and Cities of Death – and presents them as stages of planetary conquest. Play them individually, or string the three different sets of rules together to create an epic campaign that tells the story of the fate of an entire world! One player assumes the role of aggressor, and the other defender, playing through the three phases with additional rules tying the whole campaign together into a single, brutal Planetary Onslaught.

There’s also a huge array of updated datasheets for Fortifications and Fortification Networks, new Siege War missions, and full campaign trees for Planetstrike, Stronghold Assault and Cities of Death games.

Skavenblight Scramblers $35

The only team to have ever won the Blood Bowl trophy two years on the run (Blood Bowl XVII and XVIII, fact fans,) the Skavenblight Scramblers are at least a bit legendary. They’ve had a run of bad luck since then, but since the recent appointment of their new head coach Sandch Blackpelt, they’ve seen a new lease of life. Being Skaven, they naturally have a love for absolute, mindless violence, and their recent uptick in confidence and aggression has seen them elected Team of the Year 2493 in Spike! Magazine. Perhaps another trophy is within their grasp…

This multi-part plastic kit contains the components necessary to assemble the Skavenblight Scramblers, a team for use in games of Blood Bowl. You’ll receive 2 Blitzers, 2 Throwers, 2 Gutter Runners and 6 Linemen, and a roster sheet. Supplied with a transfer sheet, turn markers, extra balls, and 12 Citadel 32mm Round bases featuring holes to keep the ball in.

The Beast Arises: The Beheading (Hardback) $17.50

Across the length and breadth of the galaxy, humankind celebrates its salvation, and relishes the prospect of a return to peace. But the war against the orks has riven the political bedrock of the Imperium, exposing its rotten core. One man, one powerful man, decides he has the solution, and launches a campaign of destruction so terrible that thousands of years later his actions will still be viewed with horror.

Throughout the series, the political machinations have been as fascinating and compelling as the all-out action – and now it’s time for that to take centre stage as assassination and plotting takes over from brutal combat.

Blood Bowl New Releases $171.50

Blood Bowl + Death Zone Season One Book + Skavenblight Scramblers Box + Skavenblight Scramberls Dice Set.

I can’t wait for my friends to get some Blood Bowl teams ready to go! Season One, here we come!

  • TheNickelEye

I thought that the new BB teams would be coming with themed pitches and dugouts. Will they be coming out separately or not at all?

I have a painted human team with 20+ models and two separately painted Orc teams, so if I could get the “new version” stuff without buying the Human/Orc starter I would be thrilled. Unfortunately, I don’t know if/when an alternative will come.

    • ZeeLobby

I sincerely doubt theyll do that. They dont really release model-less starters.

      • JPMcMillen

But there’s always a way. For example, you never had to buy the starter set for the different editions of 40k. You could just buy the big book and the pack of templates and you were good to go.

GW may find Blood Bowl a hard sell to former players who don’t need new models if there’s isn’t some way to get the rules, card, & templates separately. As I don’t think there’s anything team specific about those Skaven dice they could be used for any team.

Maybe if enough people go to the GW stores, not buy the game when offered, and complain about being forced to buy mini’s they don’t want/need and just want the rules and accessories, GW may get a clue.

        • ZeeLobby

Eh. I think you’ll struggle to find people with the old minis who aren’t looking to pick up the new ones. The humans are just OK, but the Orks look awesome. GW are first and foremost a model company. I don’t see them going out of their way to release boxes without models. I’d be happy to see otherwise, but it’d be truly shocking based on how GW has approached releases since really their inception.

          • JPMcMillen

Given that Blood Bowl still had a loyal following there were still people out there playing it. Also, there are countless small mini companies out there producing ‘fantasy football’ minis so there was obviously still a market for them. So there are plenty of people out there that have already invested money and time into the miniature team (or teams) of their choice.

Outside the UK, the vast majority of GW’s player base isn’t anywhere near a GW store and even those are may not frequent it. Therefore the ‘only GW minis allowed’ rules won’t apply there. They also won’t be able to stop 3rd part or homemade pitches and templates being used at non-GW stores.

GW may be a miniatures company, but it’s still a company and it’s main goal is to make money. So if enough people balk at buying the new edition because they don’t want to pay for stuff they already have or don’t want (i.e. humans & orks). Or maybe GW will notice the inevitable flood of EBay listings for the human team, the ork team, to the game without a team to realize that they are missing out on an untapped market.

          • frank

i think GW will release the books as a separate product if they sell enough of the game boxes but i think they are aware that their are many 3rd party producers who never stopped making minis for the game and people who own the previous editions. i think with the release of the box set they probably not in a rush to stop potential purchases from die hard who see a reasonably priced starter set even if they have same teams in a previous incarnation.

      • Statham

The upcoming Adeptus Titanicus being an exception. That still strikes me as incredibly weird, though.

        • JPMcMillen

That game is reported to be done in a slightly larger scale than the old Epic game used. That means that the old models will be incompatible with the newer stuff. So unless you are wanting to wait till faction specific stuff comes out (ork, eldar, etc…) it may be a while before we see a non-mini’s release of the rulebook.

          • Statham

But what I mean is the starter box for AT will literally have no minis. It’ll just have the stuff to play with, and the miniatures will be released separately. So they’re totally doing a rules/play gear only release, but that just strikes me as a bit weird.

          • JPMcMillen

Really. I could have sworn that the starter came with a few titans. Well that’s good news.

    • arkhanist

I’m sure rules and non-model bits will be available from box-splitters on ebay.

    • Horus84cmd

At open days the games designers have said that alternative pitches/dugouts etc.. is something they are considering; depending on the demand and success of the re-launch.

  • generic eric

How long is a season? When is season 2?

    • frank

from what I gather a season inst an actual time length as much as it is the current expansion to the rules they are on.

      • ZeeLobby

Yeah. Hoping season 2 arrives soon. Know people interested in teams not so far released.

        • Ross Webb-Wagg

Season 2 maybe Dungeon Ball, hopefully undead, vampires, goblins, halflings, ogres, Norse and chaos/demons teams. Bit annoyed that over half the teams in Dead Zone are elves.
