The Tabletop Spotlight is on the U-Wing Expansion for X-Wing!

Rogue One is in theaters and one of the new ships to grace the screen is the new Rebel U-Wing. Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought over a new copy for us to take a look at:

The model for the U-Wing looks great! It wings do actually move and the paint job on our model looks great. The pre-paint technology has come a long way and the U-Wing is taking advantage of it for sure.  This is another big model for the Rebel squadrons out there and it comes with a quite a few tricks. We’ve covered most of those before and we talk about each card in the video, so I won’t re-hash all that here. But I will share some thoughts on how I see this ship getting used.

This ship is very similar to the Lambda Shuttle for the Imperials. It’s got two crew slots, a torpedo slot and a sensor slot. It’s also got some speed when it counts. Only a Andor has access to an EPT however. FFG wrote about how this should would make a fantastic blocker – and while I do agree – I think there is some hidden potential with my favorite pilot of the bunch: Bodhi Rook.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again (in another article I’ve been stewing on) – Bodhi Rook’s ability is really powerful if you know how to use it. Think about it, any ship with Weapons Engineer just got even better. In many ways this ship can function like the Lambda:

Only Bodhi Rook’s ability is squadron wide! If you were having trouble locking on to targets now that problem will be solved. Running the U-Wing with some gunboats/missile boats seems like a really good way to up the efficiency of those oh-so-troublesome Advanced Proton Torpedoes. (Okay, that’s still a stretch, but if you can make it work more power to you!)

I have been toying around with the concept of Bodhi + a bunch of cheap Z-95’s with something in the missile slot. That list seems to write itself. But I’ve got ideas…But I’d like to hear yours as well. What do you think of the U-Wing?

U-wing Expansion Pack

The Rebel Alliance used the U-wing to deploy troops under the cover of darkness or into the midst of dangerous situations. You can use the U-wing Expansion Pack for X-Wing™ to transport Jyn Erso and the other heroes of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story straight to your tabletop. It features one highly detailed and pre-painted miniature U-wing with articulated wings that can pivot back and forth, along with four ship cards and fourteen upgrades. Conduct espionage. Promote Rebel bravery. Pivot your ship’s wings to real effect. The U-wing Expansion Pack makes it all possible.
