Massive Spoilers below: You have been warned!

Still here? Well here we go!

Round-up via Spikey Bits

This book starts in Commorragh, and is set in a witch gladiatorial pit, feeding on the pain of others. It’s pretty much the grand circus of the Witch Cult Strife.

Yvraine was born on Biel Tan, left Craft World after she got in trouble, for possibly killing a seer?

She may have been an Aspect Warrior, a Witch, and a Corsair.

Yvraine gets stabbed and mortally wounded in the pits by Lilith, and as she lays dying a mote of energy enters her, spirit shard, and brings her back to life

She becomes the prophet for the Eldar God of the Dead fulfilling the actions the Eldrad had accomplished in the Death Masque Lore

She is the first Eldar to be killed and reborn, and now she gains souls of nearby dying Eldar.

The Dark Eldar are worried about Yvraine and her magic abilities because Pykers can bring the attentions of Slaanesh to the City of Commorragh!

The Visarch helps her escape Commorragh, as he knows who Yvraine is.

The Visarch has a Incubi, Harlequin, Eldar appearance about him, wearing traditional Eldar armor. A lot of Incubi follow him.

A split in infinite matrix causes the fracture in Biel-Tan which results in the birth of the Avatar of Yneead, constructed of all Eldar souls in the space that was at the center of Biel-Tan.

A lot of witches and Incubi follow Yvraine as she is Druchii.

This book happens at the same time as gathering storm, takes the Eldar story to the same point in time as the Fall of Cadia.

It’s going to contain rules for the 3 main characters, as well as rules for making an army that follows the God of the Dead.

You lose previous special army rules but gain a new special rule: Your Eldar units are fueled by death. When an Eldar unit dies, their souls enter nearby Eldar living units. Your living units become more powerful.

The Ynarri is a new race.

Black Guardians are back. They carry close combat weapons and shuriken pistols.

They were assault versions of Guardians

Aeldari forces

Well that certainly explains few things! We now have a clearer picture from those formations that broke. This seems to be a new subfaction of Eldar forming, the Ynarri, and they look like they are going to have a mix of Dark Eldar and Eldar from all over the place. We also now know why it’s called “Fracture of Biel-Tan” and the Infinity Circuit sounds like it has a malfunction.

Again, it’s important that it’s Biel-Tan’s craftworld that had the issue because, as we mentioned in the theory thread and in the lore article a few days ago, Biel-Tan hosts the Chamber of Heroes:

via Lexicanum

“At the centre of Biel-tan is the Chamber of Heroes where the spirit stones of dead Aspect Warriors are placed. Farseers often come to this room to consult the dead on courses of action.”

First Cadia, now Biel-Tan…This Gathering Storm sure is shaking things up – and I can’t wait to see more!

  • Private Skittles

This is Hierarch Artanis, commanding the Shield of Aiur! Our matrix fields are within range! Engaging mass recall!

      My Life…For Aiur

    • karloss01

I wonder why blizzard never moved into table top gaming. I would love some Hydralisk models.

    • David Leimbach

The Visarch reminded me of the protoss too. Cool.

  • pokemastercube .

meanwhile tau, nids and orks are having tea and watching the madness unfold

    • rtheom

Hey man, ‘nids know they can wait and just eat all the bodies after it’s done. Why waste all that energy killing your prey when it will do the work for you? 😀

      • Jim Morr

Warp tainted meat is bad for your genome…

        • rtheom

Peh, just sprinkle on some Shadow in the Warp and all that nasty chaos just melts away!

    • nurglitch

Ain’t no party like a Xenos tea party.

    • Old zogwort

Dear bug eyed beasts and canned fishes,
there have been some rumors of our no fun neighbors having a get together without inviting us. Lets show them how to party and randevu at Moredakka.

      Ps There will be tea

    • Orks were busy ravaging Armageddon just until last week in-universe, Tau are still busy at the Damocles Gulf and got two whole campaign books a little over a year ago, and Nids are still active around Baal and tying up Blood Angels, along with Necrons.

  • So… these Aspect Warriors we see are reborn dead Eldar from the Chamber of Heroes?

  • Ravingbantha

Sweet malingering muppets, this is almost exactly the general idea behind my ‘Halloween’ themed Eldar army.

  • Emperor’s Champion

hmm, I wonder if maugan ra and Altansar will play a key part since story too. Also my home craft world Yme-loc would be a cool thing to see referenced too.

    • DaveTycho

I hope so too. Those red and black dire avengers just makes me think “Altansar copycats!”

      • Emperor’s Champion

yeah thats what i thought too. but it’d be a wasted opportunity not to include and expand Altansar/Maugan Ra’s story with the fluff update of Ynnead

  • Aezeal

It’s good that the weak Eldar units get more powerfull when their teammates die.

    • Spacefrisian

Wait till necrons get a selfrepair rule using the body parts of there slain comrads..

  • Kolobius

“Black Guardians are back. They carry close combat weapons and shuriken pistols.” So Storm Guardians from the codex?

