The first teaser has arrived – the sequel is taking us on a journey beyond Los Angeles.

Denis Villeneuve is in the directors chair this time; with veteran directer of photograpy Roger Deakins, and a screenplay written in part by Ridley Scott. This is the official synopsis:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

There’s not a lot there to really make a call on. The movie is in post-production right now, they have time to get the scenery cleaned up and the CG up to par. I really hope they’re using some practical effects instead of going the pure CG route. It’s worked well for ILM, maybe Paul Lambert and the crew at Double Negative Effects (you’ll want to watch their show reel – it’s impressive) will follow suit.

Maybe we’ll still get that opening scene Scott talked about last year. We are not, however, getting a new score from Vangelis. The score is being handled by Oscar nominee Jóhann Jóhannsson, and it sounds like he’s wisely taking cues from the score from 1982.

Blade Runner 2049 is due out October 6, 2017 – just in time for Oscar season.