    • Spacefrisian

Ah the unit hardly anyone uses.

      • In the old days. Black Guardians had stats in between normal Guardians and Aspect Warriors to reflect their longer training. I would expect the same when the new ones return.

        • Djbz

(Points out that the statline for guardians and aspect warriors is now identical apart from the armour save)

        • Slaanesh Devotee

Black Guardians were specifically from Ulthwe, weren’t they?

Has Ulthwe even been mentioned? Has the term Black Guardians been mentioned?

Or did you say they’re back literally just because you saw storm guardians painted black (the new Ynnari colour scheme)?

          • BaronSnakPak

The ones in the pic look exactly like Ulthwe. It looks like the Ynnari color scheme is khorne red and black.

          • Slaanesh Devotee

Hm, yeah I just read that at Lady Atia’s site.

      • Red_Five_Standing_By

No one uses them because a) assault is rough in this edition and b) you have to buy a guardian box and 2 upgrade sets from GW’s store to get a full squad of Storm Guardians.

        • Da Masta Cheef

Or get lucky on ebay-I found a fantastically painted and converted squad (i.e.: no failcast conversion bitz) of 14 Saim-Hann Storm Guardians for only $14 back in December!

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

            Wow! What a steal!

        • And because they suck 😉

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

They aren’t that bad… They just aren’t super mega ultimate chocolaty good like many of the other nits in the codex.

if Eldar had an assault vehicle, they would see more play.

    • Deacon Ix
  • John Bower

“Black Guardians are back. They carry close combat weapons and shuriken pistols.
They were assault versions of Guardians”

Erm they never went away, they’re still there but called Storm Guardians now.

    • Agent OfBolas

Black Guarians had WS/BS4, as they were hardened in battle elite of Guardian troops.

      • John Bower

And? Guardians are all WS/BS4 now anyway.

        • JD Robertson

Yes, the original Black Guardians were not storm guardians, they were a more elite version of regular/storm guardians specific to the Ulthwe craftworld. Obviously their specific boost would need to change for this edition, but I hope it’s more than “can mix storm and standard guardians in one unit” which is what appears to be happening in the picture.

Can they take storm guardian special weapons? That might actually be useful. No one ever took storm guardians for their CCWs.

          • Neil Carleton

Maybe some webway portal deep striking shenanigans?

        • Agent OfBolas

I’m just saying Black Guardians were mean, they were tough fighters. I’m not going to enter a conversation about how insane and unfluffy current Eldar Codex is.

          • John Bower

Aren’t you forgetting something? It’s GW’s fluff, they can do what they like with it. Whether you like it is irrelevent, they are playing to the tournament crowd very much so now. We narrative players have our own battles but we’re the 2nd class citizens to GW these days.

  • Agent OfBolas

If I can be honest, this sounds awesome 🙂

  • Karru

I do admit that the fact that this is not a continuation of the Fall of Cadia story and instead is its own thing gives me some hope for the future. There is a slight sliver of hope that Orks and Tyranids get their own Campaign books during this event.

    • TheWanderingJewels

      unless the NID’s get a massive rebuild….meh

      • Karru

These books won’t bring either army out from dirt, but the new models might be amazing. ‘Nids could get something that is basically the Doom of Malantai, Death Leaper and maybe the Parasite guy from the previous book.

        • Reven

The Swarmlord redone the size of an Imperial Knight do to all of the Wraith Knights, Imp Knights, and Riptides running around 😀

    • Nids will probably get a continuation from Shield of Baal. They got two campaign books there already, along with Necrons.

  • Old zogwort

This storyline even makes the strange blue magic effect around the avatar model look cool : )

  • bfmusashi

I thought the dark eldar were coming back from the dead all the time. Wasn’t that a side business for the homoculi?

    • Emperor’s Champion

hmm, possibly, though the haemonculi will rarely operate on a dark eldar that has been dead for more than a day. Maybe the Eldar heart simply slows down and take a longer amount of time to start deteriorating no matter if they are conscious or not.
And as sick as they are, if they cannot regain consciousness they’ll try as much as they can to make them feel and fuel the pain. That’s how I always thought of it since they don’t use spirit stones.

      • Thomas Gardiner

In the novels, they bring back an Archon who’s been dead for thousands of years.

      • shawnlowrey

They can regrow from almost nothing. In the Path of the Archon they bring a guy back that has been dead for thousands of years. One of the reasons that Homonculi hate this new faction is because it means that they aren’t needed anymore.

    • Ak318

Yes and as said in the warhammer live a second force lead by Homonculi coven will be trying to wipe this new group out.

      • bfmusashi

  • AnomanderRake

Is anyone else annoyed that Black Guardians are coming back without an update to the chunky 3e-vintage Guardian models?

  • Alvin Adorno

The avatar of ynaeed has got to be the most hideous model gw has done ever.

  • Sean Bishell

so i wonder how many Eldar heroes will die in this book?

  • Ben Martin

    A new race?
